After wrapping up the final week of non-conference play, three student-athletes collected weekly honors in Texas forward Trinity Byars (offensive and freshman), Texas Tech's Hannah Anderson (defensive) and Oklahoma State's Evie Vitali (goalkeeper).
Byars picked up two awards for the Longhorns, including UT's third straight Freshman of the Week honor, after posting three goals and an assist last week. The rookie forward tallied a brace against a tough Samford team, including the golden goal in Texas' 2-1 double-overtime victory. Byars followed that up on Sunday against SIUE with an assist on Lexi Missimo's game-winner before driving in an insurance goal for the 3-0 win. The Richardson, Texas native recorded nine total shots and all three of her shots on goal went in for a score. Byars now has four goals and five assists for 13 points during the 2021 season.
Anderson was part of the backline that held Eastern Washington to just one shot, which was on goal, in Texas Tech's 3-0 win last Sunday. The Red Raiders have held eight of their 10 non-conference opponents to single digit shots and have held all of their non-league opponents to single digit shots on goal, with the most allowed being six to Arizona.
Vitali posted a pair of shutouts along with three saves for the Cowgirls last week. With her fifth shoutout of the season in the 1-0 win over Weber State on Sunday, Vitali is now tied for the Big 12 lead in shutouts. Five shutouts is also the most completed by an OSU freshman since AD Franch in 2009.
