Red Sox sign Patrick Halligan to minor-league deal, add Triple-A depth
The 6-foot-6 reliever joins Boston’s growing group of big-bodied arms and will provide organizational depth at Triple-A Worcester.

The Red Sox continue to stockpile pitching depth.
Boston has signed free-agent right-handed pitcher Patrick Halligan to a minor-league deal, according to SoxProspects’ Andrew Parker. The deal does not include an invite to major league spring training.
Halligan was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 13th round (379th overall) of the 2021 MLB Draftout of Pensacola State College (FL) and has worked primarily in a relief role throughout his professional career.
A 6-foot-6, 230-pound right-hander, Halligan fits the profile of the big-bodied power arms the Red Sox front office has increasingly targeted. Newly acquired left-hander Jake Bennett (6-foot-6), who came over from Washington in the Luis Perales trade, Rule 5 pick Ryan Watson (6-foot-5), and left-hander Tyler Samaniego (6-foot-4), acquired in the Johan Oviedo deal, are recent examples of Boston prioritizing size and physicality on the mound.
While walks have been an issue at times for Halligan, he’ll now work within the Red Sox’ pitching infrastructure as organizational depth at Triple-A Worcester, where the club has emphasized mechanical consistency, pitch-shape optimization, and strike-throwing efficiency across its upper-minors arms.
In 2025, Halligan appeared in 40 games, posting a 4.40 ERA across 57.1 innings with 66 strikeouts, a 1.43 WHIP, and one save. For his minor-league career, the right-hander owns a 4.34 ERA in 146 appearances (16 starts), striking out 282 batters over 265.1 innings with a 1.39 WHIP.
