exciting back

Lately my life has been more exciting than the usual I-have-none daily activities, which revolved around browse around the internet, watch Grey's Anatomy, bake, complain and do my final research project for school. It has been so exciting in fact I couldn't bear writing it here because I know it wouldn't justify the real excitement. Intrigued, are you? However, I can share one exciting thing here because I know some of you would be excited upon learning about it.

Go here to see it for yourself. My jaw literally dropped and I almost pissed my pants and in the end, I could hardly remember how to breathe. Fucking exciting, hell yeah!!!

Sexy check, good...

I'm here to proclaim my sore disappointment with Justin's leaked songs. I downloaded three more songs and decided they all suck, a lot, which is so disappointing since I was looking forward to be blown away (in easy pop sense). I mean, I was one of the few people who liked Sexyback. Besides, I enjoyed Justified a lot and I think he really got the voice to be a genuinely good popstar. This on the other hand sounds like something Usher would put out. So he was taking chances with Timbaland instead of sticking with the safe hit-guaranteed Pharrell, but it didn't work. Stop trying to be ghetto JT, we want your white hawt self.

pah.

shabu nobu

You'd wonder how the hell did I manage to eat out ALL the time? Well, school break my friend, is the key. Especially since my house rarely serves lunch and I had no choice but eat out. There's also the tendency for me to fulfill any sudden craving I had. That also explains the frequency of baking, no life would do that.

Anyway, Yesterday's lunch was at Shabu Nobu, a shabu-shabu cum sushi joint nearby my house. My parents and I have had enough with heavy food in Bali and we decided on something light and fresh. Shabu-shabu it is.

The Prep:

Boiling broth, a plate of assorted raw veggies (including tofu and udon) and beef (ours was US Black Angus), spices of your choice (spring onions, garlic and onion puree, and bird eye chilies) that you mix into the bowl of soy/mirin sauce for your cooked vegs and beef. A growing trend in shabu-shabu joint is the addition of peanut sauce. Even though I'm a traditionalist (only the mirin sauce thank you very much), this peanut sauce has got to be the best version I've yet to try.

The veggies were pretty fresh, the udon not so much. It gave a kind of acrid aftertaste, but that might just be me since no one else said anything and none of us had upset tummy afterwards.

A pack of gluttons that we are, we also ordered the Sushi. Sushi Nobu is after all, one of my fav fusion-sushi joint. In fact, we just ate there a week before. No, moderation has never been our virtue. Since I'm on a quest to sample ALL kinds of sushi they had, I tried not to order the same thing. This time was the Nobu Roll (on the right), which had salmon on top, asparagus, and tuna. What is a fusion sushi without the mandatory spicy-mayo-cream cheese mixture spread artistically? I forgot what was the other roll, it has avocado, asparagus, soft shell crab (that tasted just like crumbs, no crab) and probably turnips on top with ponzu sauce. I have no idea what the pink thing was.

Although none of them are bad, they're not that special either so I doubt I'd re-order them. Not when I have another menu page to sample.

We also ordered appetizers that came in form of Chawan Mushi (egg custard, a favorite of my dad), Wakame (seaweed) salad that was pretty tasty and fresh, and also salmon sashimi salad that came with creamy dressing. Bad news, I stuck my nose high up in the air when it comes to creamy dressing. Other than that, it was good. The sashimi was fresh and succulent. Good, good, good.

Now, the dessert! Both the ogura (red bean) and green tea ice cream came in miniscule size so yay! No guilt even though I finished BOTH of them. They're good but I prefer the more intense taste of green tea.

Overall Verdict:

Very nice, not the best Shabu ever (that belongs to Kahyangan). Since I am a shabu-shabu and Sushi fiend PLUS it's only 5 minutes drive from my house, I'd definitely go back here again and again, especially since the price isn't as ghastly as Kahyangan.

Btw, go read Christopher Moore. I'm almost finished reading Lamb and I just couldn't remember when was the last time a book made me laugh this much, not even Terry Pratchett. Seriously, it was that funny.

