The Basic Ecological Flow of Modern Civilization

Over the long run the ecological measure is the one and only real measure for life on Earth. All the artificial measures of Babylon which currently seem so powerful, which often seem even to have superseded the measure of life itself, are ephemeral. The best example is the most extreme example. The fakeness of money, which through global financialization claims to be the most granite reality of all, is just the most extreme fakeness of a civilization whose adamantine towers are always just one breeze away from toppling. These measures of rock built on sand are measures only for the very short run, however long that seems to the victims, and to we ecological dissidents.
 
And so ecology is the only reality-based measure. What’s the basic ecological cycle and flow of modern civilization?
 
1. Extract fossil fuels (and fossil water, fossil phosphorus, minerals, everything which can be exploited for productionism), mine all “resources” (anything and everything including human beings is nothing but a resource), theoretically renewable or not, such that it renders them non-renewable.
 
2. Put all this into motion as aggressively, chaotically, destructively as possible. (Their ideologues call this “creative destruction”.) Force everything and everyone to participate in frenzied action to no purpose. What is the ecological purpose of any action characteristic of civilization? None whatsoever, other than destruction for the sake of destruction. Damage, ravage, poison, destroy the ecology. From the point of view of ecology, the only reality-based measure, almost all civilized hominid action serves zero purpose but destruction.
 
A simple ratio demonstrates this: Look at any hominid and tally what he takes from the Earth, and what he gives to the Earth.* In the case of almost any civilized hominid it’ll be difficult or impossible to discern in what way he’s anything but a pure parasite. And in almost all cases gratuitously destructive as well, a vandal as well as a parasite.
 
3. As the waste product of the pointless frenzy, fill the atmosphere with greenhouse gases and other wastes, fill the water with pollutants, accumulate plastic and other wastes in the oceans, suffuse the general environment with plastics, industrial and agricultural poisons, and every other kind of waste. For as long as the ecology functions, some of this waste biodegrades, some only very slowly, some, especially plastics, maybe not at all. The more waste accumulates the greater the pressure on the ecology to break down and cease function.
 
 
There’s the ecological essence of modern civilization: Extraction of non-renewable “resources”, pointless orgy, massive and terminal buildup of waste and toxification. The ecological measure is the only real measure, over the long run. For civilization it’s a suicide race. Which will come first: Resource depletion, the orgy going to nuclear war or total pandemic, general ecological collapse? Which mode of death: Starvation, shooting yourself, poisoning yourself.
 
The only real questions are, once the nightmare’s over and what’s left behind is a Learian desolation, how much will be left for Gaia to use to rebuild, and at what stability or chaos of a new phase state.
 
This is the long run history of the future. There’s a popular Keynes quote, “In the long run we’re all dead.”
 
Yes. And “Homo sapiens” is determined to make that long run as short as possible for itself as a species. In its civilized form H. domesticus it wants to make life itself extinct. The suicide race also is a homicide race – how much of Gaia can civilization murder before it kills itself. And what can ecological dissidents do: To defend and conserve until the clock runs out; to fight back; even to speed up the clock.
 
 
*To anticipate trolls or even honest questions, here’s what I give to the Earth: On all the land available to me I grow food according to agroecological principles (aka organically). Beyond directly growing food I’ve been active in the community food movement, dedicated to restoring natural modes of food production and distribution, for almost ten years now. I’m a writer and educator, director of two community gardens, have worked at a farmers market and at our herbal medicine garden. In these ways I act and propagate ideas toward restoring these more ecological modes. All voluntary aspects of my life are on Gaia’s vector.
 
I would like to be a full time farmer if I had my rightful place on the land. Civilization encloses the land for only idle or destructive purposes. I’m foreclosed by the religion of money (Mammon), the religion of property, the police. This is to explain how civilization forces limits on how much any of us who isn’t rich or otherwise lucky can give.
 
I offer Gaia my writing, I propagate the necessary ideas to whatever extent I’m able and anyone’s listening. I do all I can to speak to fellow mammals amid the underbrush, calling upon us to wait out the dinosaurs, destroying their eggs whenever we can. I do the maximum I can do. And I engage in no high-impact, high-GHG actions except under duress. I’m conscripted into driving a car; if I could abolish the car completely I’d do so in a second. If I could press a button and cause all fossil fuels to disappear immediately, I’d do so in a second.
 
