But there's no Darryl Somers here, thank god.
Nothing terribly exciting today. Got up at a reasonable time (9:30ish) and pottered around for ages before leaving to go to rehearsal just before noon.
Had lunch in the city, then as it was absolutely gorgeous weather today - warm and sunny, just enough air circulation so as you didn't get hot, I walked down to the venue with Cal from uni.
At which point we discovered the terror that was string sectional all day :P
Not that that's a bad thing, per se, it can just get a bit tedious because there's no brass or woodwind or percussion to divert attention away from us. Fortunately, the viola section absolute rocks and we nailed 95% of all that we did, compared to varying levels of success in the other sections. Nasty stuff going on in the 1st and 2nd violins intonation and ensemble-wise though. V. difficult sections to play in though, especially with all the new blood in the sections this year after the post-tour out-flux last year.
We spent the whole afternoon on Beethoven's Leonore Overture no.3 because they decided last week (when I was away doing that wedding) that we'd also be playing that at the Carmina Burana concert. So we learnt and are well on the way this week, so it should be pretty damn good.
My viola, Stefan, is really pissing me off though. He's an utter bastard and his sounding points are screwed. Plus, he needs an uber shitload of playing in, after spending what I believe is a long time in storage in a collection :P And that's playing-in time that I don't really have, being a violinist and all. I'm sure that once he wakes up, he'll be right as rain and really resonant all the time, but it will take years, at least, whereas he will be in my possession until the end of the year, unless I decided to re-hire him again.
All makes me love my violin more though. My little angel, who is nearly all played-in and awake for the first time in it's life. My darling little 5 year old :)