Also, even though this original song is absolutely fantastic, I still prefer the sexed-up version by this little dude that no one had ever heard of. That song never failed to get me all hot and bothered. That was of course, when Trent still had neck. Speaking of which, have you seen his recent pictures? Dude scared the hell out of me. He had NO NECK and all muscles that could crunch my tiny bones *shudders*

Meme, because I am BORED BORED BORED.
APPEARANCE:
[ ] I am shorter than 5'4.
[x] I think I'm ugly sometimes.
[x] I have many scars.
[x] I tan easily.
[ ] I wish my hair was a different color.
[ ] I have friends who have never seen my natural hair color.
[ ] I have a tattoo.
[x] I am self-conscious about my appearance.
[x] I've had braces.
[x] wear glasses.
[ ] I would get plastic surgery if it were 100 safe, free of cost, and scar-free.
[x] I've been told I'm attractive by a complete stranger.
[ ] I have more than 2 piercings.
[ ] I have piercings in places besides my ears.
[ ] I have freckles.

FAMILY/HOME LIFE:
[x] I've sworn at my parents.
[ ] I've run away from home.
[ ] I've been kicked out of the house.
[ ] I have a sibling less than one year old.
[ ] I want to have kids someday.
[ ] I've had children.
[ ] I've lost a child.

SCHOOL/WORK:
[x] I'm in school.
[x] I have a job.
[ ] I've fallen asleep at work/school.
[x] I almost always do my homework.
[x] I've missed a week or more of school.
[ ] I've been on the Honor Roll within the last 2 years
very productive

It's been two days since I arrived from Bali (great time, will post later about that) and I have baked three items. How's that for productive? The first one was Vanilla Bean Buttermilk Cake that I made for breakfast yesterday. I didn't tinker too much with the recipe apart from the mandatory reduce the sugar thing. Since buttermilk is not available in here, I also used the usual sub of non-fat vanilla yoghurt watered down with 2% milk. I also skipped the orange sauce because we had been on vacation and our poor fridge was empty. Like a proper breakfast cake, I ate it with several assortments like honey and apricot jam, with my father preferring the former and I the latter. It tasted rich enough to do without butter.

It was very well-received with the family, and 8" pan of cake was gone in less than 24 hours. I think it was pretty good, very easy and quick to throw together and even though it's not too bad for you(come on, 5 tbs of butter for a whole pan!), it tasted decadent enough. I'm already itching to make it again and dress it up a bit, making a layer cake with it, drizzling ganache over it, or just serve with fresh fruits and cream. The sky is the limit, my friend.

Due to my crappy camera phone, you couldn't see the vanilla beans that liberally speckled the whole thing. Next time, I'm gonna add vanilla extract to boost the flavor and cover the eggy and richness of it.

Today, I baked Norwegian Apple Cake for breakfast with lots of subtitute like using whole wheat + cake flour, brown + white sugar combo and raw cashews + a bit of macadamia. It sucked. Well it didn't suck really, just too sweet and the nuts tasted too.. raw. My house elves seem to like 'em though.

Since I hate the after taste of failure, I decided to make something else, like probably Chocolate Cake. This recipe plug the cake like whoa, so I decided why not. It seems easy enough and it uses oil, hurray for cheap cake! I halved the recipe, decreased the sugar by a lot (almost half) and use 2% milk + 1 tsp vinegar.

I had been against the idea of using frosting, especially the <s>addictively</s> sickeningly sweet Buttercream frosting, but the cake tasted rather bland with so little sugar and 2% milk. It definitely needs sugar and fat boost, so I made the frosting with no recipe. Just a bit of butter, a bit of castor sugar, 2 tbsp of milk, vanilla bean... Voila.

The texture was amazing, moist, light and when refridgerated, perfectly fudgy. The taste on the other hand was just okay. It's probably the milk and sugar. The buttercream was as usual, too sweet for my taste. But the family responded very well to it. In conclusion, I have yet to find the perfect chocolate cake but since I still got several weeks of school break, that wouldn't be much of a problem.

Both of the video and songs got slagged and deemed not good enough, even by 'pop standard'. Me? I like it. I love the song; the catchy beat but not so much his heavily-altered voice. Dude can sing, why not let him did it? It is also a bit different from his first album (that I love, really.. I do). Props for a major popstar who's taking chances, I say.
The video on the other hand was kind of crappy. Not enough sexiness, JT! Also, like the song, it seems generic and rather unmemorable if it wasnt for the hawtness that is JT.