I envision the coming ecological restoration of humanity, the coming natural community which includes humanity as fully giving and receiving participant. And until then I do what I can to envision the ideas and organization we need today, in order to endure and carry through the little that’s worthwhile, and take whatever action we can.

Morally, Ecologically, COPFOs Are the Same as CAFOs

1. Factory farms are among the worst evils of modern civilization. The civilized smugly invoke Auschwitz as a near-mythical symbol of pure evil. Meanwhile Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs), identical concentration and death camps by any measure other than that of domesticated hominid supremacism, continue to multiply across America and the globe.
 
The sadistic cruelty which is the daily routine is beyond sane imagination. The living animals are packed together like dead sardines. They are driven insane with physical pain and crowding and unfathomable psychological stress. Babies are wrenched from their mothers to render the mothers “productive” again as fast as possible. The inmates are fed a gruesome poisoned grain diet which makes them sick. It’s just enough to drag their zombie forms along till they reach slaughter weight. (Producing this weight is the one and only thing GMOs ever have been tested for by the system. Never once has the system performed a legitimate safety test. Governments, corporations, academia, and the corporate and science media systematically lie about this, the ultimate fake news.)
 
Egg layers have it the worst. Broilers can’t be pushed too far into madness lest they rub their breasts raw against the wire till the flesh is stripped to the bone, much as maddened concentration camp inmates would commit suicide by trying to climb the wire. That would ruin the product. But for the layers anything goes as long as eggs can be forced from them.
 
Imprisoned in boxes, living with nothing but foul air and artificial light, never seeing or feeling the sun, or the grass beneath, or the flowing breeze, they live dead lives of misery and torment, all to satisfy the depravities of the sadistic and gluttonous civilized.
 
CAFOs are a clear and present danger to public health. They automatically incubate every kind of animal and animal-to-human disease. This, along with the hideous living conditions and toxic diet, renders the inmates chronically sick. They’re maintained on a constant regimen of antibiotics. CAFO feed also is contaminated with antibiotic resistant GM bacteria which are left over from the factory synthesis of riboflavin and other feed additives. The main effect of these practices is radically to accelerate the evolution of antibiotic resistant pathogens and the failure of drug after drug. By any rational or moral measure we must conclude that the goal of corporate industrial agriculture and government policy is the complete eradication of antibiotics as a medically effective treatment. CAFOs guarantee pandemics from this vector.
 
CAFOs also guarantee epidemics of human and non-human animal illness and environmental destruction from their massive output of air and water pollution. CAFOs spew vast amounts of particulate matter (much of it carrying pathogens), ozone smog, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide and other pollutants. The Biblical flood of sewage which surges forth from CAFOs, unassimilable by farmland or the natural environment, is a constant volcano of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, sulfur dioxide, and other potent greenhouse gases. CAFOs are among the reasons industrial agriculture is by far the number one driver of the climate crisis.
 
Agronomically CAFOs reinforce the overproduction of worthless commodity grain. This condemns to effective sterility vast spans of arable land which could be used to grow food for human communities on an agroecological basis. Instead the output of most of the land, and the ecological devastation which goes with poison-based agriculture, all goes down the CAFO rathole in order to produce cheap (at the retail checkout), grotesquely expensive (by any reality-based accounting) meat for the Western and Westernized middle classes.
 
This productionism of worthless grain, and the deployment of subsidies and propaganda in order artificially to generate such “markets” for this grain as the CAFO system, is a long-standing, perverse policy of the US government, fully supported by the entire political, intellectual, and media class.
 
Most important from the point of view of the corporate-technocratic state, the CAFO system reinforces the GMO deployment. This deployment of a worthless, extremely expensive and destructive product genre, depends completely on such artificial dumping grounds for worthless over-produced commodity grains.
 
Socioeconomically the CAFO system is a key driver of farm consolidation and the domination of farming by agribusiness. The system directly destroys small animal farms, indirectly destroys small grain farmers by reinforcing the mass commodity system.
 
CAFOs destroy the communities where they’re sited (always among lower income people of course). They foul the land, water, and air for many miles around rendering the landscape unlivable.
 
