Thor: Love and Thunder - my thoughts

“Thor, Love and Thunder” is now playing in theaters and I wanted to speak on how I felt about it. I don’t normally watch Marvel movies, but my family is into them, and I wanted to see this one.

Thor and Jane are one of only two ships that I enjoy in this universe; this is number two. This movie seriously upset me not only the ending, and I can understand why it happened. But the fact that they ignored the villain made no sense, but they had to play up the jokes and laughs and I thought why this is happening because the themes were serious and the danger was immediate and to laugh it off felt strange and awful.

I’m mentioning this because my ‘Thane’ story on FFN is trending and you will understand why it is happening. My 10k-word fiction will not spoil you for the new movie, although a few scenes felt nice to see Thane together again. Written in January 2013, and in my author notes, I revealed that I had no idea where this story came from but the prompts frankly spoke to me. My Muse surprised me and now I’m glad I wrote it and when you read it, you will understand why I feel this way. After watching the movie, I came home and read it again and it felt like a balm to my aching soul. Its a happy ending they so deserved.

Whatever It Takes ~ Genre: Romance/Mystery (55,000 words): This will be the third in the series of stories called ‘The Psychic Trilogy,’ set in the same future universe as ‘To Love Again’ and ’Never Just a Dream’. In this one, as before, their psychic abilities, their friends and colleagues, and how their abilities affect their lives, will continue to drive the story. Based on characters I’ve written before, Steve Gilbert and Lisa Harris are accomplished spies, but they’re also in love. A few months ago, Steve went missing and Lisa is determined to find him. Despite the evidence, his missing body; no signs of a struggle or DNA; there’s nothing that will stop her from finding out the truth and in turn, hopefully, to find Steve alive and well. This story is told mostly in flashback form, meaning Lisa’s memories leading up to his disappearance, which may be the key to finding him. Not sure where we’ll find her after the memories fade, but you need to read to find out.

Fan Fiction Round-up - 2016 revised

A summary: In 2016, I wrote six fan fiction stories totaling 181,500 words. I’m up from 2015 with 140,000! My Westallen Muse dwindled down to 20,000 words, which included the ‘Westallen Smut Challenge’: Over the Edge. Most of the words were written for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Star Wars (TFA, 2015).

**I've decided to add my current WIP (Before You Go), because the majority of that fiction was written in 2016 (61,000 words)!

My current WIP (if any): Before You Go (Clark/Lois, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) & Justice League (2017)). With a total of 71,300 currently written, this fiction will be complete by the end of January 2017. It's the third in a series of stories that began when Man of Steel premiered in June 2013, and since then, I've written 'Man of Steel: Stolen Moments' and 'Till the End of Time.' You should read those pieces before reading this one.

My longest fan fiction: Back to You (Finn/Rey, Star Wars/TFA (2015)), with a total of 43,000 words. My Muse kicked into high gear several weeks after seeing the movie. What drove the story was the idea that they were thrown together by destiny and the rest flowed nicely.

My best story: Till the End of Time (Clark/Lois, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)). As if I need to explain why this story was written. It felt like therapy after a member of my family had died. It was tough at first feeling Lois’s pain of loss and loneliness, but I got through it and so did she.

My favorite story: Over the Edge (Barry/Iris, Flash-TV (2014). The Second Annual Westallen Smut Challenge. Earths 1 and 2 were the focus of writing this story. With different prompts for each chapter, it flowed between both universes with ease, which stories of this kind usually do; at least for me.

My favorite OC: Back to You (Finn/Rey, Star Wars/TFA (2015)). It felt wonderful to give Finn and Rey twin boys. I didn’t go into any great length, that included showcasing them as toddlers and then as young men (19 years old), the same age as their grandfather when he became a Jedi, but also giving them names like: Luke and Finn, Jr., felt right, especially for Finn and Rey.

Story most under-appreciated by fandom, in my opinion: Things that Never Die (James/Kara, Supergirl (TV-2015)). Not much else needs to be said. Fans don’t like James, but I love him.

Story I wrote that I never thought I'd write: Something Real (James/Kara, Supergirl (TV-2015)). Kara on red-K intrigued me and I wanted to showcase their chemistry (which I truly hoped would happen in the episode ‘Falling’), but the writers thought otherwise.

