Tuesday, Wednesday...Great Expectations!
Firstly I'd like to say big squishy thankyou's to all who have congratulated me on getting into AYO. It really means a lot and makes me all warm and fuzzy :)
*hugs to all*
Last night, as mentioned previously, I went to see a production of Great Expectations. I have never seen a play as innovative as that. Some operas I've seen have been pretty out there, but this was a play. It was totally awesome. I wouldn't know how well it was adapted, but it was fairly linear and the main character's thoughts were spoken by a sort of chorus individually who stood up on the upper level of a sort of circular stage. And for boats...they used normal wooden chairs with wheels on the bottom. I want one! Computer wheely chairs are one thing, but this was another :)
When we arrived there last night, the director of the play came on stage to apologise because the actor playing Magwitch had had an accident (poor guy) and was unable to perform the role. Ros Williams (of Full Frontal/Fast Forward fame) filled in at the last minute which proved to be quite funny. The director said had said "just pretend that the man in reading glasses holding two sheets of paper is a really menacing convict!" Thusly, when Magwitch was doing several scenes it became quite hilarious because he was unfolding and turning pages. But he was damn good considering the whole last minute thing.
So if you're in Melbourne with a spare 4-odd hours to spare, go see it!
