As I was catching up on my reading list, I read a 2024 article about a photo-sharing app, “Shine”. It’s an interesting story of software product direction that went through setbacks.

Lots to learn from their experience here. Many factors played toward their challenges like unclear product direction and inefficient workflows—two topics that deserve attention by themselves—but what hooked me most was the questionable privacy design and how they ignored employee warnings & consumer feedback.
