This morning I decided to walk up the street to get a few pics of the work projects going on in the neighborhood. My brother and mother were returning from their customary early morning hike/walk/run up the great hill and back and called to me.
Apparently a little black cat had taken up residence in their backyard and Mom wanted to know what to do with it. My brother ran up to my house to get some kibble while I looked for the cat in the back yard.
There she was curled up under a rose bush. I crouched down and called to her. She immediately ran out and rubbed against me. When presented with a few kibble she hastily ate them. Mom said, “I am sorry to leave you with her but I have company coming.” “Oh, no problem Mom,” I said. “I”ll figure out something.”
Actually I didn’t know what to do either but “Dolly” (as Nikki dubbed her) followed me up the street to my house and had a good breakfast.

I decided to read and do some sketches outside but it was somewhat difficult with Dolly on my lap. Wherever I walked she followed. Then I went in for a few hours. When I came out—no Dolly. Hmmm. She was so very thin. I felt bad for her.
When Nikki came home we went outside to look for her. I called and called and then walked to the side gate, there she was. She trotted right into the back garden again for a 2 course dinner, rolled around on the patio and chased a stick in the grass.

After dinner Nikki went out to read on the porch. I peeked out the window and saw Dolly sitting on Nikki’s lap purring up a storm, rubbing her head on Nikki’s chin. We are going to try to find her owners but it is hard to locate the owner of “a black cat”!

There’s something about black cats that I’ve always liked!
She may be thin but looks in good condition, and obviously has been well treated by the way she behaves.
Talking about cats purring see my today’s post!
What will you do if you can’t trace her owner? xx

Flighty β I am surprised she is not more stand-offish. I am heading over to see your post in just a minute π As for what we will do if we cannot trace her owner I am not sure but I did hear Nikki tell her we would look after her. The other two cats are not fond of seeing a black cat in the yard. They glare at her through the window.
Ellen β she is very sweet tempered. I feel sorry for the family that lost her. Nikki couldnβt find her this morning but I am sure she will be back now that she has a source for food π

She’s a big girlie.
I’m not surprised she was comfortable enough with you two to sit on your laps and purr! π
If she has owners, I hope they find her soon. If not, then I am glad she found you and Nik, for as long as she needs your help.

Hi there, Roomie ~ Finally back on line with a new and improved modem. I realize that Dolly has gone now ~ did you find the owner or did it just toddle off? I’m sure your home is written up in “The Cat’s Best Bed and Breakfast” book, so no wonder she found you π

She’s beautiful. That glossy coat does not look like a suffering cat.
An affectionate stray can be such a mixed blessing. The fact that they can walk right in and give you unconditional trust and love off the bat is a welcome sparkle of joy, but the “Should I keep it or throw it back” dilemma can really hurt. It’s almost more welcome when they simply wander off.
My own yard seems to be a magnet (or at least a dumping ground) for people’s abandoned cats, so we’ve gotten our fair share and then some.

Hi Liv – I hope her owner found her but I would like to see her again.
Glo! – Nice to see you again. I am not online myself very often these days. You certainly gave me a chuckle on the “The Catβs Best Bed and Breakfast” comment.
MM – you have a good point about the wandering off. Her coat does look nice in the photos but it is thin in spots and she appears to have some skin problems. (Nikki was going to give her a bath!) The pads on her feet are quite rough so it seems she has been outside a long time.
