  • This week marked the first time in Coeliac Australia's 45 years as Australia's national peak body that we brought the voices of lived experience, medical professionals and ambassadors to the heart of Federal Parliament.   Why government? Why now?   We went to Canberra with a simple but urgent message: Flip the ratio. One in 70 Australians live with coeliac disease, yet only 20% are diagnosed. That means more than 300,000 Australians are living with unanswered questions about their health, burdened by a condition they may not even know exists.   For 45 years, the generosity of our members, health professionals, volunteers, partners and supporters has powered our advocacy, research and accreditation work. Now is the time to partner with government so we can help more Australians find answers, sooner.   Every timely diagnosis strengthens our community. By helping more Australians find the answers that many of us waited years to receive, our collective voice grows, helping shape better healthcare, stronger policy and a better future for everyone living with coeliac disease.   Coeliac Australia exists because of your voices. Our journey with government is only just beginning, and we will continue to ensure those voices are heard where decisions are made.   This will not be our last visit to Parliament.   If you are living with coeliac disease, supporting someone who is, or still searching for answers, now is the time to stay connected with Coeliac Australia. Every voice strengthens our voice.   Thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we can help more Australians find answers and flip the ratio.  #FlipTheRatio #CoeliacAustralia #CoeliacDisease #EarlierDiagnosis #HealthEquity

Today I’m travelling to Canberra, not in my Speedos this time but with a purpose far greater than sport. I’m incredibly proud to stand alongside Coeliac Australia as an Ambassador, joining an important delegation at Parliament House to advocate for greater awareness, support and funding for Australians living with coeliac disease. As someone living with coeliac disease, I understand firsthand the daily challenges that come with managing an autoimmune condition that impacts far more people than many realise. The statistics are confronting. Around 80% of Australians with coeliac disease remain undiagnosed, while gluten free food continues to carry a significantly higher cost burden for individuals and families already navigating complex health challenges. Today is about ensuring those lived experiences are heard where decisions are made. Advocacy matters, Representation matters & real progress happens when communities come together with a shared purpose and use their collective voice to create meaningful change. This issue affects my own family, including my son Billy and father-in-law Rod, along with millions of others around the world navigating life with coeliac disease every day. I’m proud to use my platform beyond sport and business to help contribute to conversations that can improve lives. Because one voice matters… but together, our voices create momentum!!! #Leadership #Advocacy #HealthAwareness #CoeliacDisease #CommunityImpact #olympian #motivationalspeaker #ambassador

  • This EOFY, your tax-deductible donation does more than balance the books - it funds life-changing medical research.    Every year, thousands of Australian children go undiagnosed with coeliac disease, facing long-term health risks that could be prevented with early intervention. At Coeliac Australia, we are working to change the future of pediatric health through critical childhood coeliac screening research.   But we can’t do it alone.   As we approach the June 30 deadline, business leaders and professionals have a unique opportunity to make a tangible social impact. A tax-deductible contribution to our 2026 Tax Appeal directly accelerates screening programs, ensuring children like Arrabella (pictured) get the early diagnosis and support they deserve.   Why partner with us this EOFY? Direct impact: Campaign proceeds fund vital, evidence-based screening research. Tax efficiency: All donations over $2 are fully tax-deductible for this financial year. Corporate responsibility: Align your professional or corporate giving with a national health priority. The clock is ticking on the financial year. Let’s invest in a healthier future together.   Make your tax-deductible impact before June 30: #CorporateSocialResponsibility #EOFY2026 #MedicalResearch #CoeliacAwareness #HealthAdvocacy #TaxAppeal2026