Working conditions are very dangerous, with high risks of direct injury, acute illness which is sometimes lethal (workers as well as animals often are killed outright by surges of hydrogen sulfide from manure lagoons), physical and mental disease from the fumes, chronic illness from the general disease incubation, and drowning in the manure lagoons. The working conditions and pay are atrocious. The legal “owners” of the CAFO are themselves indentured servants, forced by the corporation to take on all the work, risk, and debt while the corporation dictates all procedures and reaps all the profit.
 
In every way CAFOs add up to nothing but evil, destruction, death. A sane humanity would abolish them immediately on moral and self-preservation grounds. The fact that the masses not only tolerate but support this system is one of the direct proofs that modern civilized hominids are clinically insane, and incapable of Darwinian adaptation. This has nothing to do with lack of mediated information; mentally sound animals directly sense what will destroy them and fight or flee. Only civilized hominids have lost this core evolutionary trait. That goes for all self-destructive human “politics”.
 
 
2. Plant monocultures, which I will henceforth call COPFOs (COncentrated Plant Feeding Operations), are little better. Everything we just condemned about CAFOs – working conditions, destruction of communities, farm and agribusiness consolidation, agronomic perversity, ecological destruction, public health hazards including the epidemics of cancer and reproductive problems from poisons in the fields and food, including antibiotic resistance driven by herbicides (all herbicides are broad-spectrum biocides, i.e. antibiotics; glyphosate was patented as an antibiotic before it became part of herbicide formulations) and the promiscuous use of antibiotic resistance markers in genetic engineering – all are just as severe and destructive with COPFOs. I’ve written about this in hundreds of pieces over many years and don’t need further detail here.
 
Industrial monoculture denudes and destroys the soil, which becomes a disintegrated, inert medium in which the plants are physically propped up, jolted with synthetic fertilizer, slathered in poison which suffuses all their cells. The plants, malnourished except for a few artificially supplied (usually grossly oversupplied) macronutrients, physically weakened by being constantly drenched in poison, genetically weakened by breeding programs focused myopically on perverse traits like gross yield (meaningful only from a capitalist commodity point of view, not from any ecological perspective or the perspective of growing food for people), genetically tortured by unnecessary surgery and Nazi-style experimentation called “genetic engineering” (the scientists also torture the animals this way), too damaged and weakened to deploy their natural processes which signal one another, summon beneficial insects, and repel pests, become easy targets for pests. So they require even more poison, which then weakens the plants and soil that much further. (The eventual food quality of such crops is of course very low.) This vicious circle is deliberate and goes together with the equally deliberate pesticide-pest, pesticide-resistance arms race, the pesticide treadmill which is as old as the large-scale deployment of pesticides themselves.
 
Both CAFOs and COPFOs are radically toxic, radically polluting, radically destructive of the ecology, radically destructive of human health and well-being, radically destructive of the human community.
 
 
3. Empathy for non-human animals and the moral feeling and philosophy which encompasses them as fully as the human animal is grounded in the fact that non-human animals are as sentient as humans. They have feeling, they have emotion, they have ideas, they have language, they have culture. Only the flat-earth speciesism typical of civilized hominids would deny something so self-evident to healthy perception and so overwhelmingly confirmed by science.
 
But perception and science say we must go further than just moving the boundary of speciesism from human-vs.-animal to animal-vs.-plant. Plants too are sentient. They communicate about weather, pests, drought, they signal to beneficial insects. They can sense nearby plants being eaten and react. They make decisions. They forecast future climate conditions, water availability, and sunlight access and extend their branch and root growth ahead of time in accord with their forecasts. One species, the stilt palm, even “walks” toward a better location it has anticipated by extending new rooting stilts in that direction and detaching from the opposite stilts. Plants remember the effects of stimuli and will modify their reactions accordingly. Integrated with mycelial mats they join to form intelligent collective organisms. Botanists studying plant communication via chemicals released into the air and soil have compiled plant vocabularies of over three thousand “words”.
 
There is no more call to doubt plant sentience than to doubt animal sentience. If we find it difficult to empathize with the mind of a plant, this is no less true of the mind of a whale or dolphin, yet no one but a domestic-hominid supremacist denies the sentience of whales and dolphins.
 
(Of course, relative to potential, so-called Homo sapiens, in the form of H. domesticus, is by far the least sentient, least sapient, most stupid and “vegetative” species on Earth.)
 
