The Economy’s Plague

>

As the Corona pest becomes a psychological pandemic as well, many feel panic over how the alleged panic of others is disrupting “the economy”. We see how many even among erstwhile dissidents suddenly want to run home to ecocidal economic mama.

But if the economy wasn’t based 100% upon destruction and disaster, including all the just-in-time tightropes it deliberately walks at all times, including all “outsourcing” and deliberate eradication of all regional self-sufficiency, it wouldn’t be so vulnerable even to severe crises.

Propagandists and their apes cite FDR’s warning against falling prey to “fear itself.”

But the pandemic is causing only a portion of the ambient fear-itself. The great majority of it was already free-floating and now is being concentrated by this pest. That includes all the anxiety constantly generated by the ecocidal commodity economy.

Many fear a non-linear totalitarian jump in police state powers stemming from the alleged need for forcible quarantine, lockdown, martial law, a much greater leap even than the government’s cynical manipulation of 9/11 to vastly increase the scope of its aggressive militarism, surveillance state and police regime.

Everyone should indeed fear this. But it’s what they all support at every turn, all ultimately for the sake of the commodity Mammon economy.

There’s a famous quote from Ben Franklin which is often cited and almost always in a misguided way: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” This is often paraphrased using “freedom” and “security” instead, no matter. The gist is that people are willing to give up real freedom in exchange for a very false sense of safety. This is certainly true as far as it goes.

But in reality it doesn’t go far since today neither freedom nor security mean anything compared to economic consumption, producing and consuming worthless junk, being as destructive and wasteful as possible, and the fundamentalist religious worship of “the economy” as such. Almost all Western or Westernized peoples willingly, eagerly throw away all freedom and security for the ecocidal economy’s sake.

Nothing is more enslaving and self-enslaving, more antithetical to all freedom (except the Sodom and Gomorrah license of the rich, which isn’t freedom either – none of them ever looks free to stop accumulating, stop at vastly more than Enough, go be happy and enjoy life), than the economic death march.

The economy is the source of the Coronavirus pandemic in the first place, and it is the cause of all the death and travail that comes from this pest. The pest and its effects, including any economic disruption up to and including collapse, is a blow purely self-inflicted by a civilization at war with its own biological basis, including waging war on its own people. The pest arose either from a US bioweapon experiment/attack, or it is a pandemic arising from the economics of globalization (deforestation, factory agriculture, cramming masses into slums and shantytowns, the demolition of all public health systems and all decent access to decent health care except for the rich). The system is deploying every kind of scapegoating in its try to cover up its complete culpability while trying to continue with Business As Usual as much as is politically or physically possible.

They scapegoat individuals who their system deliberately has deprived of accurate and truthful information (about this pest and about everything else, going back as far as anyone alive can remember), those they deliberately have deprived of all sense of stability and security and community sufficiency and resilience (again going back as far as we can recall), scapegoat them for giving in to fear (which is a manifestation of the ideology of capitalist-liberal individualism into which they all were indoctrinated).

They scapegoat people for behaving exactly the way the elites of the economic society normally want them to behave, the elites which long have expended such massive resources to indoctrinate and propagandize the people into exactly such behavior, they scapegoat them now that we’ve reached a crisis where this behavior boomerangs on the slave economy itself.

If you must insist on weeping for the plight of the economy, at least put the blame where it belongs, 100% on the elites. No amount of panic (and none of us knows at this early date what really constitutes panic, as opposed to prudence) on the part of the people could exceed the bounds of the mass-psychological atmosphere the elites of the economic civilization deliberately have instilled in these masses, who this economy deliberately atomized in the first place.

Having said that, people should not panic. The reason is not because this can aggravate the disruption of the economy which is so grossly disrupting itself, but for their own psychological sake and practical resiliency. (The same reason for personal energy conservation – not because this will lower by one BTU’s worth the amount of fossil fuels the economic civilization will extract and burn, or that it will stave off even one part per million of rise in atmospheric carbon concentration, but for reasons of personal psychological health and practical reasons of personal, family, community resiliency.)

It’s this social/cultural/economic system which has destroyed community and family, atomized everyone, driven the modern pandemic of anomie, anxiety and despair. People who feel so demoralized in turn are more vulnerable to physical illness, just as people who are part of an intact, mutually responsible and reinforcing social group feel better psychologically and physically are less vulnerable.

Now more than ever we need to rebuild real community, relocalize how we produce what we need and truly want, rebuild food sovereignty, community food security, a renewed way of living with and in the land rather than as parasite squatters on its surface.

Such squatters are the most vulnerable to every extreme wind, howling from the economy itself such as crashing oil prices, from the climate crisis, from the pandemics driven by the globalization and ecocide inherent to the economic civilization. Those who live by this economy shortly shall die of it. If the Corona pest turns out not to be the Big One, it’s yet another shot across the bow, a last warning before this imminent advent.

“The Fire is in the Minds of the People”

>

(Title quote from Dostoevsky’s The Possessed.)

It is climate/weather with extreme conditions of drought, low humidity, high temps and high winds, not fuels, that is responsible for all large wildfires. I have not seen a single exception.

“Topography and fuels do influence blazes, but if you don’t have the right weather conditions, ignitions do not blow up into huge conflagrations.

“In the case of Paradise, as well as in many other large fires I’ve visited over the years, “fuel reductions” failed in the face of extreme fire weather. In a sense, the continued advocacy for “fuel reductions” by various public agencies, forestry schools, collaboratives, and the like is delusional, and borders on maleficence since it lulls communities into believing if they only cut enough trees and brush, they won’t have to worry about wildfire.”

It is malefic because they say, “If you give us license to log as we see fit, you can continue with business as usual with less fear of fire.”

That’s a direct lie which dovetails perfectly with the mass psychological imperative sense that Business As Usual, such as extreme commodity logging, must continue.

Indeed, Business As Usual as a whole is dependent upon business as usual for each significant part, such as logging.

The more the specters of the climate crisis, the wholesale poisoning of humanity’s food and water, or pandemic threats like the Coronavirus threaten to shut down the economic machine, the more stubbornly the mass of atoms will double down on denial and take refuge in the most idiotic, long refuted lies.