As you and I know, this single will EXPLODE. Every clubs will play it, it will be on every radio and TV. He's gonna be on every magazine cover and kids who think they're so '1nd13' and Rawk would be pissed off because they got the song stuck in their head. All is very predictable. Me? I shall get my hands on the CD, no doubt.

Today's lunch with mom.

- Seafood salad (very good and fresh. amazing-textured squids)
- Soft-shell crab with mango salad: have had better
- Crispy "kangkung" (spinach-like greens): pretty good, but the chili sauce (the same with the crab) tasted a bit bottled for me. I ended up feeling sickly
- Decoriander tea for me (not pictured, it's just a glass of tea after all): very nice with strong pinapple and subtle apple taste
- A glass of very fresh and tart juice of pinapple, lime and caisim. Healthy...

After repeated listening, the highly-anticipated Thom Yorke CD has yet to blow me away. The Raconteurs on the other hand, the songs are so.. crunchy-ly good it's almost annoying. So yeah, everyone, go listen to the Raconteurs. Since I've given recommendation, how about anyone give me the lowdown on the new Justin album? I kid you not, I really am dying to listen to it, or even better.. watch the video. Yes Justin, you really are bringing Sexy Back. I mean, no one came close to him in the hotness department and by no one, I mean no one in MTV.

Mi casa, su casa

I always had a soft spot for William Wongso. The old W in Kemang was a favorite for my Dad and I to have evening tea and I'd always find an excuse to go to Aksara downstairs to get a book or a CD. In fact, most of the times the evening tea was a cover up for the CD/book shopping trip. I'm sure my dad knew of this but he good-naturedly played along anyway because they served killer Salmon Quiche and for me, awesome Walnut Pie. Other than those, W was mostly hit-or-miss.

For some unknown reason, they changed the name and the setting to a more relaxed, lounge-ish cafe called Casa. The menu didn't change too much so I braced myself to test the sandwiches, a speciality of the house. The Vegetarian sandwich (that I asked with pita instead of foccaccia) was absolutely amazing. You know how most places tried to cover their lack of ingredients quality with disgusting amount of fat and sugar? This did not happen with any of Wongso's establishment. The vegetables (bellpeppers, eggplants and zucchini) were perfectly roasted and spiced, supported with only a hint of cheesiness, letting the veggies to play the starring role in this meal. I was very happy and excited to go there again, preferrably soon.

bellpepper, yummm.. and you can see my jeans. It was takeout after all

Soon was several days later with Vita because we wanted to feel Posh and had afternoon tea. Plus she was craving for hot chocolate cake. So she ordered that, whilst the always adventurous writer here tried the "Earl Grey Water Ice with Lemon Curd", something I had no idea what would be like.

Apparently the 'water ice' refers to the brown crumbles you could see in the pics. Instead of the usual flour/butter/sugar, it was ice/butter/sugar which was really interesting. The curd was refreshingly sour. In fact the whole medley can be discribed as 'interesting' and 'refreshing', it tasted sour, salty, and a hint of sweet. Perfect for hot and humid summer days. I'm not sure if it was for everyone though.

The hot chocolate cake was good, but then again have you ever had a BAD hot chocolate cake? Me neither. The crumbly pastry thing is a nice twist though, very crunchy and not buttery.

So today, my Mom and I went there for lunch because I promised her the black squid-ink noodle that she so loved from W. Plus, I wanted to try another sandwich. The noodle turned out to be unlike the one we meant. Instead of being like chicken noodle soup (plus wonton), it was dry and stir-fried, like pasta. The taste was 'spicy' and that was it. Nothing more and nothing less, well you could say it was 'not salty enough'. In fact, it was not tasty enough and not pretty enough for a picture. I'd give this a pass.

