I hate to say it but I've decided to close the community, at least for now. The past two rounds only two people have entered, and I just don't think it's fair to vote between two people unless it's the final round, even then when it's three people left, I make it the final round.

I don't know if its just a lack of interest in the community, the participants don't have time, my lack of keeping things on schedule (which I apologize for, I do try), or what. But, it just isn't working. Those that did enter, I unscreened your entries so at least people can see your work and it wasn't entirely for nothing.

I may reopen the community in a few months or later, depends on if I feel as though people will sign up and participate.

Sorry to those that continued to enter, but I think it should be done for now.

Yes, I'm here with yet another issue on voting comments. I know, enough already! But this might be a good one.

For the most recent voting posts at my LIMS communities, I was REALLY picky with comments. Because, basically, I'm trying to please everyone. Well, I'm figuring out that its just not possible, and I'll have to accept the fact that not everyone is going to approve of the way I run the community.

So, here's the new rules/guidelines and tips on how I expect you to vote.
→ As I've seen somewhere else, when voting, try to look at every icon first, then decide (for least favorites) which you can offer more advice for. The person I read that does that it seems to work well for them. For favorites, maybe try to look to see which one shows good technique and is the closest to being flawless? It's worth trying.
→ For now on, the personal preference thing is changing. I was WAY too picky previously when trying to become stern with getting better comments, well I realized I guess I just didn't know what really makes for a "too personal" reason. So as the wonderful quiddity_ helped me out with, I've decided for this part, to make it a non-personal reason, make your comments phrased in such a way so that they're based on technical reasons. The entry in which I received quiddity_'s opinion is HERE.
→ I'm still going to require that you EXPLAIN IN AS MUCH DETAIL AS YOU CAN for your reasons. "Nice crop and color" won't do anymore. The reason? Well because the maker for future reference will want to know why it was nice. What about the colors in the icon made it nice? Were they dark/bright which brought out/hid something that made it more appealing? What about the crop made it nice? Did it help focus on something? EXPLAIN. If I ask you to rephrase it for these reasons, basically I'll think to myself, after looking at the icon again and specifically for what you said, well what more can you tell the maker?

I hope that's all good, and I know it was A LOT. But, I'm just trying to make it a manageable system that everyone, or most, will appreciate. And if I ask you to rephrase a comment, but you think you did the best you could, tell me, and we'll talk it out! As long as you do your best it will most likely be okay, and you don't need to use "big" terms, in fact, it's better to use as simple of terms you can!

Well, only two people entered. There's no point in having someone eliminated or voter's choice with only two participants. So, I've decided to call it a draw. No one wins or loses.

Sorry to the two that entered, but I hope this was fair. If you two would like, I'll unscreen your entries so people can at least see them for you putting in your efforts of making the icons!

EDIT: Since it still technically counts, if you didn't enter I either took a skip if you had one left or you were eliminated if you didn't have any left.

I've decided its time to post polls and such at my communities to see how participants like/dislike the community and what I can do to change it in the best of my ability.

It was brought to my attention by a participant that they didn't like certain things (glad they pointed it out though so I can work on it!).

Before you take the poll, please take a couple more seconds to read the following:
I know it is annoying to wait for things when there's a deadline. 'Cause if you're like me, you want to know so badly how you did! Trust me, I get it, 'cause I get like that. But, real life sometimes gets in the way. And okay, maybe if it gets in the way I shouldn't do any/so many LIMS, but it's fun for me, and its a relaxing thing to do. So, before the poll, I know ahead that I really need to try and work on the schedule thing and being consistent with it. Moving on. One of the things brought to my attention was the voting polls. They expressed that they were unhappy with how many votes there are. I'll admit, I know that there is a lack of votes sometimes, but if I get tied up, I don't realize that til the last minute and there's no time to post anything for more votes because, well, there's a deadline. And I guess I figure, okay, well, maybe I'll just post it anyway since there's some votes rather than being late. Of course, it's a live and learn type deal. Just another thing I'm going to try to fix. Well, I think that's it, so now the poll.

First, I want to apologize for falling behind. College started and my sleep schedule is not what it should be so I was just so dead tired afterwards and didn't have a care in the world for the computer in general.

- The coloring is too reddish in the shadows which unbalanced the coloring. The icon is too sharpened.
- the saturation is too high on his skin, making it an unflattering tone

+ The coloring is great. So is the use of negative space

03.
- The coloring is a little too bright, should have been maybe just a bit darker, just 'cause his face in the one area of the jaw looks reallyyy bright.
+ stunning crop

- The icon is too blurry
- interesting crop but the overall colouring of the icon removes alot of contrast + depth
- The coloring is a bit orange, which is not flattering in Christian's face. It could have used a bit more contrast.

05.
+ The crop and coloring are absolutely wonderful. The crop was well done in that nothing was cut off in an awkward way. The coloring is beautiful for this image. Perfect amount of everything.

mod post: voting comments

Hello members. I saw a couple of posts at mod_lims that really got me to thinking about the comments people write when voting. And, then I realized, "wow, I really need to be more strict with having people elaborate more". In the beginning I was, then I started to slack.

Basically, what I'm trying to get at is that for now on, I will be very strict with what is acceptable and what's not acceptable as a comment. For both least favorite and favorite comments, you need to be constructive.

With least favorite comments, tell them why you think it is "too plain", "poorly cropped and/or colored", or anything. Tell the iconists what you are voting them off in the most elaborate way possible. When the iconists see a negative vote, they want to read the comment for help to improve next time. As for favorite votes, you need to do the same thing. Tell them why its "great coloring/cropping" and such. This helps them just as much as a negative vote, because they know what people like and they can do more of and remember it for next time.

Also, don't be afraid to be simple in terminology. As it said in the post at mod_lims, it's better to speak with simple terms then misuse a term. You don't have to be fancy and "use big words". As long as you get your point across clearly, it's good.

- The icon need to be sharpen a bit, it looks a bit blurry. And the black and white need to be a bit more contrasted.
- the icon is too plain, it needs something, maybe a texture or text or something.

- The icon is too brighten and the text too sharpen.
- the images are oversharpened; otherwise very nice concept.
+ great composition
+ The coloring is bright without being oversaturated, the red pops out which is great. The crop is fantastic, and the text placement is good and doesn't take anything away from the main subject of the icon.

03.
- poor text placement
- The text placement is awkward and draws the attention away from the subject.
- while simple is nice, this icon could have used a little more. the font/text doesn't fit and has poor placement.

04.
- texture overwhelms the image
- The texture used makes the icon look a bit patchy and makes the focal point his shirt instead of his face, which makes the icon look a bit unbalanced.

05.
- The coloring makes the subject blend into the background and it makes it a bit confusing to look at.

07.
- unflattering colouring
+ The use of texture is great. It colored the icon very well without overwhelming it.
+ nice crop, the yellow works for this icon, the texture adds a nice touch as well.

08.
- The icon looks a bit blurry and the icon lacks a bit of contrast

Welcome to balelims! As you can see this is a Christian Bale Last Icon Maker Standing contest. I am aware that there is a Christian Bale LIMS already out there, but I figured I wanted to do one myself not to mention he's a great person to have more than one of!
