For those that aren't familiar with Hogwarts or the sorting system, Hufflepuff students are of two things. One, they fit there because they're loyal, just and fair, or two, they don't quite fit into any of the other Hogwarts houses. Tonks seems to be a mixture of these two things.

She's damn courageous, the primary trait chosen to represent the Gryffindor house. The fact that she's an auror should be reason enough to come to this conclusion, but that's not all there is to it. In addition to working for the Ministry of Magic to hunt down dark wizards, she's also a member of the secret group known as the Order of the Phoenix, an underground team formed to combat Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters as well as protect Harry Potter, the Chosen One and whatever. She willingly serves the Order, not only as a fighter, but as a spy in the Ministry, a very dangerous task indeed.

Like many of Ravenclaw, she's smart and skilled, talented enough to earn high OWLs and NEWTs to qualify for auror training, an extra three years of lessons after graduating Hogwarts. Creativity isn't far from her grasp either, though its use is implied rather than shown, as her Metamorphmagus abilities aren't utilized much within the series due to the books being in Harry's point of view.

Slytherin is known for its ambition and resourcefulness, traits that Tonks also possesses. Deciding to become an auror is a very, well, ambitious career choice, since the skills required are many. Adding in the resourcefulness needed to survive the bad situations aurors find themselves in, she does fit this house a little.

However, she was a Hufflepuff. A big trait that represents her is her loyalty to, not only Dumbledore and the Order, but to her family (the sane ones) and friends. She sticks with them despite the increasing danger, even literally fighting to the death to defend Hogwarts and Harry from the Death Eaters and their allies.

While she does encompass some of each house, there's a lot more to her than can be defined by a sorting. Tonks is energetic, enthusiastic, and friendly. She's comfortable around strangers and people she's just met, easily able to start a conversation with someone, and finish it herself if she needs to with no offense taken. Her sense of humor is greatly present, even when it's time for business. For her, there's no harm in a little fun, especially in dark times. She's clumsy as well, sometimes tripping over things or knocking things over. As stated by Tonks herself, she almost failed her stealth and tacking exam to become an auror, and it's pretty obvious why. She doesn't let it get her down, though, since she's able to laugh about it and move on with her job.

The young auror is also very stubborn, not willing to back down from something (or someone) she finds important. A prime example is, not only the Order, but one of its members, Remus Lupin. At some point, she falls in love with him, and despite his constant attempts to have her give up due to his lycanthropy, she persists. Eventually, the two are a couple. It doesn't come without its downsides, though. During the rejection period, Tonks loses control of her Metamorphmagus abilities, and she's unable to shift or change her hair color or anything. This shows, that while she is a strong person, she does have vulnerabilities as well, as power loss only occurs during emotional upheaval. Her was so great that her Patronus changed form as well, something that doesn't happen very often.

Overall, Tonks is a very diverse person, able to take what comes her way, but not always without problems. Like most people, she has her ups and downs, but she does her best to overcome them for the better.

ABILITIES:

⇏ Magic: Tonks, like all wizards in Harry Potter, is capable of casting magical spells with a wand, whether spoken aloud, or, in the case of more advanced spellcasters, nonverbally. These range from charms and transfigurations to dark curses and horrible hexes (not that she'd actually do anything too nasty). She's also able to Apparate, meaning vanish from one spot and appear in another, basically like teleportation.

⇏ Metamorphmagus: As a metamorphmagus, a very rare thing in the wizarding world, she can alter her appearance at will, such as changing her hair length and color, her body shape and size, how old she appears, etc. It's unknown if she can change gender, but for the sake of not overstepping, I'm going to say no. She's also unable to turn into a complete animal form, but something like a nose wouldn't be a problem.

⇏ Flying (broom): Tonks is a pretty capable flyer on a broom, too!

POSSESSIONS:

⇏ The clothes and shoes she has on
⇏ Her wand
⇏ ... that's it

samples.
JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE:

Herp Derp

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:

Tonks ducked and rolled, narrowly avoiding some sort of olive colored spell aimed in her direction. One arm came up over her head to shield face from debris while the other maneuvered her wand skillfully, shooting two spells back in the direction the previous one had come from. She was rewarded with a shriek of pain, hopefully from an incapacitated dark wizard. If anything, it should have been enough to buy her a little time to get out of the fray and regain her bearings.

It was funny, though, the young auror knew. Most of the time, her head was a jumble of thoughts ranging from breakfast to brooms to bookcases (she needed a new one), but when she was in the thick of battle or the midst of a very dangerous mission, her mind was as clear as the summer sky, occasional rain not withstanding. Something about the rush of the moment shoved everything else aside in favor of, dare she admit it, the thrill of it all. Of course, surviving was a top priority, too, but just knowing her life was at risk that very second--

CRACK!

She whirled around, instinctively throwing up a wordless shield charm just in time to reflect a well aimed curse. Off it went, slamming into a stone fixture or even a wall, Tonks wasn't sure. She did recognize the sound of rock splitting, though, as well as the fact that she needed to hurry and get out of there.

With a light string of swears under her breath, the witch pointed her wand at the chandelier high up in the arched ceiling, sending a jinx to sever whatever was holding it up, hoping it wasn't a spell of some sort. If it wasn't, she'd count herself lucky no one else had tried anything yet, and sure enough, down it went.

Hopefully, the rest of the fight would go this well, too.