So in any context what they really want is any kind of lie which lets them believe they can fix any problem while continuing Business As Usual.

The climate-industrial movement and its “Green New Deal” vision of capitalist utopia comprise the biggest, most encompassing lie: “If we make a few minor tweaks to Business As Usual as a whole, we can continue Business As Usual with no fear of global heating and climate chaos.”

And so to circle back to industrial logging, putting it in this perspective:

1. Climate change, through escalating heat, drought, dryness and high winds, is driving ever greater fire. The science is unanimous, where it comes to wildfire the climate and weather trump all.

2. Logging corporations and their kept government agencies join hands with climate deniers to find scapegoats and invent lies, all toward the lie that “thinning” (logging) is an anti-fire action when it really makes fires more common and worse. They propagate their campaign of lies in order to claim that not only mustn’t they stop, they must escalate Business As Usual.

Ecocide and disaster capitalism always come together to form this escalating feedback loop and will continue to do so until they collapse completely.

3. In the meantime their lies are believed or tolerated since almost everyone, including the mainstream “environmental movement”, really wants Business As Usual to continue.

More profoundly, they believe on the level of fundamentalist religion that the economic civilization must continue and escalate.

Thus it’s not just ironic, but in a deep sense appropriate, that the last great disaster capitalist blow-out is going to be precisely the green-capitalist binge, “Green New Deal”, fake environmentalism’s obscene proposal to keep raping the Earth in the very name of saving it.

Super-Elections

>

Your electric cars will fare no better in the desert they help bring

I no longer think there will be alternatives within the system. In principle it remains true that the people could change their consciousness and rise up with a great movement against the commerce-based society, not to “repair” it or save it from itself but for the sake of a truly human vision and value system, as well as for the sake of saving themselves in the most biological sense since this system promises nothing to human beings but mass death.

In principle that remains true, but in practice there’s zero evidence it will happen, or that such a movement visibly ever will exist at all. For example most Americans, as proven by their vote and other actions, are hostile toward Medicare for All, something which can be enacted within this system at will, which faces zero physical or economic obstacles but exclusively political and psychological ones, which would significantly improve the lives of almost all Americans, and which is an absolute necessity if the coming big pandemics are to have their impact blunted at all.

(Such things are meant to save the economic society from its own self-destructive extremes. Measures like Medicare for All probably could extend the lifespan of the ecocidal economy and empire for a few years. They can’t overcome its overall radical impetus toward complete self-destruction. That can’t be done within the inherently self-destructive framework.)

The reason for this hostility is denial about the viability of the economic system itself. The 2020 election is an existential referendum, a referendum on to be or not to be.

Sanders is part of the capitalist faction which publicly implies that not-to-be is possible and advocates limited measures to reform and shore up the system, such as Medicare for All and a “Green New Deal”, in order to postpone the self-destruction of the system.

When voters vote against these measures by voting Republican or for the corporate Democrats, they really express denial that not-to-be is possible. Therefore they vote to make the destruction and self-destruction as total as possible. Thus they vote effectively Not to Be.

In a purely Darwinian sense, in terms of the most straight physical self-preservation within this system, one’s position on Medicare for All is a litmus test. If the great majority of Americans remain hostile toward even this modest measure, what prospect is there of the much greater sea change required to take the much broader perspective against the murderous and collectively suicidal economic society as such.

Previously I thought only Sanders could beat Trump barring some wild card. Then it seemed the Corona pandemic might be this wild card. Trump has looked utterly incapable of dealing with it, even on a demagogic level. Now it looked like a regular corporate Democrat able to talk a good game about the pandemic could beat Trump.

This is part of the explanation for the resurgence of the clearly senile Biden. While nobody would reject Biden on moral grounds of his evil, since the voters themselves are evil or don’t care about evil, it seemed like they might reject him on the grounds that he’s clearly in a state of dementia. Throughout history people have been willing to tolerate great tyranny and evil in their rulers as long as they perceived these leaders to be reasonably intelligent and competent, while inescapable perception of tyrannical stupidity and incompetence can bring on a revolutionary situation.

If Sanders looked more reasonable than his Democratic comrades or Trump, that was an attraction, just as the Democrats other than Sanders have looked more stupid than Trump. But if the pandemic perspective says Trump is now even more stupid than the corporate Democrats, while Sanders stands for Medicare for All and other “reforms” which challenge voter denial and are reviled by the corporate Democrats, this makes even Biden look relatively attractive to a larger number than before.

But there’s more here. Prior to one’s sense of the Sword of Damocles dangling over the economic civilization as a whole, there’s the immediate terror of the pandemic. Here if nowhere else, Medicare for All is resounding an alarm. Here the voters’ best chance for literal survival is at stake. There can be no more potent institutional barrier to the march of a virus than people being free to go to a doctor and to stay home when they’re sick, while the destruction of this freedom lays bare the whole invasion plain. Nothing else the US government could do, short of full-scale quarantines and shootings, can make a difference.

If even under conditions of this imminent extremity the people still vote against the reform faction (this includes tolerating the Democrat Party stealing the nomination from Sanders, the way his “movement” bowed and knelt in 2016), the denial must run much deeper and more viscerally. It can mean only the psychological will to deny the pandemic itself. This denial is the real force regardless of whether a person has conscious “right thinking” or not. It’s the same as where someone consciously “believes in” the climate crisis and calls for fake solutions like Green New Deals but really wants, does, supports, votes for nothing but Business as Usual. The only difference is that the pandemic-denying mental patient recovers from cognitive dissonance at the expense of running a much greater, more immediate risk of personal death, since for most people and especially Americans the pandemic is a more immediate threat than climate chaos and global heating.

Therefore it seems the voters are doubling down on denial by combining their existing hostility to Medicare for All and everything it stands for, with denial that a massively lethal pandemic is at hand. (If COVID-19 turns out not to be the Big One, it’s still only a matter of time.)

In that case, Trump’s denial strategy will become the right one. If the pandemic is gradual enough over the 2020 span that the election can be held at all, and the election is denial vs. denial, Trump again will win. The Dembots already have signaled.

