Friday Five

Wow, been a while since I've done this!

1. What were your favorite childhood stories?
When I was sub-5, apparently there was this book about seahorses at the local library that I'd make mum borrow every single time we went. It was around 40 pages and I could recite all of it.
Wish I could do that now...
Other childhood stories were various Disney stories, Little Golden Books. Am proud to say that I wasn't a Babysitter's Club whore, nor a Saddleclub whore. Ick :P
Then, there was the whole sci-fi thing.

2. What books from your childhood would you like to share with [your] children?
Probably just the nice, escapism that is Disney and classic stories. And Roald Dahl's books. They're fucking funny on so many levels. Then, there's a whole lot of adult lit that I'd like them to read when they're older, but I'm sure that's another Friday Five.

3. Have you re-read any of those childhood stories and been surprised by anything?
Not particularly. Not that I've done a re-read lately...but I rewatched the Disney cartoon version of Alice in Wonderland and got really scared and tripped out by it (whereas at the time it was just...cool, I guess). If we were talking about childhood staple movies, I'd like to say that The Dark Crystal scares me to death more now than it did then. I used to re-watch that film over and over again. Now, it just scares the bejesus out of me. Especially the Garthim and Skesis. They're freaky, y0.

4. How old were you when you first learned to read?
I first learnt to read music when I was 4, so I'm guessing the word thing was around that time too.

5. Do you remember the first 'grown-up' book you read? How old were you?
It was probably when they first brought out the Star Wars novels by Timothy Zahn, back in 1994. I would have been about 12.