  • Did you know that around 80% of people with coeliac disease are still undiagnosed? Coeliac Australia launched a free online Self-Assessment tool in 2017 to help Aussies check for symptoms and get on track towards a diagnosis. This tool has become a vital resource, making it easier for our community to take the first step in managing their health. Coeliac disease often runs in families – if you have a first-degree relative with the condition, your chance of developing it jumps by 10%. Early screening is crucial, especially with a family history, as it can lead to better long-term health outcomes. Coeliac disease isn’t just about gut symptoms; it can also affect bones, joints, growth, energy, and even increase the risk of certain cancers. If any of this sounds familiar to you or someone you know, now’s the time to act. Check the signs, take our quick two-minute self-assessment quiz (https://lnkd.in/gtVYY2kg), and chat to your GP – just ask, “Could it be coeliac disease?” Early detection can make all the difference. #CoeliacAustralia #GutHealth #ParentingAU #HealthyLiving #GlutenFreeAustralia #InTheFamily #GFCommunity #45Years

  • Today, for National Volunteer Week, we are celebrating the incredible individuals who dedicate their time to making our community stronger. 💛 From supporting our Expos to raising awareness in regional groups, our volunteers are the backbone of what we do. We want to make a special mention of two outstanding long-time volunteers, Alan Cocks and Sue. Every single week, Alan and Sue step into the Coeliac Australia office to lend their hands and hearts to the cause. They are wonderful people, and our organisation is so much richer for having them on our team. To Alan, Sue, and all our incredible volunteers across Australia helping to connect, support, and empower the gluten-free community - thank you. We quite literally couldn't do it without you. Want to join our amazing volunteer family? We’d love to have you! Reach out to us at volunteer@coeliac.org.au to find out how you can get involved. #NationalVolunteerWeek #NVW2026 #VolunteeringAustralia #NonProfit #CoeliacAustralia #CommunityImpact #ThankYou

  • Coeliac Australia is pleased to share our CEO’s message on International Coeliac Disease Awareness Day, reflecting progress from the FAO/World Health Organization Codex Alimentarius Commission’s Committee on Food Labelling (#CCFL49) on precautionary allergen labelling. We acknowledge and thank our members, donors and partners whose support enables Coeliac Australia to contribute to national and international engagement on behalf of the coeliac community. #InternationalCoeliacDiseaseAwarenessDay #CoeliacDisease #Codex #StrongerTogether

Today, on International Coeliac Disease Awareness Day, I am pleased to share progress from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) Codex Alimentarius Commission’s Committee on Food Labelling (CCFL49) on global guidance for precautionary allergen labelling. CCFL49 has taken an important step, following several years of international collaboration, to strengthen consistency in how allergen and gluten risk is communicated through food labelling. In simple terms, this work supports clearer and more consistent food labelling for people living with coeliac disease across countries. A key development is the inclusion of a gluten reference dose within the precautionary allergen labelling framework. The guidance also recognises that coeliac disease must be considered separately from IgE-mediated food allergy, enabling a more structured, risk-based approach to labelling decisions. This work has been undertaken through FAO/WHO Codex processes involving regulators, scientists, industry and patient organisations across multiple countries. Over the past year, Coeliac Australia has been consulted as part of the broader international engagement in this process. I would also like to acknowledge Australian contributions to this work, including A/Prof Jason Tye-Din and Jasmine Lacis-Lee in their international roles, and our Lead Dietitian, Dr Kim Faulkner-Hogg, PhD, Adv APD, for her technical expertise and contribution. I am grateful for the engagement with international peers and the constructive exchange of diverse perspectives throughout these discussions. The next phase will focus on implementation and how Codex guidance is adopted and applied within national regulatory systems. International collaboration matters because people living with coeliac disease deserve confidence in the safety and clarity of their food, wherever they are in the world. #InternationalCoeliacDiseaseAwarenessDay #CoeliacDisease #FAO #WHO #Codex #CCFL49 #FoodLabelling #FoodSafety #PAL #GlutenFree #PatientAdvocacy #StrongerTogether

  • Early diagnosis is CRUCIAL for children with #CoeliacDisease. At Coeliac Australia, we are launching our 2026 Tax Appeal to fund critical research into childhood screening. By identifying the condition earlier, we can move toward a preventative approach that protects the long-term health of the next generation. Join us in investing in this essential evidence-based advocacy. Support the research here https://lnkd.in/g5-ZNxxY #MedicalResearch #HealthAdvocacy #EvidenceBased #EarlyDiagnosis #EOFY2026
