I've Been Thrown ...

... out of a fic ... by one small, unassuming letter.

I was really into this fic. There was a conversation going on. It was a good conversation. Then one person said something pretty shocking. Whereby the other person should have, y'know, gaped. Instead ...

They gapped.

The needle totally ripped across the album.

My mind filled with scary images.

And I had to come share it with ya'll.

:^j

Getting Organised is My New Shiny!

I have a confession. I am almost a hoarder. Almost. This means that my house is not as neat as I'd like for it to be. But recently, I found something called a "Your Way Cube", and it has already started changing my world (!!!). I found this wondrous beastie when I want to a Thirty-One party at a friend's house. If you've never heard of Thirty-One, it's a direct sales company that's all about awesome bags and totes and getting organized .. and getting lots of free goodies (!!!). I was so impressed that I signed up as a consultant the next day. LOL!

Which leads me to why I'm typing this. I have an online party set up (online!yay) and would love it if any of y'all wanted to wander over to check it out. My website is www.neatnow.net. One you're there, just click the "My Parties" link. Then you'll click a couple of "Buy Now" links that do NOT force you to buy anything .. they just take you to the catalogue so you can see all the cool stuff. So please .. come see!

Is It Just Me? (An Avengers Ponderment)

Has no one else thought that the most significant thing about Phil's call to Natasha was that he called her 'Tasha .. instead of, say, Natasha or Agent Romanoff or something?

Some folks make a big deal out of only Clint using derivatives of her name. But hello? Phil.

(Dammit, now I'm getting wibbly just from typing his name.) (I do believe in Life Model Decoys. I do believe in Life Model Decoys. I do, I do, I do believe ...)

Okay. That's all I have time for right now (though I have tons and tons of Avengers meta. Oy!).

Oh, wait. One last. Is it true what I'm hearing .. some not good LJ rumours? That they're going to take my "lifetime membership" money and run? That people are going to leave in droves? I've heard these types of things before, but this sounded like it might be more serious(?). Opinions?

Rest In Peace, Sweet Cat

I had to make the final decision about my dad's outside cat today. It was sad, but I know it was the right decision. He had a long and wonderful life, and I just would not put him through a lot of tests or treatment that would have upset him terribly .. especially not fair when he was suddenly feeling so bad. The vet agreed that it was probably renal failure and was very kind about the whole thing.

So rest in peace, sweet Sam.

(sigh)

Out Of The Blue

On stage, sixteen showgirls kicked high-heels and forever legs over his head (he, of course, was on the front row). While this was certainly worth the price of admission, the pre-show introductions had set that part of his skull that had once been crazed like a shattered eggshell to aching. If they'd all had names like "Charm," he surely wouldn't have been bothered. And admittedly, "Bottom," "Up," and "Glue On" amused him. But the rest seemed terribly odd, with the one that was just letters of the alphabet being a stand-out.

Add to that, twelve of the girls seemed to fade in and out of view as they danced across the stage, while the other four appeared to move through each other. At times he thought he could see another dancer in the background, but it could have been a trick of the lights, for she never joined the main chorus line. (And it wasn't as though he'd never seen this kind of thing before, just never on stage.)

Off stage, he could hear a familiar feminine voice softly chanting equally headache-inducing words, as though coaching the dancers before him. What sounded like "super-cemetery" caused them to break into groups of three, with the odd one spinning among them. Another he couldn't quite make out brought about a brief but impressive flurry of activity. "Concern" made him frown. "Gigelectrovites" reminded him, bizarrely, of toothpaste. And "big bosoms" … well.

"Shhh," the voice murmured, this time from directly behind him. "Sorry." Familiar arms stole around his chest, and as the stage lights and his headache both began to dim, the last thing he heard was "… love you, Jack."

(This ficlet brought to you by the words "gluon," "supersymmetry," "CERN," "gigaelectronvolts," and "Higgs boson" .. and, of course, the number 16-or-17 .. as read on my iPad.)

(I sure wish a link to LJ was built-in like the links to FB and Twitter. Annoying, that oversight.)