The US and Western societies in general will hunker in the bunker exactly like Hitler in 1945, seeking only to drag out that mode of existence and destroy as much of the Earth as possible in the time remaining while destroying as much as they can any potential for any human future. They’ll do that until they collapse out of their own physical impossibilities (finite resources, Earth’s capacity to sustain total environmental insult, an economic and mass-psychological system 100% dependent on both of these) or destroy themselves in an acute spasm, most likely a pandemic or nuclear war.

By now the fake elections have found their terminal register, denial. The voters vote in order to deny. This is the purpose of this ritual of civic religion. They vote to make the destruction and self-destruction as total as possible. They vote Not to Be. This is where modern electoral democracy always was heading.

This vote for collective suicide is part of the economic civilization’s onslaught of total ecocide. It was always a kamikaze suicide ride. Electoral politics can and will do nothing but go along for this ride, accelerating it wherever possible.

Political Ecology of Physical Ecocide

>

A political campaign is not a movement. Only an enduring, coherent cultural and spiritual-psychological movement which is a permanent way of life at least for its more committed members can expect to be able to extrude a self-sustaining political movement that can sustain any level of integrity.

Beyond this common error, the greatest confusion is over the fact that for the duration of this system every institution is absolutely, irrevocably committed to maximum disorder, maximal ecocide unto collective suicide, and therefore significant reform of this system is impossible. This is existential and is prior to any actions by the system to co-opt or suppress attempts to reform it.

The economic civilization, especially US society as the most extreme consummation of it, is irretrievably committed to maximum production, consumption, waste, destruction. It couldn’t ameliorate itself even if it wanted to, which it demonstrably does not. For a showcase example look at how the impresarios of the “Green New Deal” are explicit that they want to save the economy, NOT the Earth. They want to save capitalism from itself, save productionism from itself, save the economic civilization from itself, most of all sustain the production and consumption of Extreme Energy for industrial, commercial, economic purposes. All the Leaders and professional cadres of the climate-industrial movement are explicit about this.

That’s just one example. Whether Bernie Sanders consciously wants to be Senator F-35 or feels “forced” to be makes zero difference, is another typical example. There will be no mitigation for the duration of this system’s existence.

We can renounce the doomed ecocidal/collective-suicidal system, we can try to build movements to prepare ark communities based on regional food sovereignty and conserving as much as possible of the regional ecology, and similar projects, we can work to help accelerate the system’s self-destruction. Those are meaningful movement options.

Or, one can remain within the status quo: Inherently anti-democratic, soul-killing, steadily liquidating everyone but the 1%, collectively suicidal, and 100% fake for the duration. In that case, fake-electoral “politics” is nothing but another superficial circus for the volunteer participants (for example partisans of any system party) and for the audience.

In the end, this is all simple ignorance of ecology.

The Fire’s Halo

<

It’s very interesting to see a top-tier economic government evidently choosing quarantine for the public health over the economic imperative.

That in itself is strong circumstantial evidence that the Chinese government knows or suspects this was a US biological attack. If it had been a Chinese bioweapon screw-up or had arisen from the economy* (commodity food production from factory animals, commodity distribution toward global chains, habitat destruction and economic penetration), they likely wouldn’t be so openly draconian in their response.

Maybe China’s calculation is that if the war has reached this level, if the US biological warfare campaign has become an acute enough threat, then it’s finally time to strike back in an economically existential way by crashing the global economy and in the process directly destroy the dollar hegemony.

This would not be China’s action, but would proceed logically from the US action. The US imperial position is 100% responsible for its acts of destruction and self-destruction via the blowback it provokes.

In the same way the US calculated the timing of its strike (the Chinese New Year), so the perfect time to strike back with economic destruction is during this election year 2020 when the US mass psychological derangement is likely to reach a new peak. It won’t take much more energy being pumped into the turbulence to send the US into full-blown berserk mode.

There’s long been a Mutually Assured Destruction doctrine for the globalized economy, but then in the early 20th century that’s what many believed about European economic integration: It “proved” there could be no general European war.

They were right to an extent – such integration is inertial against war. But as 1914 proved, they were wrong about the economic factor being all-powerful. The same is true today.

*Short of an asteroid impact there’s no longer such a thing as “natural” disasters. All disasters are completely caused (almost all of them) or tremendously magnified by the economic system.

Bio and Techno Wars

>

*The Coronavirus is the latest combination of the primal struggle of virus and human, with the struggle of human vs. human, more recently updated with the highest-maintenance technology.

*The main difference between the real world technosphere, an emergent collective artificial organism, an anti-Gaia, and Skynet as envisioned by Philip K. Dick and the Terminator films is that the technosphere is not sentient in the sense most people would use that term while Skynet is the consummation of sentient Artificial Intelligence as fantasized by the scientism cult.

Skynet, capable of sustaining itself, from its point of view correctly diagnoses the existence of humans as a parasite infestation which should be eradicated. The technosphere has made no sentient diagnosis but has gone a long way toward putting this same policy into empirical effect as humans continue to escalate their self-enslavement to technology and accelerate their use of it for individually and collectively suicidal actions.

*The technosphere has formed a de facto alliance with a panoply of biological pathogens: Bacteria such as A. tumefaciens, salmonella, botulins, every kind of antibiotic resistant strain; similarly privileged viruses, especially those which have been artificially weaponized in laboratories; pesticide resistant insects, herbicide resistant weeds; monoculture-, poison-, machine-oriented bred crop varieties such as maize, wheat, tomatoes and some other machinable vegetable varieties, including the genetically engineered escalation of this breeding; rats, mice, cockroaches, other animals called “vermin”.

As a whole, the industrial agriculture portion of the technosphere comprises a radical assault on physical habitats, environmental quality, biodiversity, the tissue and hormonal health of individual living things, the climate, and most of nature’s genetic codes.

Other portions of the technosphere are embarked upon similar massive assaults along the same ecocidal front.