What about my sandwich you ask? I ordered Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich that came in french bread (well it was vietnamese after all) and I knew it was a mistake because I'm not crazy about french bread. Plus they refused to change the bread to Pita, my preference. The bread wasn't good, it was very dry. I don't know if it was stale or they didn't toast it enough, but it came COLD. The filling, although very fresh was only so-so. Plus the chicken came in six tiny tiny slices. So yeah. The best thing was the homemade potato chips that came with every sandwiches.

All in all, it was still a hit-or-miss with one definite hit, one miss and one okay.

Oh Elijah, I know that your current gf is very cool and pretty, and she's also a drummer which I bet makes you think of Stone Roses' 'She Bangs The Drums' and gave yourself a major point for that. I bet you're very happy with her too, as seen on these lovey-dovey pics. Have fun man, but don't forget when I'm there, you're gonna marry me. Thank you and good night.

For caffeine addict in all of us..

Vita asked me to make something for her movie night-in. I’ve had enough of chocolate-y and vanilla-ey stuff and she refused anything citrusy and a friend hated banana. Oh, I also had no creamcheese. This points to the obvious choice, Nigella’s Cappuccino Cupcake . I am a die hard coffee fan who could not resist the idea of cupcakes that SMELL like coffee and looking like a cup of latte... Plus it’s nigella.

oooo, suggestive ;)

I decreased the sugar to almost half, replaced the milk with instant coffemix powder diluted with water and added the espresso powder there. I also used regular chocolate ganache made with Lindt’s Milk Mocha Chocolate and heavy cream (and a splash of Kahlua.. come on.. BOOZE).

The batter quite probably the best mixture of raw eggs, flour and butter that I have ever tested. In into the oven, which was pre-heated to 180 instead of 200, shrugged and crossed my fingers. 20 Minutes later, my kitchen smells like HEAVEN (in a cup of latte). The cupcakes took the color of latte and it looked pretty ugly for cupcakes, which would be covered with sinful choklit ganache fortunately. I couldn’t wait until it cools and dove into one. It crumbles and I cried tears of joy. IT CRUMBLES. And the smell.. oh god… I could write a porn scene based on this cupcake episode.
However, the tasters think they need more sugar. Oh well, this is what happens when the bakers have their coffee black and no sugar (a constant source of amusement among my friends).

Since vita’s gonna bring those babies to movienight with three guys, I’m expecting marriage proposals soon.

not the best day for food

Last night I had unbearable craving for a nice chocolate cupcake, one with delicate crumbs and beautiful frosting. Because it was too.. midnight-y to bake one, I decided to stave my craving for later. So I woke up today and immediately marched up to the kitchen and made one batch.

Now, I NEVER had any luck with cupcakes. They were never BAD, but never what I had been looking for. Most were too dense and too rich for my liking. This ones were no different. It's rich, dense and CRUMBLESS.

and the picture is ugly. It's dense, you can tell, can't you?

It's spiteful. I hate them, and I let them know about it, which went something like this (with all caps, of course)

ME: What is wrong with you people?! You're ugly AND FAT! I HATE YOU!
THEM: *silent look*
ME: Don't give me THE look. I know what you're thinking, you think this is my fault, don't you? Well you're wrong. No baked goods of mine are this DENSE (a lie of course, but they needed to FEEL BAD, you understand me, don't you?).
THEM: *pleading look*
ME: (final bellow) I HATE YOU! *eats*

My family on the other hand loved it. I suspect it's the vanilla buttercream frosting and cute sprinkles and rainbow chocolate chips. My sister whilst adoring it comment "What is this? Brownie?"

NO, ASSFUCK! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE CUPCAKE! GODDAMN! I didn't alter the recipe. Not one bit and they don't have the 'pillowy' texture. *Sniffles*. I ate three though, each one was swallowed with hate and a glass of cold milk since it was so rich.

So after a very rich and loathsome breakfast *glares*, my family and I went to Imperial Palace nee Crystal Jade, a chinese restaurant that was a <s>father</s> family favorite. When we went to Duck King the other day, I mentioned even though I loved it, I still prefer Crystal Jade. Now? Duck King is The King. We ordered the usual stuff:

* Prawn and egg yolks

Perfectly cooked, not rich and just delicious. Of course once you've had that once a month AT LEAST, the novelty has worn out

* Smoked Salmon Fried Rice

(that's one of them prawns that landed on my plate. My dad demolished the rest)

Tasted like what you think it would. I've said it before and I'll say it again, chinese makes the best friend rice.

