A Patient Awareness Workshop on Orofacial <\/strong>Granulomatosis (OFG) & <\/strong>Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)<\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div>

On Monday, 3rd March 2025<\/strong>, we hosted an insightful Patient Awareness Workshop<\/strong> in collaboration with University College London (UCL)<\/strong>, <\/strong>bringing together patients, researchers, and clinicians to discuss Orofacial Granulomatosis (OFG) and its link to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).<\/strong><\/p>

The session featured expert speakers, including Dr. Tathyane Nakajima Teshima<\/strong>, who explored the oral manifestations of IBD, Professor Andrew Smith<\/strong>, who presented research on OFG within the Eastman Dental Institute<\/strong> and discussed environmental factors that can amplify the immune response to bacteria, such as sodium benzoate<\/strong>, which may worsen OFG symptoms. Cindy Weiss and Nina Skorytchenko<\/strong> also shared research on glycan biomarkers<\/strong> for precision medicine. Patients contributed by sharing their experiences, highlighting the need for earlier diagnosis and improved clinical pathways.<\/strong><\/p>