*In the same way Satan and his demons can operate only with God’s consent and according to God’s plan, so every aspect of the hominid orc rampage, along with the monocultural pathogens the economic civilization serves to maximize, including the technosphere itself which after all is a petty extrusion amid Gaia’s emergent processes of Deep Time, Deep Ecology; all this is Gaia’s mechanism for fighting the infestation by first rendering the linchpin pathogen insane.

Those who Gaia would destroy she first makes insane. Thus she works to destroy the destroyers of the Earth.

*All the political, economic, religious reasons humans find to kill one another are epiphenomenal. Underlying it all is one biological war which humans of the Mammon civilization wage against the Earth, and therefore ultimately against themselves.

The Desert City

>

I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast. People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?” The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise authority for forty-two months. It opened its mouth to blaspheme God and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast. Whoever has ears, let them hear: “If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.” This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.

The Green Man sings of the desert. Lowering his voice to a gaunt chant he evokes images of cities rising from the sterile desert, the desert as graveyard and someday resurrection. He promises a phoenix dawn. You must go to the desert, you must find the desert where you are, build the desert, heat and dry and burn to bring the desert. You must hack and chop and butcher and slaughter. You become the soul of the eternal city, you bring the image of the city floating in mid-air, the image wavering over the sterile desert.

The screen spans the wall evoking a desert, while the images from the screen and the fire in the minds of the viewers meld to bring holograms of desert towers, desert temples, skyscrapers, silos, desert armies, missiles, desert flames surging to the skies, hovering and wavering in mid-air projection of the inflamed brain.

The Green Man tells of the destroyers of the Earth, the great producers, the great bringers. They bring the sterile desert. And the massed people, the great consumers, unto the desert and then of the desert. They won’t be assimilated after death, but the great dessication they set in motion shall preserve their physical bodies, they shall live eternal mummies, the worshiped ancestors.

But only the elite destroyers, the great Leaders of the Desert will be worshiped, and the rest of your mummies will be tossed away as waste. But you shall be honored nameless as having perpetrated the great death and then destructed the great Necropolis.

This is the Green Man’s word on the climate in flames, climate searing and seared, charred and charring, driving the heat, driving the chaos, creeping always toward the dry, always toward the fire, always toward the desert.

I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago. The general tension was horrible. To a season of political and social upheaval was added a strange and brooding apprehension of hideous physical danger; a danger widespread and all-embracing, such a danger as may be imagined only in the most terrible phantasms of the night. I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places. There was a daemoniac alteration in the sequence of the seasons—the autumn heat lingered fearsomely, and everyone felt that the world and perhaps the universe had passed from the control of known gods or forces to that of gods or forces which were unknown.

Then I saw a second beast come across the earth.

It was then that Nyarlathotep came out of Egypt. Who he was, none could tell, but he was of the old native blood and looked like a Pharaoh.

He exercises all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and causes the earth and its inhabitants to worship the first beast whose fatal wound had been healed.

The fellahin knelt when they saw him, yet could not say why. He said he had risen up out of the blackness of twenty-seven centuries, and that he had heard messages from places not on this planet. Into the lands of civilization came Nyarlathotep, swarthy, slender, and sinister, always buying strange instruments of glass and metal and combining them into instruments yet stranger. He spoke much of the sciences — of electricity and psychology — and gave exhibitions of power which sent his spectators away speechless, yet which swelled his fame to exceeding magnitude.

He performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people. With these signs he is given power to perform on behalf of the first beast. He orders the inhabitants of the earth to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

Men advised one another to see Nyarlathotep, and shuddered. And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished; for the small hours were rent with the screams of nightmare. Never before had the screams of nightmare been such a public problem; now the wise men almost wished they could forbid sleep in the small hours, that the shrieks of cities might less horribly disturb the pale, pitying moon as it glimmered on green waters gliding under bridges, and old steeples crumbling against a sickly sky.

The Green Man has conjured the images of cultural and political movement. Before most of the people became aware of the crisis the chains had been slapped on and all possible motions were collapsed to one, always forward march toward an image of water and green shimmering amid the hazes. Those who could squint their burning eyes now and then enough to clear the haze were sure they saw infinite desert. But this caused no moment of doubt or reflection, for the haze and shimmer immediately would return. More, the image of desert did not repel, only further led them to stagger on. The image went deep because the infinite dead desert is the one and only true faith of the atoms of the mass. And if anyone could think for a moment that the green watery shimmer might be a mirage hovering over salted sands, this too only deepened the allure of the desert.

The Green Man projects images to be twirled by the priests of fire who dream fevers that will engineer the sky and sea on behalf of the beast, engineer the living flesh to fuel the furnace of the beast, inflame the holocaust to explode the beast’s voice into space where it sends men’s nightmares hurtling toward another planet to destroy. These beasts and their priesthood wear the robes of fire and heat as their emblem of the gods of desert aflame.

The second beast is given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refuse to worship the image to be killed. He forces all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they have the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

I remember when Nyarlathotep came to my city—the great, the old, the terrible city of unnumbered crimes. My friend had told me of him, and of the impelling fascination and allurement of his revelations, and I burned with eagerness to explore his uttermost mysteries. My friend said they were horrible and impressive beyond my most fevered imaginings; that what was thrown on a screen in the darkened room prophesied things none but Nyarlathotep dared prophesy, and that in the sputter of his sparks there was taken from men that which had never been taken before yet which shewed only in the eyes. And I heard it hinted abroad that those who knew Nyarlathotep looked on sights which others saw not.

The masses sense the self-destruction of their onslaught. They know they can’t be sustained much longer. They sense the coming earthquake. Already they fancy they feel the surge. They feel the ground shake under their feet.

They desecrate their souls to redoubled commitment to the Extreme Energy civilization: Dominion promised by ancient faiths of Abraham, Dominion promised by the modern priests of fire who also still sacrifice at the ancient altar, Dominion of infinite Production as God, Dominion of infinite Consumption and Waste, Dominion of Destruction, Dominion of Mammon, Dominion of Progress, Long Live Death.

