It's been far too long since I've seen an episode and oh how I missed it.

Of course the result is that I had a dream I was living back at my parents house in Vermont (that they no longer live in) and Amanda Tapping was our new neighbor.
‎"And that is why I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere." - Elie Wiesel accepting his Nobel Peace Prize in 1986.

When I was six or seven, my parents took my sister and I to see Sesame Street Live!. I don't recall at one point during this show this occurred, but I vividly recall the events. My mother spotted a guy pulling out a knife and holding it against his child's neck. She pointed it out to my dad and while he ran over to grab the guy, she went to find a police officer. The guy was arrested and I know my parents sat there with two very freaked out children while someone came for them. This whole time my sister (who was two or three) sat and watched the show. But I remember them jumping into action and it impacted my life more than one would think.

Because for me, not speaking up is not an option. I pester, I call the cops, I casually place myself between people arguing on the Metro, I've mastered the art of the glare and the "you've got to be kidding" stare. It's almost amusing how just staring at someone as they act like an asshole can stop them. But I am a coward. I've seen a knife pulled and you bet I ran the other way. I also called the cops, but I ran away. I admit if I thought my own personal physical safety was at risk, I would not stick around.

Yet I am heartsick and furious at two recent cases of people who did not speak up. The first occurred in DC when a woman was brutally murdered by her co-worker at a Lululemon Store. For those who have not heard about, a quick search should bring you the details, but in sum, for no discernible reason, one woman brutally tortured and killed her boss at the yoga store. She then roughed herself up and passed it off that they were attacked in a robbery, but the story fell apart rather quickly. During the trial two very disturbing facts emerged: the victim sustained over 350 wounds from five different instruments and it took her hours to die. And the most disturbing of all: Employees of the Apple Store next door heard this and did nothing. They listened at the walls as the victim cried for help and begged for her life and did nothing. They did not bang on the wall, they did not shot back, they did not call the cops.

How do you live with yourself after that? How do live with yourself in the moment? I call the cops if I notice a strange dude watching kids at the park and Enza starts barking at him - because if my dog doesn't like you, well then.

The second is the case of child rape and molestation at PSU and who knew what and when. There is universal outrage that so many people seem to have known something and did nothing beyond the legal limit. Yet that legal limit does not include calling the police after witnessing or hearing about the rape of a 10 year old boy. I cannot fathom this. I cannot fathom walking in on anything so horrific and not reacting, not screaming, not hitting, not crying, not wanting to murder with my bare hands. I cannot fathom not following up to ensure something - anything - was done to provide that child any modicum of comfort.

But we always protect those who throw balls around, don't we? We've all read the stories of golden boys who get away with raping college girls because they improve an defensive line or having a sliding fast ball. It always angers me, but this...how can anyone, anyone, even explain away the non action? It gladdens me that so many people are calling for their heads as the stories unfold.

Show Love

I wasn't expecting much from the slate of new shows. In fact, I still haven't gotten around to watching Ringer yet and just deleted the comedies off my DVR. I caught both the Playboy Club and Pan Am</a> and was bored. While I didn't find it offensive to women, I had to roll my eyes at the whole, "wasn't life so great when everything was black and white and everyone had their own special little corner" crap. However, after watching two episodes live (I never do that), I can say that I am head over heels for Revenge.

For starters, the acting is fantastic. I've never been impressed by Emily VanCamp but holy god is she good in this show. She goes from being nice, cute, young thing to "I will stab you with a pencil while I bring holy hell down upon you and not mess up my hair" in the blink of an eye. The moment those who done her wrong turn their backs, you can feel the hatred coming off of her in waves. But when confronted by things from her past that meant a great deal, she is in shock and befuddled and little innocence slips through. So good.

Madeline Snowe...wow. Just...wow. So evil. So confusing. So icy. So much love.

Nolan is an interesting character as well as I think he is probably the nicest of them all but will do whatever it takes to protect Emily/Amanda. There is so much more to him and I like that he seemed taken aback about why the boat was sold to him.

Josh is...bleh. But I love Sam.

Daniel is curious because you know he dies in the first 3 minutes of the pilot. You think that Emily/Amanda did it but maybe not and the development of the relationship is rather fascinating as you know it's doomed from the start.

The pace is quick, the plot moves along and twists upon itself and the characters are just awesome. Love, love, love.

So we bridge the gap from Summer Tv to Fall Tv and I must say, I really love Summer TV so much more than Fall. Here is what I watched and I plan on watching. I'm cutting the whole thing as am lazy.

However, most of what I think of the new season can be summed up here: What happened to all the women?

What I watched:

Rizzoli and Isles is just awesome. I love the strong women, I love the male characters, the stories are interesting, and it is all around awesome. The finale actually made me jump a couple of times and it was just flat out creepy. I do like how they aren't at all perfect and I find it to be the truest example of female friendship that I've seen in awhile.

Leverage is still shiny and happy, but the schemes were way out there this season. But I did love, love, *love* the Hardison/Parker stuff - er. Minus that horrid World War II episode in which the accents made me want to stab my ear drums.

White Collar is pretty. So very pretty.

Burn Notice - I no longer care.

Warehouse 13 is just a happy, go lucky show that can be silly and stupid and makes me smile. There isn't a lot to it and that is okay, although they did talk about torture in a way that was interesting and didn't really flinch from reality.

Eureka - I will miss the show but in a way, I think it is time to wrap it up. The reset worked for some but failed for others and I hate that Zoe is no longer on the scene. Or when she is, she is kind of not great.