 
4. In truth all of us, all plants and animals (and fungi and protozoans and bacteria), are part of the same food web. We all are “predators” and we all shall become “prey”. It’s impossible to refute this, only to deny it and lie about it. This civilization and its apostles, including almost all who claim to care about animals and/or the environment, do little or nothing but deny and lie. (It’s telling that an “or” is even conceptually possible there, yet few things are more common than reductive cherry-picking among things that in reality are inextricable and irreducible.) Thus we have corporate “environmentalists” who support CAFOs, and vegan/animal welfare types who support COPFOs. Indeed both tout such evils as part of their fake “solutions”.
 
In ecological reality, the only reality, the only possible way of life is to take responsibility for ourselves – as individuals, families, communities – as integral parts of the ecology. We must have reverence for Gaia. We must take only what we will use and give back at least as much as we take. Otherwise we’re not even predators but parasites. The modern civilized can never be anything but wasteful and destructive parasites.
 
Whether one believes in eating meat or not, either way industrial monoculture, CAFOs and COPFOs, is beyond the moral and ecological pale. Short of a complete reversion to hunting-gathering (which is not necessary, though the apostles of industrial agriculture seem intent on forcing us to that extreme once their system inevitably collapses; they intend a global Somalia of post-agricultural failure) the only sustainable future is decentralized, low-input agroecology, with or without animal pasturage. This is the great goal our movement must work toward. Meanwhile anyone smugly content to cherry-pick within the industrial commodity system and otherwise be content with that system is offering no solution at all, only a scam which is irrational, anti-scientific, anti-ecological, and morally evil.

“Green New Deal”, Same as the Old Deal

The Greens are right to point out to the history-impaired Dembots who suddenly have discovered the notion of a “Green New Deal” that the Green Party was touting it earlier. Of course it’s not a new idea at all, on the contrary it’s a hoary old theme. I think I first heard of it from Tom Friedman of all people, well over ten years ago, and I’m sure it wasn’t new then.
 
The Greens also are right that their public-oriented version is sound in a way that the fake “market”-oriented Democrat version is not.
 
But I don’t care who was there with this idea before whom, nor do I care which version is more superficially socialist. What’s more important is that the idea itself is a scam; that’s why the Democrat Party can embrace it, and why it so instinctively appeals to Dembots, and also to constructive critic, loyal opposition types like the Greens. It perpetuates the same anti-ecological onslaught under the fraudulent guise of ending this onslaught. As part of the general assault of the productionist cancer (“growth”) economy it’s part of the problem and cannot be part of the solution, since the solution can only be to end the assault, period.
 
As for the climate crisis, there’s one and only one way to avert the worst:
 
Stop industrial-level emissions; stop destroying sinks; rebuild sinks.
 
Anything else, including the pro-industrial “Green New Deal” meme, is a lie. The Paris babblers still fetishize 2 degrees Celsius as their red line; meanwhile the last time the atmospheric carbon concentration was above 400PPM global temperatures were 5-10 degrees higher than the present. So that amount of rise is already baked in; it’ll just take time for temperatures to catch up to the radical ahistorical speed of the atmospheric concentration.
 
And as we see, literally no one who’s part of the political class, including the UNFCCC-Kyoto-Paris crew, including climate scientists, including the Democrat Party and its “DSA” astroturf, has any intention whatsoever of ending industrial emissions, ending the destruction of sinks, or of committing to a global grassroots-based rebuilding of sinks. Nowhere are any of those necessary steps on the agenda at all, only the same old destruction, the same old death march of production and consumption, both of which boil down to nothing but destruction, waste, and pollution. (Including the social pollution of wealth and power accumulation, every bit as toxic as dioxin accumulation in the physical tissues, and ultimately every bit as much a biological war; the two modes of total war are inextricable.)
 
 
But as they say, when you’re in a hole, keep digging and blasting, just paint your shovel and sticks of dynamite green. “The American way of life is non-negotiable. Therefore the solution to ecological crises can only be More Capitalism. Keep Shopping! And Keep Driving.” That’s the necrotic essence of the “green new deal”.
 
