Brooks' Story

When Brooks was born, he failed his newborn hearing screening. At first, it was thought to be mucus — nothing to worry about. But after multiple screenings and a referral audiology appointment at three weeks, we learned Brooks has profound bilateral hearing loss. At first, we were heartbroken, scared, and overwhelmed.

Little did we know, this journey would become the most meaningful, joyful, and inspiring part of our lives. From his first hearing aids at eight weeks to documenting his milestones on TikTok (@morgandeakinx), Brooks has reminded us daily that life can be even more beautiful than we could ever have imagined.

Why We Exist

Brooks’ early days were filled with uncertainty. There was no family history of deafness, no previous experience to guide us — just fear, worry, and helplessness. But every challenge brought clarity, understanding, and purpose.

Brooks’ personality shines bright: curious, silly, loud, and infectious. He is hitting every milestone and inspiring us every day. Ophthalmology and MRI appointments confirmed that everything was normal. While we await the cochlear implant route, Brooks is thriving, showing that hearing loss is not a limitation.

Our journey isn’t just about Brooks. It’s about creating a community, providing support, and giving other families the financial resources and reassurance they need. B Heard Charity exists so no family feels alone navigating hearing loss.

How we can help

B Heard Charity provides financial grants to deaf children and primary caregivers of deaf children, helping families access communication support which includes:

Grant limits depend on available funds, as all support is raised through fundraising. We are a non-profit organisation, and every pound donated goes directly to supporting children and families.

Who are Mummy and Daddy?

I’m Morgan, mummy to Brooks, neonatal nurse, aesthetics practitioner, and founder of B Heard Charity. My career has spanned years in healthcare and childcare, but nothing prepared me for parenting a child with profound hearing loss. The early days were full of raw emotions — fear, grief, confusion — but also hope and the discovery of a beautiful supportive deaf community.

Starting this charity during maternity leave gave me a fire in my stomach — a mission to raise deaf awareness, support families like ours, and show that every emotion along the way is valid.

I’m Leon, Brooks’ dad and professional footballer with Falkirk. My goals are aligned with Morgan’s: to raise awareness, share our story, and help deaf children feel included in every part of life — including football. We want to normalize deafness and make opportunities accessible to all.
