The Viola Saga cont...
So we had the concert tonite. And full orch rehearsals yesterday...
I'm still undecided. I've talked with the parentals and mum in particular thinks that if I'm going to actually take it up, then I shouldn't waste time with 2nd rate teachers, and go for the best I can get. This I agree with.
I just wish I knew whether I really wanted to play or not.
It's not that I don't like it, it's lots of fun to play...it's all "C-string, yay!" and it has a beefy sound down there...And the whole clef reading thing is virtually there. And I enjoy it.
I just don't know if I want it to be "what I do".
So I guess for the moment, I shall think about it some more, contemplate it all...And mourn the fact that I have to return the little 15 & 3/4" 18th Century, and the 16" Chinese handmade tomorrow to my previous violin teacher...and return the 16" Skylark to my school friend. -That- I am not so sorry about. Skylarks of any kind play like a block of plywood, ick :P But it was okay to learn the notes on...Needless to say, I didn't do the concert or the camp on it. I did it on the old, respectable looking 15 and 3/4".
But yeah, the concert went pretty well :) It wasn't perfect, but the standard of the orch was around 7th grade, so it went pretty well considering the music in some parts was a bit above the standard.
And me...well, the little violas love me, one of the co-leaders, let's call him Mr Little Viola, hugged me at the end cos I'd been such a great help. I guess he's not so little...He'd be 16 or so. But they valued my time in the tute the other day, and my help with keeping the section together, so I feel needed and valuable. Validated, ya know?
So I guess the verdict at the end of this part of the chapter is this:
1. Viola is pretty fun.
2. I shall think more on the subject, pros and cons, whilst I am away on holidays interstate, starting Monday.
3. I still love and adore the violin. I'm addicted to it's sweet upper register...and yearn to play it when I hear it.
I think that pretty much sums it up for now.
