Jama Sharp Promoted to Assistant Coach

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson women's basketball head coach Lynn Bria announced Tuesday that Jama Sharp has been promoted to Assistant Coach.

Sharp, a 2015 Stetson graduate, recently completed her first season back with the program as Director of Basketball Operations. Bria says Sharp is more than ready to move into a full-time coaching role.

"Obviously, Jama is a Hatter, and she knows our system," Bria said.  "There is a lot to say about having someone on your staff like her, and like Noc, that went to Stetson.  She really understands the academic demands because she went through it.  She played here for four years, was an incredible player, arguably one of the best point guards we have ever had, and she loves Stetson.

"What I also think has been good for Jama is that she has worked under other coaches," Bria added. "She worked for Amanda Butler at Florida and for Karen Aston at Texas, and she learned a lot from two very good coaches that really know the game. So she also brings something new to us and has some good experience in other areas that are much needed.  I am really excited about her."

Sharp scored over 1000 points and won over 100 games during her illustrious four-year career with the Hatters.  She earned first team all-conference honors in 2014 and 2015 and was selected as one of 30 Senior CLASS Award candidates.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to be a part of this great program," Sharp said.  "Stetson has always been a special place for me, and to have my hard work pay off and be able to coach under Coach Bria and alongside Noc is a dream come true. I cannot wait to see what the season has in store."

Sharp and Shanasa (Noc) Sanders were teammates during Stetson's ASUN Championship season in 2012-13.  Sharp then helped lead the Hatters to a school-record 27-win season in 2013-14.

In addition to her all-conference awards, Sharp was selected to the ASUN All-Academic team, the ASUN all-tournament team, and the ASUN Winners for Life team.  She was named ASUN Player of the Week twice, an ASUN Conference Scholar three times, and landed a spot on the ASUN Honor Roll all four seasons. In addition, Sharp was voted Stetson Athletics' Female Athlete of the Year in 2015.

A native of Mooresville, Ind., Sharp earned her Bachelor's Degree in Sport Business in 2015.  She rejoined the Hatters in 2019 after stints on the women's basketball staffs at Florida, Texas, and Virginia.
