On Monday, 3rd March 2025, we hosted an insightful Patient Awareness Workshop in collaboration with University College London (UCL), bringing together patients, researchers, and clinicians to discuss Orofacial Granulomatosis (OFG) and its link to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

The session featured expert speakers, including Dr. Tathyane Nakajima Teshima, who explored the oral manifestations of IBD, Professor Andrew Smith, who presented research on OFG within the Eastman Dental Institute and discussed environmental factors that can amplify the immune response to bacteria, such as sodium benzoate, which may worsen OFG symptoms. Cindy Weiss and Nina Skorytchenko also shared research on glycan biomarkers for precision medicine. Patients contributed by sharing their experiences, highlighting the need for earlier diagnosis and improved clinical pathways.
