spam (sorda Lex-y)

Today I had to write a paper involving original Greek Myth, meaning create my own God/Goddess, what abilities they have, how they affect the world and mortals, etc. etc.. Um, somehow, I made it Lex-centric. Except, this God isn't bald. Heh. Kinda had no choice on that. Um, warning: This was written in ten minutes, ergo, it sucks. Major.

Myth of Lexii, God of the Mountains

In a cluster of mountains not far from Mt. Olympus, an ever-present veil of ominous, purple thunderclouds covered the Lexian Mountains. Few mortals ever dared set foot into these mountains, for they feared the god Lexii that lived there, flanked by mountainous hills and peaks, and the grass was bruised violet while the trees were sparse, in the absence of sunshine. It was said that Lexii had been one of the many half-mortal, half-god children born from Zeus and one of his mortal lovers, Lorelei.

This mortal Lorelei lived in the Razai Mountains, what would later become known as the Lexian Mountains. One day, Lorelei had been out picking wild berries, deep within the heart of the mountains, when a thunderbolt from near by Olympus struck the ground next to her. It was possibly a fight amongst the Gods, and Zeus had unintentionally flung the thunderbolt too far and too carelessly. Zeus then rushed down to see if he had caused any major damage, and he found Lorelei unconscious near the pile of her dropped ripe berries. When Zeus knelt to wake her, her beauty suddenly entranced him, and so after she had awoken, he took her to bed. After which, six months later, Lorelei began to feel an aching pain in her belly, and finally one night, she bore a child. It was, undoubtedly, Zeus’ son, and Lorelei named him Lexii.

The ever-jealous Hera found out about Lexii and Lorelei, and decided revenge was to be had. So, one day, Hera sent a serpent down to the mountains, and she ordered the serpent to knock down giant boulders until Lorelei’s house was covered with them. Thus it was done, and the helpless Lorelei was crushed beneath a pile of rocks. Lexii, however, was safe inside his crib, and so he escaped unharmed.

It is said that Lexii grew up on his own in the wild, and that wolves occasionally stopped by to bring him food so he didn’t go hungry. When Lexii reached adulthood, he had not yet stepped out of the mountains that were his home. And there he remained for most of his life. Mortals, however, have been said to see strange things up in the Lexian Mountains. By adulthood, Lexii was already the self-proclaimed god of the mountains.

Mortals said they saw wolves gathered in great packs, and in the middle of these packs under the glorious and haunting moonlight, there was the silhouette of a valiant male figure with lustrous dark hair that fell like a mane down his back.

Other mortals who had the chance to see Lexii only saw him at night, and while they picked their way through the mountain tops, they often saw Lexii with his dark mane and piercing blue eyes, like glowing lights in the dark. He was said to be well over six feet tall, and his face was so feral with such sharp yet oddly beautiful bone structure that those who caught a real glimpse of his face would run off screaming in terror.

It was also said that people have seen Lexii move whole mountains, and while not many dared venture into the Lexian Mountains, there has been speculation that the mountaintops have been moved or altered in some way. This was another example of Lexii’s power, along with his ability to communicate with wild animals, learned through his many years of isolation in the wild.

And so, in the Lexian Mountains, deep in the heart of nature, Lexii lived in self-exile while the Gods on the neighboring Mt. Olympus paid him no attention. He eventually diminished in the hearts of his believers. It was said that he crushed himself with boulders, finally not able to survive with the loss of his mother anymore, and later rejoined her in the afterlife.