Most fun: My Supergirl stories, all of them, which totaled close to 34,000 words! My Muse couldn’t let them go. *sigh*

Sexiest story: Over the Edge (Barry/Iris, The Flash TV (2014)). Written for the Second Annual Westallen Smut Week Challenge, I had so much fun on Earth 1 and Earth 2.

Hardest story to write: Things that Never Die (James/Kara, Supergirl (TV (2015)). After James was abruptly stricken from Kara’s life as a love interest, I wrote this story with a slight hope that they could work things out, and get back together.

Easiest to write: Back to You (Finn/Rey, Star Wars/TFA (2015)). I loved the movie and giving Rey Jedi powers right away, but keeping Finn’s Jedi powers underwritten (keeping them hidden, for much of the story) seemed to work.

Biggest surprise: Something Real (James/Kara, Supergirl (TV-2015)). Kara on red-K shocked and surprised me. I wrote this story before the episode aired and I loved writing it.

Never Just a Dream ~ Genre: Fantasy/Romance (45,000 words): In this original story that I’ve been thinking about since creating a character of color whose backstory that inspired me to write more, and I thought why not? In the earlier story entitled, To Love Again, she’s a widow, her name was ‘Jane’ but in this original fiction, her name is Angela Jane Bennett. It’s set in the future; she’s single; still a psychic; but now she has siblings, a different job (a lawyer), but she’s plagued by dreams that could change her life. Also, I’m trying my hand at fem!slash for the first time, but it’s not the main ship. Take a look when you get some time! Thanks, everyone.

A summary: In 2015, I wrote six fan fiction stories totaling 140,000 words. I was way down from 2014 with 223,000! I’m not surprised by these numbers. My Man of Steel Muse dwindled down to a mere 10,000 words, which included finishing up my most popular fiction: Man of Steel: Stolen Moments. The majority of the words were written for The Flash (TV-2014).

My longest fan fiction: Sweet Destiny (Barry/Iris, The Flash (TV-2014)), with a total of 34,000 words. My Muse kicked into high gear with this fiction that initially began with a prompt from the Westallen Appreciation Week: Time Travel.

My best story: With You (Kara/James, Supergirl TV (2015)). I was totally surprised at how easily the words flowed months before the series premiered. I did watch the a six-minute preview video and not much else. The pilot leaked during this process but I didn’t watch it. Of course, I’d heard casting rumors, and I added those characters which ramped up the drama of Kara and James getting together. Now adding Clark and Lois to the mix was not part of any rumors, but it was just made a lot of sense to add them to the story.

My favorite story: If I Have to Wait (Thor/Jane, Thor Movies (2011-2013)). I couldn’t remember ever writing anything so emotional before but considering Jane won’t be returning to the third movie, I’m glad I wrote this. Story I wrote that I never thought I'd write: If I Have to Wait (Thor/Jane, Thor Movies 2011-2013)). I have to say that in order to be in the ‘Marvel’ fandom can be lonely at times. Fans love the ‘men’ and women invading those strict barriers is closed off and unforgiving. Comments were a bit brutal, but I get it, women are second class and not very important, but not in my stories. Hopefully, Marvel will wake up and treat women and people of color with more respect.

Most fun: My Westallen stories, all of them, which totaled close to 110,000 words! My Muse didn’t let me down. Next to Clois, they're my favorite OTP.

Sexiest story: Just for Tonight (Barry/Iris, The Flash TV (2014)). Written for the First Annual Westallen Smut Week. I had so much fun with it, even though I added a bit of plot not just sex.

Hardest story to write: It Comes from the Heart (Barry/Iris, The Flash-TV (2014)). Written as a partial-AU story with prompts that included, among other prompts: old friends from school, not involved at all, meeting again by accident, but also with different careers. The hardest part was getting back to their current lives, meaning a different timeline. I changed it to a dream. It was tricky but so much fun.

Easiest to write: Just for Tonight (Barry/Iris, The Flash TV (2014)). Yes, the smut was pretty easy to write actually. *snickers*

Biggest disappointment: I loved all my stories this past year, so the only thing disappointing was the fact I didn’t write more. For over six years, the word count has gone up not down. *pouts* Hopes to write more this year.

Biggest surprise: I’m Right Beside You (Barry/Iris, The Flash TV (2014)). I so enjoyed writing this story, which included Barry and Iris reconnecting after Eddie’s death. They also dated, Iris moved into her first apartment, their intimate relationship was a trial, they broke up, but eventually worked it out.