They fight through nightmares to believe everything happening is natural and sustainable. They desecrate their souls to rebuilding Sodom and Gomorrah the great cities of the salted desert, so the saturnalia of murder and destruction can continue. As the mythologist put it, they’ll continue “free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and reveling in joy. The liberated Old Fires would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel in joy, and all the earth will flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom.”

Their mirage needs to reinforce the sands underlying it. They must believe in collective salvation and collective immolation as one goal. This Father and Son are joined by two-headed Dominion to complete the Trinity under the mushroom fire. Man vs. Nature, Nature as an enemy to be subjugated and exploited by Man, a woman to be raped by science, an automaton to be tortured, Gaia as the realm of Satan to be Reclaimed in preparation for the Rapture/Second Coming/Singularity, all these fundamentals preached by the priests of fire, all one sign of the crumbling existential confidence of the civilization, one castle built on the sterile sand it has strewn beneath itself.

It was in the hot autumn that I went through the night with the restless crowds to see Nyarlathotep; through the stifling night and up the endless stairs into the choking room. And shadowed on a screen, I saw hooded forms amidst ruins, and yellow evil faces peering from behind fallen monuments.

The people sit and watch the show, passively receive images to eyes, hologram sparklings come out and hover, all hi-tech and dazzling even as the screen shows all water dissolving, all green curdling to desert. Some march with older holograms of oil derricks in the desert, others with new-fangled ones depicting the world turned all to desert to be all covered with metallic panels, to store the holocaust fires in one big battery.

This sterile desert has nothing common with the natural living flowering desert. It’s the desert of salt, of wasteland, the desert city of death.

I stood on the sand and looked at the phantom sea. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast — all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world. Whoever has ears, let them hear.

And I saw the world battling against blackness; against the waves of destruction from ultimate space; whirling, churning; struggling around the dimming, cooling sun. Then the sparks played amazingly around the heads of the spectators, and hair stood up on end whilst shadows more grotesque than I can tell came out and squatted on the heads.

The masses plumb ever greater depths of existential fear, the Leaders present false images of these crises. The Leaders also fear and reassure themselves with fake democracy and redoubled war. So the masses need misdirection to reinforce the image direction of desert and shimmer.

And when I, who was colder and more scientific than the rest, mumbled a trembling protest about “imposture” and “static electricity”, Nyarlathotep drove us all out, down the dizzy stairs into the damp, hot, deserted midnight streets. I screamed aloud that I was not afraid; that I never could be afraid; and others screamed with me for solace. We swore to one another that the city was exactly the same, and still alive; and when the electric lights began to fade we cursed the company over and over again, and laughed at the queer faces we made.

“If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.”

I believe we felt something coming down from the greenish moon, for when we began to depend on its light we drifted into curious involuntary formations and seemed to know our destinations though we dared not think of them. Once we looked at the pavement and found the blocks loose and displaced by grass, with scarce a line of rusted metal to shew where the tramways had run. And again we saw a tram-car, lone, windowless, dilapidated, and almost on its side. When we gazed around the horizon, we could not find the third tower by the river, and noticed that the silhouette of the second tower was ragged at the top. Then we split up into narrow columns, each of which seemed drawn in a different direction. One disappeared in a narrow alley to the left, leaving only the echo of a shocking moan. Another filed down a weed-choked subway entrance, howling with a laughter that was mad. My own column was sucked toward the open country, and presently felt a chill which was not of the hot autumn; for as we stalked out on the dark moor, we beheld around us the hellish moon-glitter of evil snows. Trackless, inexplicable ashen snows, swept asunder in one direction only, where lay a gulf all the blacker for its glittering walls. The column seemed very thin indeed as it plodded dreamily into the gulf. I lingered behind, for the black rift in the green-litten snow was frightful, and I thought I had heard the reverberations of a disquieting wail as my companions vanished; but my power to linger was slight. As if beckoned by those who had gone before, I half floated between the titanic snowdrifts, quivering and afraid, into the sightless vortex of the unimaginable.

Screamingly sentient, dumbly delirious, only the gods that were can tell. A sickened, sensitive shadow writhing in hands that are not hands, and whirled blindly past ghastly midnights of rotting creation, corpses of dead worlds with sores that were cities, charnel winds that brush the projected stars and make them flicker low. Beyond the worlds vague ghosts of monstrous things like Dominion gods; half-seen columns of unsanctified temples that rest on nameless rocks beneath space and reach up to the dizzy vacuum above the spheres of light and darkness, the images everywhere but Earth. And through this revolting graveyard of the universe the muffled, maddening beating of drums, and thin, monotonous whine of blasphemous flutes from inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond Time; the detestable pounding and piping whereunto dance slowly, awkwardly, and absurdly the gigantic, tenebrous ultimate gods created by the psychotic berserking souls of orcs — the blind, voiceless, mindless gargoyles whose soul is Nyarlathotep.

Now Toward Where (A Note)

I have zero expectations of the system. I’ve always said: The economic civilization will burn every last BTU’s worth of fossil fuels it can, and will destroy every last yard of the carbon-sinking earth it can. Big Green is on board with this. The NGO-industrial complex is on board with this.

So the only thing a sane human being could do is try to find fellow sane people and work to build some kind of communities where the people could help one another weather every kind of storm.

We can forget about the “Overton window”. That could exist only amid a feeling of abundance. But today, even though the empire nominally is still rich (but not for much longer), the entire “political spectrum” agrees on Mammon and specifically on how Mammon now dictates a zero-sum game.

I remember well the excitement at the econoblogs in 2009. I was an avid participant at Naked Capitalism, Baseline Scenario and others. Some of us thought it just might be a revolutionary situation. If there’s any fellow fugitives still out there, you could remember it too.

Well, obviously we were wrong about that.

Part of the reason we were wrong is that we underestimated the Democratic Party’s capacity to suck in all free-floating dissension and misdirect it back toward corporate imperialism’s goals.

I’ve been writing this blog for near eleven years now. Have I made any progress? It seems not. My personal life never got any real benefit from it. More recently I’ve totally shipwrecked and the blog seems to mean nothing. Nor are my modest prayers for personal life being answered.

Has the rest of the world gotten any better? Not on the surface, though we might have some hope that the final collapse is accelerating.

