Into the Basement
A downloadable game
A level design project created for my 2nd year University games design project, where our aims where to create an Escape the room style demo based on a given prompt; the prompt I worked on being "From the Basement".
I used this project as a way to practice merging gameplay of different perspectives, having the player work in both third-person (fixed camera) and first person. This works to make the player feel more familiar with their environment and allows for creative puzzles that could not work with a single perspective.
A retro style fixed camera survival horror heavily inspired by games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Explore, solve puzzles and defend yourself. Escape the Basement.
This project was made in Unreal Engine 5.4. I used Niagara and post processing materials to create fleshed-out visual style. The peak of the demos visual appeal comes in its climax, in which the player is blinded and most use their microphone (real voice) to create LIDAR style particles to reveal their surroundings.
