Jada included another consultant, Amadoma Bediako, near the end of the class and it was awesome. I like that she did a true/false quiz which broke down everything even more. I also liked that she mentioned the stats when it comes to black women breastfeeding and that she talked about reasons for the disparity. Great class and a must if you're a doula or on your way towards one.

The published Regulations for NYS Perinatal Care and Midwifery Birth Centers DO NOT assure that NY families will have access to high-quality, safe midwifery care in all healthcare settings, from homes, to midwifery birth centers. They are NOT aligned with the law signed by Governor Hochul in January 2022 (S.1414AM/A.259) to streamline the Licensure Process for Accredited Midwifery Birth Centers.
If not revised, the regulations will continue to make it nearly impossible to establish midwifery birth centers in NYS. The published regulations DO NOT support integration of midwives into the NYS health care system.
New York ranks behind 14 other states in its maternal mortality rate, and Black birthing people are five times more likely to die of a pregnancy-related cause than their white counterparts. NYS Maternal Mortality Review found that 78% of pregnancy related deaths were preventable. Midwives are a key strategy to reduce the unacceptable maternal mortality rate in NYS.