Alphas - I kind of like this show. It is still finding its feet, but I adore the Bill and Gary show so very much.

Haven - Holy crap do I love this show. I love Audrey and Duke and Nate. I love that his dad had a cleaner and I love the twists and turns. It's just a thinky show and I *miss* those.

Necessary Roughness - Oh yeah. Love this show too. TK is hilarious. Dani is amusing and I am so so on the Nico/Dani train it isn't even funny. Her kids are kind of awful sometimes and I miss the best friend, but the rest is pretty fun to watch.

What I will be watching:

Community is a given. If you have watched this show yet, what the hell is wrong with you?

Big Bang Theory still makes me laugh out loud some time.

The Middle and Modern Family are pretty funny and good for wasting a bit of time.

Fringe - duh. It's one of the best tv shows on right now, hands down.

The Sing Off is awesome. Period.

I am curious about the Ringer and Revenge, and that is about it.

So what about you?

So I ordered the portable AC and A and I set it up today....

And it sucks. It is sitting on a chair and running for over two hours and nothing. Hasn't cooled a damn degree on the machine and the overall temp in the house has risen two degrees.

I am a bit pissed.

I will keep it for a few days as it is suppose to get hot on Wednesday through Friday, but then it goes back.

I am now looking at thermal curtains to help block sun/heat in the AM.

I swear there are days when I just get utterly and completely obsessed with something to the point it is the main topic of conversation with people and sucks up a great deal of "research" time at work.

Currently it is all about whether or not to buy a portable AC unit for my place. Every summer, there are at least two posts about how my damn AC unit failed due to the complex's cooling tower breaking etc. Last year, there were three weeks of unreliable use during the hottest summer on record.

Today it is suppose to be 100. You read that right. I'm pretty sure I will return home and find a very hot dog because this is just the type of weather that crashes the system. A neighbor has one of the portable AC units as window units are banned. She called it a god send as she too is on the top floor which can be tricky to keep cool on even normal days.

So after much research, I found the perfect one that is still not super cheap, but not $400 either. It weighs half of what others weigh and has the best reviews.

And yet, I still cannot pull the trigger on it. I have the webpage bookmarked, I've sent the link to friends, I have talked A's ear off about this, and a whole host of other things. I am going out of my mind and cannot make said mind up. A is beginning to think I am flat out nuts.

EDIT: Okay - did it.

Summer is finally here in DC. Ick. We had such a lovely spring (read rainy and cold - just how I like it) that the sudden heat and humidity that will be with us from here on out is making me super cranky.

However! Summer means some good movies, concerts, and summer TV. When did summer tv become the best TV?

There will be Covert Affairs, White Collar, Psych, Burn Notice, Memphis Beat, Rizzoli and Isis, Drop Dead Diva, Haven (WHY!!! aren't more people watching this??), Warehouse 13, SYTYCD, Eureka, curious about Alphas.

So so excited! What shows are you all looking forward to?

Now fingers crossed the heat isn't like last year, the tornadoes stop, and my ac doesn't kaput for three weeks straight.

I am actually not locking this as I'm curious what everyone will have to say.

Birth control options for women suck. They really do.

I was on the pill for years and it was a revelation when I went off of it. I lost weight, stopped having migraines, skin cleared up, anxiety lessened etc.

Now that I am in a serious relationship and exploring BC options, I am slightly bothered by the long lists of side effects/issues listed with each of them.

I am considering the IUD but have been told that it could be a problem as I've never had a kid.

I am really interested in what options other people have settled on. I suppose I could go back to the pill, but I really hate the idea of it.

I've allowed anonymous commenting as well.

Oh for fraking hell in a hand basket.

EDIT: So....it's a hoax. Here is where it's really embarrassing. Tracking legislation is my JOB. I have access to all the databases on this stuff and did I check it before I posted? No. Only after wards did I think, "I'd like to read that." So I skip over to Thomas to find the bill doesn't exist.

Mea cupola. Now I have to wonder: is it the recent actions of some Tea Parties that made me jump to conclusions or is it my preconceived notions that led to it? Or both?

But I feel awful for the Congresswoman who is now dealing with the phone calls.

Republican Congresswoman from Alabama introduces language to change the definition of Pi to just three. 3. What follows is a list of things that have brought me joy over the past few weeks.

* I just finished this really great book, Elizabeth's Women which focuses on the women in Elizabeth I's life. It looks at her family (mother, sister, step mothers), her ladies in waiting, her governesses, her rivals, her foes, etc and how they all shaped or where shaped by her. As most books focus on Dudley and Cecil, this perspective was really quite awesome and makes me twitch to write a thesis on that bright light of female empowerment that was her time period (not just her but all the other strong female leaders) and then the backlash against them.

* If you did not read the link, What the Stormtroopers Really Thought of Vader that annerbhp posted yesterday, go - go now. I'll wait.

* I also bring you the BBC parody of Downton Abbey for Red Nose Day. Hilarious. There is also a part two that is just as good.

* The Cherry Blossoms are in bloom and I hope to get a run in today for pictures. (I'm ignoring the inducing of my allergies and the overwhelming multitude of tourists.)

* I am utterly in love with Fringe and thrilled beyond words that Community was renewed.I've enjoyed Mr. Sunshine if only for the image of Alison Janney kicking Smurfette's ass.

* F1 starts next week as does baseball.

* I still have a job and slightly convinced my boss that I am capable of working from home. Oh! And friend of mine made me french toast cupcakes with maple frosting and bacon bits. HOLY CRAP GOOD!