Let’s start over from the point of view: The civilized have credited the inculcation of the ability to make promises, to take responsibilities beyond the self-indulgent whims of the moment, as a great civilizing step.

But in reality it’s a mistake to think responsibility is a trait unique or endemic to civilized people. On the contrary, primate ancestors and early hominids, on through to “savage” tribal groups and societies, all had tight group cohesion and responsibility of each for all and all for each. They embodied this as part of their natural character. If they hadn’t, group primates and hominids never could have survived to evolve into modern humans. Ironically, it’s only amid the breakdown of natural tribal cohesion that the conscious idea of contracts had to become a thing, and “taking responsibility” had to become a conscious shibboleth.

Meanwhile, modern capitalist-productionist-consumerist ideology and its religious reflections, “Prosperity Theology” and the New Age cult, through their explicit denigration of the very concept of promises and responsibilities, through their explicit proclamations that each individual hominid is a Randroid island that should do nothing but indulge its whims of the moment in the most narcissistic sociopathic way, are working to destroy civilization’s capacity for contracts, promises, responsibility. Since there is no longer any underlying natural-tribal basis for these human traits, what this means is these ideologies and religions comprise a movement to render humans feral and savage in the worst sense of the term.

When Hobbes wrote that life in what he called the “state of nature” is “nasty, brutish, and short”, he wrote it as nothing more than myth. Hobbes never thought his state of nature really had existed anywhere. On the contrary, he considered this the state of civilized, tamed man where men are not kept brutally in line.

Hobbes took the modern “civilized” individual, one domesticated into fear and mercenary greed, or indoctrinated into liberal individualist ideology, and pictured this monster in the absence of the overawing state power. He envisioned how nasty and brutish such persons would be under those circumstances. Then he fraudulently called this the state of nature. But in fact such an atomized, distorted hominid has nothing in common with an organic human being living within a natural society. This fraud is at the core of the bogus “competition” ideology which is 100% artificial and requires massive propaganda, bribery, threats, fear and violence in order for it to make any headway against our natural humanity. In nature, organic human beings are cooperative.

Nietzsche composed a similar civilization myth in his Toward A Genealogy of Morals, Essay Two.

According to Nietzsche, humans first came to see themselves as social beings with social responsibilities through evolving a “memory of the will” and the capacity to make a promise. This had to overcome our innate faculty of active forgetting which is necessary for sifting the dross of sensation and thought. It rendered us “calculable, regular, necessary”.

How did man become calculable and necessary in his actions? According to Nietzsche it was only through the long process of what he called the morality of mores:

..the labor performed by man upon himself during the greater part of the existence of the human race, his entire prehistoric labor, finds in this its meaning, its great justification, notwithstanding the severity, tyranny, stupidity, and idiocy involved in it: with the aid of the morality of mores and the social straitjacket, man was actually made calculable.

This morality of mores is the primal world view centered on mystery, ritual, taboo, fierce adherence to the traditions or else the rains won’t come. It’s the time of obsession with an inscrutable supernatural, and the stark cause and effect reasoning which knows that only strict fealty to the rituals can appease the terrible forces of fate. Groups assume this first out of hope and desperation and later, as power grows, out of assertion and the feeling of power.

For thousands of years groups judged according to supernatural and ritualistic causes and effects, and the rituals were designed to render the effects calculable and necessary. In the process the human psyche was melted and hammered and bent and distorted until it took shape.

In a dialectical gyre the rituals tightened tribal cohesion and empowered tribal, ritual promising. These promises bolstered the individual sense of communal responsibility, first instinctual and then conscious, and made members more firm and reliable in their ritual promises.

Arising in prehistory from the primal ecology and later to pull itself upward from the post-industrial chaos of a collapsed mass, the free-as-a-bird individual becoming a reliable maker of promises represents the potential for a new communal coherence. To realize this social coherence, movement integrity is then the presupposition for individual integrity. That’s what Nietzsche wrongly thought happened before, when in reality Gaia was the craftswoman of this primal capacity.

But what if humanity staggers through the self-destruction and collective suicide of the modern economic civilization and then attempts to build new societies upon some remnant? At least in the short run, there seems no prospect that Gaia shall show the way. Rather, people will cling to whatever they recall of the devastation and try to reprise it. Perverse as people are, there seems to be no other way.

All we see today from political and media and intellectual Leaders is the call for slave conformity. The great revolutionary promise of the sovereign individual was supposed to be that freedom would transcend itself, that autonomous individuals, precisely because they so cherished this great gift of sovereignty, would assume the highest social responsibilities, since only this could preserve and augment the aggregate freedom. The public freedom, the highest form of politics, would be the consummation of the human condition.

What went wrong? Concentrated wealth, especially the concentrations afforded by fossil fuels, machine technology and the capitalist mode of organization allowed the slave mentality (enslaved to materialism, greed, power-lust) to hijack autonomy and debase it to sociopathy. Freedom degenerated to promiscuity. Liberty became license and the “right” to be a private vandal. Public, positive freedom was rejected and overridden by the libertine primacy of private indulgence and crapulence. The citizens debased themselves to consumers. The idealists prostituted themselves to materialism. Every promise became a lie. Everyone came to believe religiously in the primacy of worthless material junk over living as human beings.

The decadent economic civilization has lost the ability, the will or right to promise; it has squandered it. There’s no legitimacy left, no authority. God is dead; religion, government, law, business, ideology, nationalism, tribalism, all are dead insofar as they pretend to exist within this anti-human framework. This framework has eroded everything beyond recognition, leaving just hideous cackling caricatures in a haunted house of mirrors now burning down even as everyone still staggers about inside, drunken and cackling and crying and screaming.

If we’re ever to be able to promise again, we need complete renewal, Renaissance, Return. This has to start with a new moral world, complete rebirth.

The economic civilization is hollowed out by its rot as the ground erodes and slides from under its supports. Its dollar and predator drone delusions prop it up for the moment. But everything is decaying. That’s the only exponential curve still steepening. That’s the only debt curve still arcing. Resource depletion, ecological collapse, the destruction of the exponential cancer economy and worldwide war and civil war shall be the secular and physical confirmations of the great spiritual event: The immolation of the modern atomized tribe on the pyre of its own burning altar upon which it stacked far too many sacrificial branches, the apex victim of its own lust for extermination.

