Dr. Chelsy Hooper, Instructional Technology Coordinator, AU Libraries, Innovation & Research Commons, hooperc@auburn.edu
Q: Where are you/ your campus in your digital literacy story?
- All of our campus (students/ faculty/staff) has access to Adobe Express and/or Adobe Creative Cloud
- Parts of our campus have access to Adobe Express and/or Adobe Creative Cloud
- We are inquiring about types of access and are here to learn more, or we are here to explore additional ways of supporting digital literacy across campus
Why
University students experience a knowledge gap when using unfamiliar software applications without the benefit of direct instruction and support. Information literacy skills include software knowledge / digital literacy, and libraries are a primary resource where students can receive this assistance. Libraries assist with the implementation of information literacy across disciplines, including software knowledge/ digital literacy. The program described in this presentation falls within the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, namely, Information Creation as a Process, as students are directly taught how to use software applications to create new types of information products.
- consumers to creators
- workforce skills - AI-enabled, responsible use
- synthesis, creative and critical thinking
What
Auburn University has advanced the digital and AI literacy of its students through equitable access to software and hybrid learning opportunities with the Adobe Creative Campus initiative. Support provided by the Innovation & Research Commons of Auburn Libraries (Adobe Creative Space) increased students’ skill sets via ongoing, programmatic hybrid workshops, instructional sessions with faculty and students, hybrid help desk peer support from diverse student employees, and outreach and partnerships across campus and beyond.

Comments
I found Express very interesting and far more user friendly than Canva, which I had been previously using for any graphic designs I needed. I enjoyed learning about the AI features within it, and I am excited to put those to use!
The quality of video submissions improved dramatically with your workshop last semester. It was also great to have students learn about the resources available through this workshop.
Thank you once again for taking the time to visit the Student Athlete Development Center and share your expertise. I’m confident my Strategist team will be eagerly discussing the applications you highlighted by Monday morning!
What are some ways you can promote digital / AI literacy on your campus?