ETA: "Fixed" my icon.</small>

Oh! Like a buying club, but lots of organic items, no crowds, and no driving (!). If you like the idea, go snag a free account before their big launch on October 9. There's a webinar/slideshow thing to get through before the free account form appears, but you can turn the sound off and let it run, if you don't want to hear it.

Yes, I'm still alive ... just swamped with RL. But I'm trying to get back over here.

I've (hang on) cancelled my TV and have gone totally online for viewing. So any recs for new shows to (try to find and) watch would be much appreciated. I'm having a ball watching old shows, movies, and some current shows (albeit a little later than the nights they air), but I don't really know what's new. So please let me know what your favorites are so I can check them out.

Also, any recs for watching TV online? I tend to live on Sidereel.com .. haven't forked out cash for anything other than Netflix. Let me know if you know of something better than Sidereel or if you think one of the charge sites is the cat's meow.

Today, I'm off to go visit "my" baby squirrel today. Found him on the ground in the forest (I was hiking out at the state park that's down the road from me) covered by bees (we think they were attracted by the smell of milk), so there was no way I could walk away without saving him. The ranger and I spent 30 minutes in the office learning how to care for him since the Wildlife Rehabilitator they normally use was unavailable. He was maybe two weeks old when I found him, and (after living on the internet to learn how best to feed one that tiny - they can aspirate very easily) I fed him (very carefully) every two hours for five days until I could find another rehabber who could take him. So now I'm a "sub-licensee", which means I can legally have rescued wildlife for a short time before having to turn it over to a licensed rehabber. I'll be attending my first requisite course later this month. How cool is that?!

And yeah, I'll post some pix of "Valentino" one of these days, because he's way too adorable not to share. As for his name? Well, he's the squirrel who fell to Earth ... Michael Valentine Smith ... hence, Valentino. :^D

Wow, Imagination ... That? Was WEIRD!

Okay, that was one of the weirdest dreams ever. I'm trying to watch a Shuttle launch. I'm in some big building and going from room to room (because I have to) and keep catching glimpses. Finally, I'm in some big room with some giant TV screen, and I remember something about some other gal watching .. she may have been a NASA employee or something (may have worked for the group I used to work for, because there was some kind of connection between us). And etc, as dreams are wont to do.

Anyway, the final countdown starts, all the TVs are showing it, everyone's holding their breaths, all the sparks are spewing around the Shuttle like normal (first clue this dream was not going to give me a simple Shuttle launch) .. and then the whole thing - Shuttle, main tank, solids, and all (though not the launch tower) s-l-o-w-l-y topples over. (I remember saying, as I watched in horrid fascination, "That's not good." Nice understatement, self.) Kinda like it was planned. And blump, hits the ground. No explosion. Nothing broken. Just entire launch package lying on the ground, Shuttle on its back.

And then, as dreams are wont to do, I was there. Semi-close (as in way too close, actually, but above, with a zoomable view), watching all the people on the ground - yes, people on the ground right there at the launch pad and now, y'know, next to the Shuttle just lying there - break out of their paralysis and start running (I remember thinking how odd it was that some people did a funny little start-stop thing, like they didn't know what to do).

And then .. my dream-view zooms in as this man runs up to the nose of the Shuttle, pushes at the giant ladder (think old-style airline de-planing ladder) that's covering it (the nose), reaches under and yanks the nose of the Shuttle out from under the ladder. Oh yes, he moves the Shuttle by himself (but only the tip, because it was made of ... cloth). And shortly after, he gets the nosecone hatch (yes, you heard me right) open, and all of the astronauts, dressed in old-style white moon suits, crawl out and run to safety. And then I woke up.

Man, oh man.

I should totally make a movie for SyFy(Lys). David Hewitt, are you reading this? I'll let you direct it. Though sorry, no snakes involved.

I wonder what's in store for the rest of my day.

Covert Affairs

So ... I'm watching. And is it me, or is Annie extremely reminiscent of Syd? And haven't there been a whole lot of nods to Alias?