So our climate heroes have no intention of holding any line at 2 degrees – that’s just temporary political theater. Nor are they satisfied with the 5-10 degrees already baked in. No, they join hands with their “conservative”, de jure denier counterparts in their determination to continue emitting and continue destroying. The real magic number of the ultimate global heating, for every apostle of the economic civilization, is far higher than 10 degrees Celsius. And since the accelerating warming will bring the great methane surges and other feedbacks, this ardently yearned-for heat surge may come much. much sooner than anyone in their system expects. They’ll get their Utopia of flame and die in ecstasy.

Ecocide Equals Genocide

The economic civilization fights for the wholesale poisoning of the ecology and destruction of biodiversity. The attack is most aggressive on the front which is the original battlefront of civilization itself, agriculture. Modern poison-based agriculture long has been proven an agronomic failure, and it’s long been proven to increase hunger rather than alleviate it. Socially, agronomically, ecologically it’s purely destructive. We know the corporations, regulators, academia and corporate media don’t advocate poisonism for agronomic reasons. We know they’re willfully, intentionally committing ecocide and giving people cancer for the sake of nothing but power, profit, and destruction of biodiversity for the very sake of this destruction, since monoculture in itself (political, cultural, biological) is a totalitarian goal of the system. In 2017 the Monsanto Tribunal condemned Monsanto for these crimes, including ecocide.
 
The proposition that ecosystems have the same rights as humans follows rationally from any coherent concept of human rights, such as that upon which the Nuremburg tribunal based its jurisprudence. This is because humanity is inextricably part of the overall ecology. Therefore it’s both rationally and morally meaningless to conceive any human right, on a community or individual level, other than as part of a combined human-ecological right. At the same time “the individual” is a false construction in itself, a vestige of classical liberal/bourgeois ideology. In reality the individual can exist only within ecological and community contexts. Therefore individual rights can exist only within the context of ecological rights.
 
Most important of all, if genocide is a crime against humanity, then any broad-based destruction of the ecology is equally such a crime against humanity since humanity is inextricably part of and dependent upon the ecology.
 
Ecocide, in addition to being evil in itself, is equal to genocide.
 
 
 
Destroy the dinosaurs’ eggs every chance you get.

Same As the Old Boss

Well what do you know, the Democrat faction of the Corporate One-Party took back control of the House from the Republican faction. (It’s one hard-right party, of course; only liars and those ignorant of history call the Dems “centrist”. By any objective or historical standard they’re a right-wing party.)
 
It’s no big surprise. Last two years it’s been the normally self-assured Republicans who, because of their ambivalence about Trump, have uncharacteristically taken on the usual Democrat role of existential confusion and doubt. Meanwhile the Democrats, in a berserk batshit-insane way, have been more motivated and focused.
 
So what are these Democrats going to do with this control now that they have it?
 
I made no prediction on what would happen in this election, but I’ve long predicted that if/when the Democrats win control of either house they’ll do nothing with that control. Jack squat. Status quo all the way, embellished with more retarded Russia-Derangement stuff and similar nonsense.
 
If there really were a difference between these corporate factions, here’s the chance for the House to obstruct all Senate-passed legislation. And as for things which are technically only in the power of the Senate such as confirming appointments, here’s the chance for the House to put public moral pressure on Democrats in the Senate. And there’s plenty of back-door ways an activist House can influence Senate business. Only morbid pedantry, so typical of liberal Dembots, goes on babbling about what the technical powers of this or that body are. The real world doesn’t work that way. To the extent I pay attention at all to Senate affairs it’ll be to see what the House is doing about it.
 
So they claim there’s a difference between the two parties? And they claim Trump is an incipient fascist dictator? In that case there’s a lot at stake, and extreme action is called for. Let’s see what kind of action we get from their “different” party in control of the House.
 
But I predict this House won’t lift a finger vs. the Senate, and that it’ll strive to work with the Senate on legislation, and that it’ll fully concur with the Senate on war budgets, police state measures, anything and everything demanded by Wall Street, Big Ag, the fossil fuel extractors, and of course the corporate welfare state in general.
 
Nor will any of these new-fangled fake “socialist” types take any action to change things one iota. Within the House Democrat faction they could take action, form any and every kind of coalition, to obstruct the corporate-Pelosi leadership faction. They will not do so. There’s another prediction. This “new” progressive bloc will be just as fake as the old one.
 
