Independent Variable is proud to partner with<\/span> EMIR Healing Center<\/span><\/a> to launch their new Healing Resources Dashboard, a powerful digital tool that combines Philadelphia gun violence data with community healing resources. Built in Microsoft Power BI, this interactive data dashboard empowers residents, advocates, and policymakers to: 1) better understand the impact of violence, and 2) connect those who have been impacted with services that promote healing. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A DIFFERENT WAY TO MODEL PUBLIC GUN VIOLENCE DATA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gun violence is one of the most urgent public health crises facing Philadelphia. Too often, however, our attempts at analyzing gun violence data do not provide an actionable picture to those working towards on the ground solutions. This is because incidents of gun violence have causes and effects tied not only to their direct victims, but also to families, neighborhoods, and the larger city infrastructure. This means that dashboards built to inform community violence intervention (CVI) strategies must move beyond displaying dot-on-map shooting incident data to consider numerous factors related to the deployment of community<\/em> resources<\/em>, including: <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Factors to consider<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. The areas of a city that experience the most trauma<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Where resources <\/span>currently<\/span><\/i> exist to address this trauma<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. How healing resources <\/span>could be <\/span><\/i>most appropriately allocated <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    These factors were the inspiration for the <\/span>Healing Resources Dashboard<\/span><\/a>. This project takes a resource guide developed by EMIR Healing Center and creates an interactive dashboard tool to help facilitate the delivery of community violence intervention strategies and trauma-informed care. It is our hope that this tool can be utilized in the effort to build safer, healthier communities across the City of Philadelphia. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    <\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The Trauma Map provides an interactive visualization of gun violence incidents in Philadelphia since 2022. Users can explore the data by:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
