Met een enkel briefje op Whitehouse.gov lig je uit hun cloud. Via minstens drie wetsinstrumenten gunt Amerika zich toegang tot onze data en communicatie, ook al staan de Microsoftservers in Europa. Dit is allemaal heel vervelend, en er is ook weinig aan te doen. Voor de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen kon ik niet geloofwaardig weer NerdVote doen omdat ik zelf als lijstduwer op de lijst sta voor Progressief Pijnacker-Nootdorp (de lokale GroenLinks-PvdA combinatie). Desondanks zijn er wel kandidaten in het land waar ik erg enthousiast van word! Op 19 maart is er een commissievergadering in de Tweede Kamer hierover, en ik hoop van harte dat men bij zinnen komt. In de discussie over de btw-situatie de afgelopen jaren ging het eigenlijk alleen over dat de belastingdienst Amerikaanse software ging gebruiken. This open (downloadable) database contains details of GC skew, plus a dozen other skews, for all 28,000 bacterial chromosomes available through the NCBI genomes service. The database is created using the open source Antonie DNA software. There is also an online viewer that includes graphs. I’m a big fan of privacy, but I’m also a big fan of security and preventing people from getting hacked. If you are hacked you have no privacy either. Per-customer/subscriber traces are extremely useful for researching the security of networks. And of course the thing is, if you are doing something that has been done many times before, you might be able to provide a detailed estimate. People that build houses work like this, but they still often get it wrong.
