origin of "meme"

Yes people, it is a real word...and it's even from a real field of study too.

"meme" stems from the study of "memetics" (mim-etics...sorry, I'm not the best with spelling things phoenetically).
Memetics is the study of mutations of information as they travel from person two person, culture to culture.

ie, livejournal is full of it, the fridayfive is a kind of example of it...that kind of thing.

So basically someone out there in lj land is a cultural studies/anthropology nut who is playing a cruel, cruel trick to see if the meme term pops up. Or such is my belief.

Incidentally, I think "meme" would be pronounced literally "me me" rather than "meem". Going by the root of the word and all.