What will it mean to start anew as reawakened tribes? We can’t foresee the new forms in detail. These will be extemporaneous, decided by the tempo of the flames and the motions of those running through them.

As we emerge, we’ll emerge with a new ritual, a new credo, a new way of living. We shall sing the song of the next circle of society and promise, debt and delight, responsibility and right, family and freedom, law and liberty.

Forget the Apocalypse, the Elect Can Be Raptured Today

<

You already proclaim you’re evil. Why be cheap and gutless about it?

Yes indeed, anyone who so chooses can be enraptured today by the electoral circus, now entering its loudest, shrillest, fakest, most deranged manifestation of all. Still to have faith in liberal electoralism at this extreme late date, still to believe when all evidence proves how absurd it all is, verily demonstrates that one is of the electoral Elect and is capable of immeasurable Raptures in the throes of one’s hallucinations.

Yes indeed the main purpose of such infantile distractions is that the masses want to forget the looming, inevitable ecological-spiritual Apocalypse. And if anyone actually were quixotic enough, not only to face this mounting transformation squarely but call upon others to do so as well, the impresarios of the system are there to enforce the campaign of distraction, co-optation, suppression, repression.

*This piece is not meant to reflect any personal investment in the fake election. On the contrary, it’s meant to highlight how fake the spectacle is and how there’s no way forward within this system, nothing to be accomplished within system electoralism as such. No presidential or other federal election has been more than a plebiscite on the fake-political, fake-democratic charade of neoliberal electoralism itself.

*Proposition: The evidence record going back decades, strongly reinforced in 2016, demonstrates that Bernie Sanders is sheep-dogging for the Democratic Party; for “progressivism” and social democracy as such; for electoralism in itself; most of all for the economic civilization and the proposition that the predicaments of this civilization can be solved, and the ecological and spiritual crises it drives can be resolved, within the framework of this civilization, especially within the electoral framework.

*The same is true of most Sanders fans. Early in 2017 I pointed out the paradox:

Most absurd were the Sanders and Stein fantasies. Ironically this mode of voting Yes [in the plebiscite on fake electoralism] indicates the most active, conscious affirmation of the status quo, since it takes the form of constructive criticism. One votes this way to say, “I like the status quo but want a few changes.” These voters are more likely to pay lip service to reality, but still are unwilling or unable truly to face reality, reject the status quo, and commit to what’s necessary. They too ultimately refuse to confront the crises, they flee to fantasy, and they vote for the status quo volatility which created Trump.

It’s especially amusing to see our aspiring “revolutionaries” whining or lecturing about how Sanders and Warren are “forced” to attend the proceedings of the impeachment geekshow.

Impeachment of course is worthless to any human beings let alone to the Earth; on the contrary it’s designed to misdirect and astroturf the mental energies and waste the time of those who pay any attention to it. Since the system includes both the Sanders con-job sheep-dogging faction as well as factions which despise Sanders in spite of the fact that he’s on their side, it’s not surprising that part of the purpose of the impeachment circus is to keep Sanders and Warren off the campaign trail for awhile by tying them down in the Senate. The system factions all have a shared interest in this.

But that can’t work unless they willingly play along.

We often see this kind of lament: “Sanders and Warren being unable to properly campaign due to Senatorial considerations…”

In what way are they unable? When fans of these politicians say these are “unable” to campaign, they mean unwilling.

Now one might expect the corporate technocrat-posing-as-a-progressive Warren to play along with the impeachment farce. After all, Ms. “Capitalist to the core” is supposed to be a Responsible Adult, not an unwashed insurgent. But if Sanders were really on the level the way his fans claim, and not a con artist the way many of us long have assessed, wouldn’t he be flouting such fake “considerations”? None of his fans ever answers questions like these.

I was told, “Sanders was forced to cancel a campaign event he scheduled for tomorrow evening in Iowa because of the crazy impeachment schedule that will run on past 1 a.m. in the morning.”

Who forced him other than himself? If Sanders were on the level and a real insurgent rather than a sheep-dogging fraud, why would he do that? I sure wouldn’t if I was in his place. Not if I was for real. If Sanders is for real why would he be having anything to do with this geekshow?

I’m told, “he’s got a job, being a senator…All Senators must be present for the trial–or should Bernie add dereliction of duty to his campaign platform?”

Yes he most definitely should. As one of the original American revolutionaries proclaimed, “When tyranny is on the march, obedience is a crime.”

By Bernie’s own lights and those of his followers, if he’s sincere then his job is not to “be” a senator (whatever that’s supposed to mean) but to fight for the people. Therefore, to paraphrase Lincoln, if he could fight best by punctiliously carrying out his “senatorial duties” he would do so, and if he could fight best by flouting all such duties he would do so, and if he could fight best by fulfilling some duties and flouting others he would do that too.

Impeachment always was worthless from the point of view of anyone who wants to change anything. If one believes in Sanders, and if he himself is not a con man, then the election is all. Any insurgent would be hitting the streets deliberately playing up the proud assertion:

“Here with you is my post, not with the fraudulent establishment political game.”

That would appeal not just to sincere “progressives” (if there are any, which I doubt; their run-home-to-establishment-mama position on Sanders and impeachment is evidence of that) but to all sorts of independents and maybe some previous non-voters. That would really be doing something different, not just mouthing empty words while doing nothing even when there’s a real opportunity like this moment (the Sanders specialty).

Especially when Hillary Clinton is handing Sanders such a gift by attacking him, such a target-rich opportunity to really counterattack Biden, Buttigieg and the whole Democrat establishment. Anyone who says Sanders should throw away this time in order to time-serve a preordained geek role at the impeachment farce is simply admitting that they recognize the scam character of the Sanders phenomenon and like it that way.