* Egg whites and scallops

Yes, raw egg yolks that you mix with the cooked egg whites that looked scrambled but really yummy and not icky. You couldn't even tell, could you?

* Beef shank with sweet red sauce, crispy soy wonton skin with bun

Assemble yourself, you lazy twat!

eat.

Perfect, this one has always been a favorite of mine. The beef was amazingly tender and the skin provided a needed savory crunch, but the sauce takes the <s>cake</s> bun man.. Fantastic. If you had to order ONE thing here, get this one.

* Jellyfish

It was darker than I remembered, and very.. jelly like. Not sure if I like it better than the previous ones I've had.

* la Mian, this time was vegetable & chicken dumpling

I always love properly made La Mian, it was slurpy, tender and provides good entertainment for your mouth. The dumpling is merely passable though

* Steamed Kailan with oyster sauce

no picture because my family inhaled them before I could take my crappy camera phone out

I've said it before and I'll say it again, chinese really master the cooking time. Even though I think this one is rather bland and biter if you skimped on the sauce, it was perfectly cooked. Crispy and juicy.

And not so usual stuff:

*dumplings that turned out to be the same one in the la mian.

* Fruit Salad

How pretty! The taste is bland but the crispy skin is good; crunchy. Yes, I love crunchy stuff. Freud would've said I have unconscious destructive drive.

* Stringbeans with bean paste (I think)

Even though the beans was perfectly cooked, I found it too salty and oily.

There we have it. We will come back, for sure. My dad couldn't bear a month without the prawns and egg white scallops. I could live without those. The Tofu from duck king on the other hand.. I notice I didn't take any picture when I was there. Good, more excuse to eat there.

Right, off to spend my saturday night by watching Lost, season 2! YAY, NO SLEEP TONIGHT!

p.s: Grey's anatomy? Fucking excellent. Will buy the season 2 asap!

I did too many drugs and alcohol, I have a hangover..

Apple cheddar muffin for anyone who could correctly identified that quote.

Anyway last night, I did go out and get drunk, in a happy estatic kind of way so I forgot shouting fuck life thingy. And I was so sure it would be my trademark quote, not unlike 'choose life' one from Trainspotting. Apart from that, I made a kickass mushroom risotto for dinner last night and mushroom spinach for tonight. These things always made me wanna scorned every living male species out there. They do not know what they're missing.
Conceit is always a good way for covering your insecurites

This week accomplishment, other than being 2.5 times meaner than usual consists of Kazuo Ishiguro's The Remains of The Day. Good book, the best one I've read in a while. I think I'd describe it as 'profound'. The same could not be said for Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, a monster book. It was so huge I had to get the three-books edition instead of one huge ass one. It was quite entertaining with minimal substance value. But come on, over 700 pages in 3 days is an accomplishment, admit it.

You know what I want? NIN fragility era tour shirt, with 'Where the fuck were you' in the back. I recalled seeing that when I saw the concert and fell in love immediately. If anyone know where to find it, do tell. If someone you know owned it, please beat the shit out of him/her, steal the shirt and send it my way. I suppose you could skip the beating part and proceed directly to steal the shirt and send it to me.

I should be studying now, but I really couldnt be arsed. I'm tired but I couldn't sleep.. another episode of insomnia. Have nothing in the house that would produce sleep, not even Method or Research textbook. I need sleep, I need rest and remind myself that there is the possibility that I won't wake up tomorrow. *sighs*

Oh well.. good night everyone.

