{"id":2030,"date":"2024-01-23T19:19:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T19:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/?page_id=2030"},"modified":"2025-06-04T21:56:23","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T21:56:23","slug":"student-programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/student-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The American Association of Biological Anthropologists sponsors the following awards and opportunities for its student members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Grants and Awards<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/about\/william-s-pollitzer-student-travel-award\/\">Pollitzer Student Travel Awards<\/a>\u00a0are designed to help student members defray the costs of attending the AABA meetings. \u00a0You do not need to be presenting at the meeting. Entries for awards for the 2026 annual meeting are due on December 5, 2025. An essay prompt and further instructions will be provided shortly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/about\/student-presentation-awards\/\">Student Presentation Awards.<\/a>&nbsp;The AABA awards seven prizes to outstanding student poster and podium presentations at the annual meeting. The first author of the presentation must be the student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Opportunities<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/student-programs\/student-liaison-to-the-executive-committee\/\">Student Liaison to the Executive Committee<\/a>&nbsp;is tasked with increasing student participation, co-chairing the ad hoc student committee, bringing to the Executive committee issues of interest and concern to the student members and assisting the Career Development Committee and the Auction Committee in planning and implementation. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/about\/diversity\/cod-ideas-increasing-diversity-in-evolutionary-anthropological-sciences\/\">Committee on Diversity IDEAS (Increasing Diversity in Evolutionary Anthropological Sciences) Program<\/a>&nbsp;includes a day-long science and mentoring workshop for undergraduate and graduate students at the AABA meetings, networking events throughout the meeting, and a virtual mentoring network throughout the year. IDEAS Student Scholars receive travel funding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/about\/diversity\/cod-undergraduate-research-symposium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Committee on Diversity Undergraduate Research Symposium<\/a>&nbsp;provides the opportunity for undergraduate students to present their research in a poster symposium during the annual meeting and to graduate students to serve as reviewers and mentors for the symposium. &nbsp;A limited number of travel awards are made based on the application materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Involvement<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/about\/student-involvement\/\">Ad hoc Student Committee<\/a>&nbsp;provides the opportunity for students to become involved&nbsp;in the AABA through planning &nbsp;student-focused events at the annual meeting, and acting as a conduit for information about student concerns to the AAPA Executive Committee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"7305\" href=\"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/volunteer\/\">Volunteering<\/a>. There are many &nbsp;ways for students to become involved in the AABA and in helping with the annual meetings.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bioanth.org\/annual-meeting-archive\/86th-annual-meeting-new-orleans-louisiana\/call-for-education-and-committee-on-diversity-workshops-and-symposia\/education-committee-teacher-training-workshop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Education Committee Classroom Visits and Teacher Training Workshop<\/a>&nbsp;volunteers provide opportunity and experience in educational outreach.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American Association of Biological Anthropologists sponsors the following awards and opportunities for its student members.