Anyone who thinks Sanders should be at the “trial” is at least objectively pro-Hillary, pro-Biden. (Sanders bots have whined about Hillary’s ingratitude, that she attacks Sanders after his abject sheep-dogging for her in 2016. But his Shillary-ing came after the Clinton faction stole the nomination from Sanders. So this is clearly a one-way relationship, with Sanders’ full consent. In 2015 he unilaterally declared at the outset that he would ultimately support Clinton and do his best to deliver his followers to her. This time around he made the exact same unilateral declaration of support for whatever nominee the Democratic party retches up, thus voluntarily throwing away the one big bargaining chip he had, the threat to run an independent campaign. This too is proof that he’s a con artist to any rational person capable of assessing evidence. No, “gratitude” has no place here. Sanders never asked for it, never demanded it, never wanted it, and has gone out of his way to reward the party’s ingratitude.)

Sanders followers with their technicality-fetishes seem very confused about what exactly they think Sanders’s job in life is. Which is evidence they’re false themselves.

I was told, “Bernie would be the most hated man on the planet next to Trump if he ran as an Independent flouting Congressional responsibility”

A real insurgent would welcome this hatred and make a virtue of it, while only a fraud would attempt the kind of fence-sitting and bet-hedging called for by cowards.

More and more people hate the system. In their eyes to earn the hatred of that system would be a great credential.

The kind of Berniebots who through some bizarre convolution want their Sanders to be an insurgent and yet simultaneously want him to act in the most domesticated, housebroken, tame, lame, Corbynesque way merely are demonstrating how they themselves are tame and lame and utterly incapable even of wanting change, let alone fighting for it.

It won’t do to say that if Sanders were to stay away from Washington and continue to campaign he would get slammed by the media as irresponsible or derelict. He’s already being slammed for that. On the contrary, if Sanders were a real insurgent against the status quo (or if he wanted to change into that right now), if he were a real alternative campaigner who wasn’t an incompetent spineless coward like Corbyn, he would be fighting to make a virtue of flouting the fake conventions of the partisan geekshow. He’d be doing it as a feature of his campaign.

You would speak only to the people, telling them:

“I’m not here to be a prop in their political con jobs which are meant to distract you from the real problems we have to face. I’m here for you, to be your representative and to speak to you about what’s real, since the establishment politicians and media have nothing to say to you except what’s fake.”

The establishment would whine and attack him for it, which would only be one added detail of their attack and therefore wouldn’t change anything since they’re already attacking him across the board.

*One advantage of having an enemy who simply is out to get you by any means possible is that it frees you from having to worry about any legitimate criticism, which if it existed would simply be confounded with the attack campaign. If you choose to use that advantage (i.e. if you’re not morbidly cowardly and inept like Corbyn; no circumstance ever could wrench him out of his congenital appeasement mentality), you can use it to accelerate your assertiveness and counterattacks as well as dispensing with the “for show” obstacles the enemy tries to put in your way. The demand to Sit Still and Be Quiet in one’s Senate seat while a geekshow is performed is one such fake obstacle.

(The fanbots also refuse to answer about things like Sanders’ willing participation in the NAFTA-vote geekshow. After CNN and the pathological liar Warren did their best to make Sanders look good at the last debate, he went right back to sheep-dogging form, willingly playing a geek role in this typical Washington geek-show:

“As one of the only candidates opposing Trump’s trade deal, I want to thank Sen. @ChuckSchumer for joining this fight. USMCA will make climate change worse. We will do better when I’m president.”

By “Trump’s trade deal” Sanders of course means the Trump-Democrat trade deal which passed the Senate 89-10, with several or all of the Democrat No votes being purely for show. Maybe Sanders means that as president he’ll tell better lies.

Of course one expects no better from an NGO technocrat/scammer like Bill McKibben (also quoted fulsomely gushing about Schumer’s heroism), but how do the Sanders fans explain such abject role-playing on the part of their would-be hero? Shouldn’t their version of Sanders be denouncing the nihilism and cynicism of Schumer and those cheering on his purely theatrical fake gesture and naming them complicit in this awful legislation?

Unless, of course, Sanders’ own No vote on NAFTA was equally for show. Just like Trump’s war budget, the Patriot Act and other legislative crimes, the revised NAFTA was passed with great bipartisan enthusiasm at the exact moment the impeachment farce was underway. How retarded would someone have to be still to believe there is any substantive difference whatsoever between the Democrats and Republicans, or not to recognize impeachment as pure misdirectional farce?)

*The fact that Sanders fans all seem to have such a morbidly conformist mindset about things like what a senator “has” to do when some stupid political circus is going on, is good evidence that they too, like their sheep-dogging Leader, don’t really want to change anything, just run a circus spectacle of their own.

When Sanders followers claim he’s constrained by system niceties, they’re really talking about their own preference for a fake alternative who really doesn’t want to change anything, only to put on a show. I bet if Sanders really were to start acting like an insurgent, his “progressive” support would lose enthusiasm. Otherwise why do they keep making excuses for his lukewarmness?

It’s also strong evidence of the falseness of Sanders fans who have been fanatical impeachment devotees. But any Sanders fan who really believes Sanders is an insurgent would never have wanted him to have anything to do with the geekshow, nor would they be so indelibly mired in the mentality that he “has to”. On the contrary they would denounce the misdirectional stupidity of it in principle while also pointing out how, as many of them already admit, part of the purpose of impeachment in the first place was to derail the Sanders campaign momentum. If you recognize that, why would you say “nevertheless we must comply”, unless you yourself were fraudulent to the core and are admitting that your Leader is as well?

*To repeat: Still to repose religious faith in this electoral system at all, let alone to be so congenitally enslaved in mind to it that one even believes in the impeachment geekshow, is to be objectively pro-Hillary, pro-Trump, pro- all the worst. No wonder Sanders is having such an easy time performing his pro-Hillary/pro-Trump sheepdog routine – look at the intellectual and moral quality of his fanbots.

Sanders would be in “dereliction of duty”, Oh heavens! Oh my pearls!

These people never would’ve been able to agree in the first place on the constitution’s getting rid of titles of nobility, they’re so beholden to worthless formality. There’s our “revolutionaries”!