Nothing I’ve talked about here is anything but what is possible, what is always implicitly or explicitly promised by Dembots, and what it would seem is the minimum necessary given what Dembots claim is the scope of the crisis and what is at stake.

Anti-Electoral

I was going to write yet another new anti-electoral piece but really I’ve said it all already: That American elections are fake; that Republicans and Democrats are merely two factions of the Corporate One-Party; that they only pretend to disagree but in practice fully agree on literally every significant point; that even where they believe they’re disagreeing it’s only the narcissism of infinitesimal difference within their cult, meaningless to anyone outside the cult (i.e. almost all of humanity); that in particular both are fully dedicated to the total destruction of the Earth and humanity; that both agree the Earth and humanity should be nothing but a resource mine and waste dump for big corporations and the rich; that there’s nothing within the system which offers any alternative whatsoever to this total destruction; that partisan voters aren’t political at all but rather are types of celebrity fan club or fans of a sports team; that partisan voters are criminals, every bit as much as their Leaders; that they willfully and deliberately vote for every crime of their Leaders; that for anything to be done there’s no alternative to building a radical cultural movement completely outside and against the entire existing system.

The Vileness of “Progressives” on the Climate Crisis

There is one and only one way to avert the worst of the climate crisis:
 
Stop emitting greenhouse gases; stop destroying sinks; rebuild sinks on a massive scale.
 
All else is a lie. Most of all, the Big Lie is that anything constructive can be done within the congenitally destructive framework of capitalism, productionism, the economic civilization. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar who really cares nothing about the climate crisis or any other part of the great ecological crisis, other than seeing these as an opportunity to tout scams.
 
For example, our “progressives” and “the left” are peas in a pod with George Bush in proclaiming that “the American way of life”, in all its wastefulness, destructiveness, and ugliness, “is non-negotiable.” Therefore, for them just as much as for corporations and rightists, the only true solution, which requires the complete end of this nightmarish “way of life”, is a non-starter, indeed is inconceivable.
 
For progressives just as much as for ExxonMobil the ecological assault not only must continue but must escalate at all times. In the case of those who cry crocodile tears over the climate, the general assault must be augmented with yet another vicious assault in the name of “doing something about the climate.” Yes, they want to do something all right: They want massive, ecologically destructive industrial projects in order allegedly to “capture” carbon. In reality none of these would work. The only way to capture carbon is to stop emitting; stop destroying natural sinks; rebuild natural sinks on a massive scale.
 
But that would require them to give up their worthless appliances, their worthless gadgets, their worthless industries, most of all their worthless cars. And like I said, “progressives” are every bit as materialistic, every bit as much nothing but the appendages of their machines and gadgets, and have every bit as much a hatred and destruction-lust toward the Earth as the fattest, most civilization-dependent conservative.
 
There are more and more calls for this destruction campaign on the part of the progressive climate crocodiles. By now you can count on finding such calls on a daily basis as such pseudo-left sites as Counterpunch and Common Dreams.
 
(They also often tout the equally vile scam of mass-murdering trees in order to burn them as wood pellets. This campaign of destruction is especially popular in Europe; indeed a major purpose of the sham Paris accord is to greenwash this absolutely destructive practice, which of course only increases GHG emissions and the destruction of sinks. It’s probably even worse in these ways than the biofuel scam which was once all the rage among these same climate-crying frauds.)
 
The most psychopathic scam, increasingly popular among these scammers, is geoengineering. This most of all proves how much they hate the natural environment, want to destroy it completely, and cherish the notion of artificially engineering it. This most of all demonstrates the fundamental affinity between progressives/leftists and corporations/rightists, how there’s no difference between them, and how “the left” offers no alternative to the infinite nightmare of productionism, technocracy, and total ecological death. This of course also would mean the extinction of humanity since you actually can’t destroy the basis of your physical existence (the ecology) and replace it with something else. We see the fundamental insanity which is shared completely across the entire political spectrum.
 
This also shows us why those who claim to care about the climate crisis never want actually to do anything about it. The climate crocodiles want to destroy the living Earth and replace it with an artificially engineered one. Their one and only objection to GHG-driven climate change is that it’s an uncontrolled engineering. But offer them the prospect of what they delusionally see as controlled engineering and they become euphoric.
 