Name 10 artists/bands you are really into currently, right?:

01. Nine Inch Nails
02. A Perfect Circle
03. Oooh, probably

+ what is your favourite lyric that 6 has sung?
"Something in my vein, bloodier than blood"

+ what was the first song you heard by 8?
Obstacle 1

I think I've grown up. *gasps*. No more unhealthy obsessions, well.. not as unhealthy as they were that is. I've found other bands I love, but none could bring me into the scale of obsession. That left me strangely empty since music obsession has always been such a huge part of me. I guess I need to find a life. Have a grat weekend eeryone

So long my lovin goes

Tis such a great week in my life. After more than two months of ipod abstinence, finally parental unit cum sponsor gave me one, a beautiful white SIXTY GB iPod VIDEO! Sixty GB, and VIDEO! I mentally and physically slobbered all over it. Another fourty-ish CDs to rip. Egad, not to mention those back up CDs of nifty bootlegs. But seriously, 2.5 hours of psychometric class passed like a blink of an eye when you're watching high-quality rips of NIN live shows <s>or daniel radcliffe on TRL </s> I officially rock, my friend, rock like a granite.

You know Kings of Leon? Their songs annoy me, I like them but they annoy me! How could that be! Everytime I listen to King of Rodeo, I'd be 'oooh this song is catchy' and the next second i'd go 'gah! Friggin get in to my nerves! Away with you!' but then.. 'hey it's quite enjoyable' and then 'holy crap, how annoying' and so on and so forth until I can't take it anymore and move in to the next song or the song has already been finished.

That's random. In another news that is not so random... wait, there is no other news. I've been doing nothing but transferring stuffs to iPod (which I have re-christened as Snow to stick with Neil Gaiman reference.) I've also been reading some stuffs, some are good (Desiree by Annemarie Selinko), others are okay (Blatty's The Exorcist) and the rest is crap (Peter Straub's Lost Boy, Lost Girl) but I'm gonna finish them anyway.

As usual, I'm disattached with the oscar buzz. Yes, I'm dying to see Brokeback Mountain, and yes I'm quite sure that it won't be released in cinema in here and yes I'm gonna despair but of course I'm gonna get the pirated DVDs. Ahhh, Indonesia, how much I love thee. So no, I haven't been watching anything worthwhile. There is 'Friday Night Lights', it's a football movie that starred Billy Bob Thornton. If you really knew me, you'd immediately ask for confirmation. Football, Billy Bob Thornton? Uhm, crack perhaps? No, I wasn't on crack. I watched it for the music score by Explosions in The Sky (awesome band, check them out blah blah blah). But the movie itself isn't too bad, even though I didn't understand half of what they were saying. But the score is what's important and the score is good so I'm happy.

I promise I'm gonna update when something exciting happens, so don't hold your breath.

p.s.: Dude, make me This and I'd marry you, especially if you're Elijah Wood. But Elijah or no, make me chocolate Souffle Cake with orange caramel sauce and I'd marry you.

Chaotic, not the TV show

This is one of rare moments in my LJ, in which I mentioned local current politics. My daily trip to uni that usually took up about 30 mins turned out to be one and half hour. The traffic jam was fucking insane, especially because I had to pass a gas station in normally crowded area. The scene was absolutely chaotic, there was no space between any vehicles and the sidewalk was taken up by motorcycles. I was stuck in the same place for 30 mins, with my eyes closed, my teeth gritted while mentally repeating "Thank god I don't drive." Almost everyone was in panic, scouting for available gas station.

Btw petrol price rises will mainly affect richer Indonesians who drive cars Define affect. The rich would whine a bit but come on.. these people could afford to buy each and every member of the family a nice fancy car that cost more than US$10grand, 60% petrol price would mean nothing. Once again, thank god I don't drive. Although yes, it would affect me since all prices would rise in effect of the petrol, but thank god we could afford it.

Speaking of things we could and could not afford.. One other door to my future is closed. Jesus fuck, just when I thought I knew what I wanted to do with my life. It goes sthg like this
1. "Ooohh, education programme. Sharing and shaping genius minds. Awesome!"
2. "You know, language, literacy and culture graduate program sounds really fun. Oooh, children's lit. classes! I could do lit recommendation for life?!! Awesome!"
3. "Dude! Minnesota looks pretty! Not expensive as well. Awesome!"
4. "Let's email them to let them know how much of an education, langlit fangirl I am!! *giddy*"
5. "Ooooh yay! Email reply.. Teaching experience. Wtf?!! I do not teach. I do not interact directly with children. Wtf man. I eat babies for breakfast!"

