We know you're trusting us with information about children. Here's exactly what we do and don't do with your data — in plain English.
What we store
When you add a child profile, we store:
- Their first name
- Their birthday
- Your relationship to them (e.g., niece, godchild)
- Interest tags you add (e.g., "Gaming", "Art")
- Any notes you write
We also store your email address and a securely hashed version of your password. That's it.
How we protect it
All personal child profile data — names, relationships, and notes — is encrypted at rest using application-level encryption. Even if someone gained access to our database, they'd see encrypted text, not readable data.
We use PostHog, a privacy-focused product analytics tool, to understand how Birthdaze is used. We run it in strict mode: no cookies, no session recordings, no click autocapture, and no cross-site tracking. Child names, birthdays, and email addresses are never sent to analytics — only your anonymous account ID and non-identifying events (like adding a child profile or saving a gift idea).
What we never store
When you use the gift finder, we send an anonymized request to an AI service — age, interests, and budget only. No names, no birthdays, and nothing that could identify a specific child is ever sent to the AI. We don't log these requests beyond the current session.
Affiliate links
Birthdaze includes affiliate links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, which helps keep the app free. Tapping an affiliate link sends you to Amazon, where Amazon's own privacy policy applies. Birthdaze does not share your account information with Amazon — they only see that someone clicked through from our site.
Deleting your data
You're always in control. You can delete any individual child's profile instantly from their profile page — it removes everything associated with them immediately.
You can also delete your entire account from your account settings. We'll send you a confirmation email, and all of your data — every child profile, every tag, every note — will be permanently deleted within 24 hours. We don't keep backups of deleted accounts.
Children's data
Birthdaze is designed for adults to keep track of birthdays for children in their lives. The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Information about a child stored in the app is added by the adult account holder.