Oh, and wait! Are there some nods in there to Scarecrow & Mrs. King, too? I mean ... Auggie?! [has a great big grin on my face] Whee!

So, while it doesn't make me all explodey-happy like White Collar (oh, how much do I love that show!), I like it.

My Thoughts On SGU

FYI, I wrote this post somewhere around midnight last night, because that's what time I watched the DVR'd ep. And then? I fell asleep on the couch before I posted it. And when I woke up and stumbled back to my bedroom? I just closed the top on my laptop. So here 'tis ...

I almost only watch because I don't want to miss any S/J moments. (And Danny, of course.)

[momentary post hijacking]

OM! Jack called her "Sam" tonight!

People! He. Called. Her. SAM.

In. Front. Of. Everyone!

As in, in front of everyone in Homeworld Security!

As in, in front of military peeps in two galaxies!

OMG!Squeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

[/momentary post hijacking]

Okay. I have to write what I originally started this post for. [breathes]

Because while all this stuff is going on onboard Destilactica, S/J is going on on Earth. And we get snippets of it!

And the only thing that stood out for me in this ep? (Well, okay, the whole killing-Telford-to-break-the-mind-control bit was kinda cool. But then, that was Jack's idea.) The only thing that grabbed my emotion and held on throughout the entire show? Was that Sam is going to be devastated over having to leave those 302 pilots. I nearly cried when she gave that order.

She is so going to need Jack when she gets home.

That is my "sad commentary". That I only watch this show to see the once-in-a-blue appearances of my characters.

My ship.

My ship that is totally real because Jack called her Sam in front of e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e!

And hey, one of the shots of the Homeworld Security command room? That was totally Walter typing (even if we could only see arms and hands). :^D

My squeee knows no bounds tonight. (Or this morning, as the case may be.)

I won't need to count sheep to fall asleep tonight. I'll be busy counting plot!bunnies.

ETA: Warning: [coughs]Total fangirling above.[coughs] Heh.

ETA2: Fixed my icon. Yeesh!

It's been fun skimming over old entries, not remembering half of what I wrote about, etc. And then it hit me. I'm digging back into my world when my mom had just passed, my dad and my boy dog were still alive, and Hailey wasn't even a twinkle. It's a bit sobering.

I think I need some good fic to cheer myself up.

On The Other Hand ... Intense Glee

What I did catch, that makes me inordinately gleeful, was the two-for-the-price-of-one bit in Monaco. When Tony went around the corner table and Pepper stopped to exchange pleasantries with "Mr. Musk".

Part the first: Tesla Motors personified!

Part the second: Tony saw the exchange and immediately inserted himself between them.

Green's not your best color either, Tones. ;^)

Truly one of my favorite moments in the film.

Discombobulation

Why is it that I have to read some things in fic before I get what they were (or might have been) going for in the movie? I'm feeling like an AU Sam Carter where she ponders a pretty rack of crystals ... until an airman walks up, pulls one out, and the ship leaps out of danger.

Five times I've seen IM2 so far. Five. Times. (So far -- I'm about to stop counting.) And it took a <strike>two-by-four</strike> piece of fic to make me understand what Tony meant when he told Pepper green was not her color. I, literally, kept alternately staring at her dress and trying to remember what she'd been wearing previously.

OFFS! I am not this dense!

I'm totally blaming menopause for this. They say it causes some women to forget whether a red light means stop or go. Me? It makes me movie stupid.

Now, the same author also proposes that Tony's "new-found" quirk about people not handing him things is due to his impending doom. I forgive myself for not picking up on that idea, as I was totally into the idea that, yes, Tony does have a "genius oddity". In my head, Tony is a modern-day Nikola Tesla, and heaven knows Tesla had a <strike>boatload of</strike> quirk. I think I'll keep that idea, thank you very much.

I'm not admitting to not fully catching the whole wear a mask, and yes, I donated my art to charity because I'm dying thing. Because then I would feel even denser. (sigh)

I'm thinking it's time for me to go see the movie again.