Me: Zero, Gloomy future prospect: 109

And that also means another closed door for australia. What use is transferring to OZ if I don't really need it? We can't really afford it anyway.

Oh well.. something will come up. In the mean time, I believe I'm the last one to be astounded by Spoon. Dude, 'Gimme fiction' kicks serious ass. If it turned out that you haven't listened to them, I strongly suggest you do. 'Sister jack' is absolutely funky.

Hanging out with the dream king

Hello all, I am surprisingly not dead. Have all my tidbits intact even. You would expect a person who flew 557 miles just to get six books signed by a 'cult' author would lose some of her humane characteristic (a soul perhaps) that she traded with the devil. But I shall disappoint you by proclaiming that I am safe and sound. Apart from all of my savings (The New York(tm) Saving!) I lost nothing (although some people would argue that I lost my sanity, but we have been there before).

Anyway, fancy phrases aside, here's the thing. Neil Gaiman who is a brilliant brillian brilliant author (and a favorite of mine) announced some months ago that he was going to do some signings in Singapore, which is 557 miles from where I live, not to mention overseas (airport tax and shit = US$100+, KACHING!) Parental unit, trying not to spoil me rotten (which was too damn late, HAH!) mentioned that I had to choose between Neil in singapore (for 2 days) OR Nine Inch Nails (OMG-MY-FAV-BAND-EVAR(tm)) in Australia (for 3 weeks). So I told them, NIN no contest. But secretly, I planned as quietly as possibly to go to singapore while Parental Unit was in Europe to visit The Good Daughter (my sister). A friend of mine was staying in singapore with her family at that time, so accomodation was a guarantee (The Ascott Service Apartment, very grand). Cleared my saving, did not go out for ages, did not buy ANY CDs for months, did not pay for drinks, fancy meals etc. I managed to scrape enough money to buy a plane ticket and some money to spend in Singapore. At this point, I was painfully thin, miserable, cold and sickly from Modest Life but I did not care.

By the way, when I had collected some money, my wallet was gone. It was in my room, and my friends were having sleepover there as it happened. This would be another Unsolved Mystery and an Obstacle in the Road to Neil. I came through and it made me stronger.

And finally the day comes for me to bid my sanity farewell and leave for singapore. It was a bright Tuesday morning as I stepped my foot in Singapore. The signing was not until 4, so I dropped my suitcase at the Apartment, did city check-in for my return flight, browse around and finally went to Kinokuniya bookstore at 1.30 to ask some things. Apparently ,the line had already started with around 40 people lining up. I didnt bring my books, so I had to literally run back to the apt, get Marvel 1602, Harlequin Valentine and Sandman: Season of mists and ran back to kinokuniya. It was 2.15 and I started lining. and lining. and lining. I ended up making new friends who were the coolest lot because they were dressing up and were just fun to be with. They got interviewed for various magazines/fanzines/tv, and they mentioned that there was this crazy chick who flew all the way from Indonesia just for this event. And I ended up getting interviewed too as 'the stalker' (Neil should make a character based on me), which was pretty cool.

And then, the signing happened. I didnt have the chance to get starstrucked and did dumb things because everything happened so fast. I ended up buying Creatures of the night and The Books of Magic and get those signed along Season of Mists. I gave neil a postcard of Si Buta dari Gua Hantu (a popular indonesian Graphic Novel) and a pack of javanese jasmine tea (As true british, he's an avid tea drinker). I mentioned that I flew from Indonesia and he looked at me directly to the eyes and said 'Awwww thank you, you are absolutely nice and so sweet' He repeated the 'So sweet' part several times as I gave him the things and HE PAT MY HANDS!!!

He did pat my hands, I swear although you couldn't see it clearly. Damn crappy camera phones. It did not occur to me to POSE with him. How bad was that? But it's ok.