That’s the only way it’s possible one could react to the climate crisis and the general ecological crisis by wanting to add a vastly worse ecological assault on top of the ongoing assault. All these crises are the direct result of civilization’s “engineering”. So your answer is to radically escalate the engineering? Any sane person would see how psychotic this is.
 
Geoengineering and massive techno-“capture” projects in general add up to this prescription: When you find you’re in a pit, keep digging, harder and harder. Use explosives. Use nukes.
 
Except I’m not convinced that even full-scale nuclear war would be as ecologically destructive as geoengineering, the most vile idea ever propagated.

A Note on Animals and Greenhouse Gases

These are part of the ecology, not against it

 
 
The ecological crisis is complex, but here’s one basic rule of thumb: If the land can assimilate the animals and/or crops, if waste doesn’t accumulate, then you’re ecologically sound as far as that goes. But as soon as waste begins to accumulate your practice has become unsound and destructive. This applies to crops just as much as to animals.
 
Depending on the circumstance and how well organized people are, the scope of the land can be one farm, or several co-operating farms, or a tight-knit community.
 
Never can it be a civilization, which automatically generates massive accumulations of waste. This is because by definition civilization is based on parasitic cities which mine the vast lands around them.
 
 
With that, let’s get to the alleged effects of animals and methane. Nomadic humans herded livestock for thousands of years causing no ecological problems. Wild grazers such as bison and wildebeest used to be far more abundant than today with no problems. Civilizations have destroyed vast swaths of land through sedentary agriculture, not pastoralism. Pastoralism becomes ecologically harmful only when grazing is driven off appropriate intact grasslands by agriculture and other extraction industries and onto inappropriate marginal land. Same as how, in addition to the direct assaults on forests by industrial agriculture and logging, civilization’s industries drive traditional farmers off their appropriate arable lands and into slash-and-burn.
 
Today there are dire ecological harms including massive greenhouse gas emissions caused by factory farms, CAFOs. These generate tremendous waste accumulations, literal lakes of liquid manure (called “lagoons”), which spew vast plumes of methane along with many directly toxic air pollutants. The system makes only feeble attempts to find farmland where it can spread this manure, and much of the carbon already has vaporized into the atmosphere. Meanwhile CAFOs vomit huge amounts of nitrogen into the air as the highly potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide and into waterways causing massive pollution culminating in the vast Dead Zones of the Gulf of Mexico, the Chesapeake, and many other places around the world.
 
If we’re focused on the climate crisis, on methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide, there’s our legitimate target in animal agriculture. If on the other hand you object to all animal husbandry, including grass farming, on animal welfare grounds, then be honest enough to own up to that. Don’t lie and say pasture farming is a significant contributor to climate change, because it’s not.
 
We must go further. A sincere climate focus must indict industrial agriculture as a whole, all of which is massively destructive to the ecology in many ways, including the fact that the sector is the leading emitter of greenhouse gases.
 
We must go further. We must condemn capitalism as such, productionism as such, the economic civilization as such, since forced climate change and every other ecological assault are inherent to these; they depend upon ecological destruction for their existence to the point that any legitimate definition of them must include destroying the Earth.
 
Here’s the fact: There is one and only one solution to avert the worst of climate chaos:
 
Stop emitting; stop destroying sinks; rebuild sinks.
 
All else is a lie. Most of all, the Big Lie is that anything constructive can be done within the congenitally destructive framework of the economic civilization.
 
So let’s dispense with the ticky-tack nonsense of attacking small animal farms, many of which are leaders in building the community food movement, as alleged climate destroyers. Only fake activists, members of the de facto climate denier crew, would engage in such a fraud.

Eugenic War II Proceeds According to Schedule

The First Eugenic War against humanity and the Earth was launched by ideologues of scientism and social Darwinism in the latter 19th century. In America and Europe eugenics quickly became one of the most popular cultural and political ideas among the entire educated and political class. Political progressives especially were enthralled and as usual joined hands with conservatives and militarists. In America only the churches and a small band of political and social critics opposed the cultural eugenic wave.
 
Although the movement failed to gain policy traction in Britain in spite of massive propaganda efforts, America quickly began enacting eugenic policies. California and other states were passing laws informed by eugenic notions early in the century. By the 1920s forced sterilizations of alleged inferiors, enshrined by the Supreme Court (“three generations of imbeciles is enough”, chirped Oliver Wendell Holmes for the 8-1 majority), were being performed on a large scale, while eugenic ideology played a large role in the crafting of immigration policy.
 
