Torchwood 10---Say what? Spoilers ahead

I've been an avid fan of Torchwood for some years now. Since the beginning I guess you could say when we were first introduced to Captain Jack Harkness on the Doctor Who episode "Are You My Mummy?" Which incidentally remains one of my favorite episodes--the combination of creepy kid, WWII Britain, orphans, Rose/Zeppelins, the Doctor, and the introduction of Jack was fantastic!
I was there when Jack became an immortal, when Gwen was recruited, when Owen(tear!) and Tosh died, and even worse when they killed off Ianto and Jack's grandson was sacrificed in 'Children of Earth'. I knew the timeline of when Jack and the doctor interacted--needless to say I was a bit of fan.

And then there was the new season--it's been a bit of a bumpy ride I'll admit.  For one thing, it's never easy to introduce a new cast of characters...especially when the last cast was so beloved. There were a lot of Ianto/jack fans out there in the universe who weren't very happy...

Having been more of an Owen fan, I was good with a new season/hell, a new show. The moving to America thing left me a bit for a loop I'll admit, but I went with it. The first episode-Jack-Gwen-Jeep-Helicopter-AMAZING. Loved it! I'll also be the first to admit I wasn't and still aren't in love with the new cast---what's left of them that is.

The concept of this season was definitely interesting and I think a dynamic look at the human race--something Torchwood always seems to do great---often times better than Doctor Who if I do say so myself. Just what would happen if people stopped dying? In the Torchwood universe the results of this phenomenon are both fascinating and bone-chilling. How quickly society downgrades into chaos is horribly realistic. People don't die but there are people who should be dead--what to do with these individuals? I know. Let's stick them in a camp--a realistic triage scenario--and those people who can't die--well, with no end in sight of this 'miracle' and limited resources--let's burn them. And PS: This is mandatory for all people WE deem catagory ones. And guess what people end up not caring and letting it happen even after the truth is exposed (because this has totally never happened before in society).

I think that's the scariest part of Torchwood at times---the grains of truth embedded throughout the series in regards to human nature--the ability to turn a blind eye because 'hey, it's not us". Or the ability to embrace a charasmatic speaker because he's reassuring even if he is a known child rapist and murderer--but hey, he's a public figure to revere and listen to.

Or how quickly people turn to what could be deemed as cults--because things that are different scare them.

So yeah, this season didn't have many aliens and there wasn't a new mystery to solve every week but what we got in return was a true examination of character---definitely a bigger picture scene then we have seen in past seasons.

We got to see Jack as still a bit of a broken man from the events of 'Children of Earth'--still reeling over the choices he made and the loved ones he lost. And then we got introduced to Angelo and for a far too brief episode bit we got to see the lighter, carefree Jack of days past---and of course the hotness between them--wow--and then how that episode ended--poor Jack we learned so much of why you are the way you are among other things.

And then episode 10 came and everything was finally revealed--well, almost everything--and Ester died (which by the way--shitty conclusion on her sister's storyline) and then there's Rex.

God, how I have hated Rex from the beginning--hell, it was so set up for us a viewer to hate Rex. And then I knew--the moment they showed that he had transfused Jack's blood into him--I knew they were setting him up to be like Jack--which I'm still mulling over in my brain and going back and forth on---really it's been his blood this whole time? After everything---seriously how does this make sense?

But the thing is I'm still intrigued, I'm still wanting more--so good on you Torchwood--I'll be back.
