I was flipping channels last night...
and I flipped over to the swimming. For all those not in Oz (which is a fair few of you), they're competing for National titles and their spots on the team to go to Barcelona for the World Championships later this year.
The first semi-final for the Mens 50m Butterfly was on. The field's big names, Geoff Huegill and Matt Welsh and some others were there...I was cheering for Huegy and Mattie cos I l0ff them both...they finish the heat and then the results flash up.
And there's this name that I recognise. The name of a guy I used to swim with when I was doing competitive swimming back in primary school.
So I'm sitting there going "OMG, OMG, it can't be him! But what if it is! OMG OMG OMG!" Cos, me not having watched the introduction to the race, didn't know what state he was from. So then I was in agony whether it was him or not, cos I couldn't for the life of me remember whether he was a fly swimmer or not - I remembered him as a freestyler and backstroker.
I just checked the website...they even have little swimmer profiles...
*squee* It is him! Someone I used to swim with is at National level! *squee squee*
And just checking the results for the final that was on this evening (but is on delayed broadcast b/c of the cricket), he came 7th, which means that he's missed out on Barcelona...but it's still cool!
*bounce*

edit to add:
And the other exciting thing whilst watching the swimming last night? My favourite male breaststroker of all time, who I idolised during my swimming "career" (for lack of a better word), Phil Rogers, is still swimming at age 31. And making the finals :D
I have loved Phil forever. I thought that he didn't swim anymore cos I hadn't seen him on tv for years. But he's still out there. It's just unfortunate that there are a few people who are faster than him now :( He came 4th. Alas....