And then The Talk. He read a few tidbits from the upcoming Anansi Boys which were pretty funny and damn good. Then the Q&A section. There were some interesting questions (Yes, he'd do another work with Amano) but it kinda irritated me that some were the ones available in his website's FAQ. Research people! I asked him about the US$500 edition of Neverwhere and American Gods in neilgaiman.net and if he planned on releasing those in a more affordable edition. It's either I didnt make my self too clear, or HE didn't make his answer too clear or I was just simply too starstruck, but he talked about why the cost of those were high. Anyway, I started my question by saying "By the way, I'm wearing a Tori shirt" and some people chuckled at that. He smiled and said "Yeah, I noticed. It's really nice". *Dies*

After the talk, me and my newfound friends went to have dinner and I went back to the apartment. Stay tuned for Episode Two: Attack of Borders

dear world as I know it (ie: NIN fans),
This person is that stupid, she decided not to pre-order With teeth. This person will get her dirty little hands on With Teeth by the time the god that is El-Rezzo has released another album. This person also is very very broke but she is thinking to order With Teeth from bn.com. Along with 10 other CDs. Please give her a kick in the ass, or gift voucher at bn.com. Thank you very much.

In another news, I have been blowing my money on CDs like there's no tomorrow. I did get QOTSA's lullabies to Paralyze with the DVD tho. It's okay, although far inferior compared to their previous work. I am so so skint , I decided to sell my CDs. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

This entry has broken my promise that is not to update unless I came up with sthg productive to say like:
s) I signed up for french class today or
b) I also signed up for gym, because I'm fat and lazy even my underpants dont fit me no more.
c) I have finished my 2nd novel in 2005.
d) I spent this month's allowance on CDs, and I can't even afford to buy a lunch meal.

One and half of them is true and two and half others are the things I wish are true.

addiction

ad·dic·tion

2.
1. The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something.

In my 19 years of life, I've been addicted to some things. Music, internet, nicotine, in that chronological order. No matter what people said, I'm not an alcoholic. Let's talk about the real addictions. I could never give up music. I tried and with the situation at that time, I was so depressed I could gouge my eyes out. I spent my miserable nights crying and having nothing familiar around me and it was horrible. Music has become a friend. A link to my comfort zone, to remind me that it's not always this bad and to help make things more bearable.

Nicotine. God. Let's not talk about the will, attempts and failures, shall we?

Internet. I never tried giving this up. Never thought I could. Internet is another family to me. The people I met online sometimes feel more real than the 'real-life' ones. They're amazing people, and I had a blast meeting two of them in real life and am looking forward to meet another friends in the future. When I had a problem, I switched on the ipod, and then the internet.
I could spend up to 8 hours almost non-stop in front of the computer. Livejournals, some Message Boards.. there's always something to do online. At some point, I ditched out studying for my test and just mindlessly browsing. I am behind with my reading, I stopped writing, I ignored my friends, I dont see my family, I didnt get enough sleep. Just browsing. I always knew that it's not healthy but only recently I have thought about this..

I'm going offline, from LJ and various MBs. Nothing permanent but it will seriously kill me. I will miss you so much. I still have to go online for school works, and ONLY school work. If you need me, it's

namelessxdream at gmail dot com

I shall be back. before the NIN album comes out, of course

Public Post

To clear up some misconception about me. these people would agree that:

I'm a very boring person. I am!
I'm not 'edgy', I'm not 'cool', I'm not trendy nor popular.
I could be VERY sarcastic and mean.

I tend to read a lot. The lack of life would do that to almost anyone
I'm also online a lot, still due to the lack of life.

I'm a Psychology student. What does that tell you about me? Nothing, except that I'm a very stupid person who randomly picked Psychology as her first choice instead of English Lit, which she loved and excelled more.

I love music. And no, I dont listen to some bands, or some genre just to be 'cool'. I could turn into a snob <s>most of the</s> sometimes though. Living in a deprived underdeveloped country would do that.

I am a full blown hypocrite
I cant stand society

<s>Sometimes</s> Most of the times, I feel like a big fish in a small pond (ten points for clever use of quote). Again, living in a butthole of hell would do that.

I'm feeling pretty secure though. That'd explain my overwhelming hostile tendency.

I contradict myself all the time. That doesnt mean I'm a hypocrite. Although I have established earlier that I am in fact, a hypocrite.

I'm a different person than I am in real life.

I'm gonna edit this when I have found the inspiration, and not having to study Statistic, the mother of all evil.

I had seven faces, thought I knew which one to wear