Europe’s big day came when the Nazis came to power. The Nazis warmly praised American eugenic policy and consciously adapted it. Nazi eugenics escalated in tandem with anti-Jewish policy. They eased their way from voluntary euthanasia of deformed infants to a full-scale policy of the murder of asylum inmates launched in tandem with the invasion of Poland in 1939. The program used both shootings and gassing. In this way Nazi eugenics both psychologically and in terms of technical experience prepared the Nazis to embark upon the vastly greater program of exterminating the Jews with poison gas. Genocide is the inherent goal of all eugenics.
 
Much to the chagrin of scientists and technocrats everywhere, the Nazi experience discredited the eugenic concept in the public mind. Eugenics had to go underground under the guise of regular genetic research. It eventually began to resurface in the 1960s in the form of reproductive assistance technologies marketed as mere medical treatments but whose practitioners actually had far-reaching eugenic goals. This stealth eugenics was accompanied by the development of genetic engineering technology. At the same time Arthur Jensen and Harvard University resurrected scientific racism. These three pathways have since intertwined and comprise an ever more aggressive propaganda and technological deployment. The Second Eugenic War was on.

My basic point has been that agricultural GMOs, in addition their inherent uses as weapons of power, also are a stalking horse for GM animal eugenics and eventually GM human eugenics. The idea of so-called reproductive “medical” engineering treatments has run parallel in the propaganda and research.
 
It’s not necessarily the case that right at this moment there’s some master cabal somewhere which is consciously planning to repeat the Nazi experiment on a far more comprehensive technocratic basis, though they often informally talk about it quite openly. But the entire history of scientism and its eugenic preoccupation, and their entire pattern of action is trending toward this goal. The entire history of their type (the history of eugenics specifically, and the control ideology among engineers in general) proves that at some point they will consciously organize to attain this genocidal totalitarian goal.
 
Today Australian regulators have taken the latest step*. Out ahead of regulators anywhere else, they have endorsed the full deregulation of all GM eugenic animal research and deployment.
 
“A new report by Friends of the Earth reveals that scientists are using these new GM techniques, such as CRISPR, to develop more muscular and disease resistant livestock that can endure intensive conditions without getting sick; and to produce animals that don’t reach sexually maturity so they eat less food.”
 
Of course animal eugenics posits only goals which are purely instrumental for capitalist productionism. From the point of view of the economic civilization animals are nothing but a resource to be exploited. (In the same way, literally all alleged “safety tests” on GMOs which have been performed by corporations and governments have focused on nothing but whether factory farmed animals being fed on GM-based feed can reach their slaughter weight without dropping dead. Self-evidently this has zero relevance for testing the safety of GM-based foods in the human diet. Governments, corporations, universities, and the media systematically lie when they propagandize that GMOs have been tested and found safe.)
 
Economic exploitation is also the primary usage of human beings, and the primary way the consciousness of civilization views them. Today’s eugenic ideologues among scientists and social Darwinists also spew the same utopian fantasies of engineering a Master Race that the Nazis did, but since this is genetically impossible the main uses of genetic engineering technology will be to engineer more useful slaves and to use gene drives, along with biological weapons and artificial famines, to exterminate everyone else. Exactly as Hitler planned to exterminate all Germans and other “Aryans” who weren’t physically perfect once the war had been won, so that the end result would be a pure bifurcation of the alleged “Master Race” and the slave races.
 
 
To sum up the schedule:
 
1. Agricultural GMOs.
 
2. GM animals.
 
3. GM humans as “medical treatment”.
 
4. GM humans as “positive” eugenics, i.e. boutique engineering of the embryos of rich rubes stupid enough to think they can turn their brats into Mozarts and Einsteins and Michael Jordans that way.
 
5. Massive social pressure upon all expectant parents to have their embryos engineered.
 
6. Coercion and the revival of negative eugenics (forced sterilizations and so on).
 
7. The full Nazi euthanasia program via genetic modification.
 
I’ve been forecasting this for years and so far everything’s happening right on schedule.
 
 
*A striking feature of the corporate-technocratic onslaught is how regulators everywhere see themselves as nothing but servants of the big corporations and seek nothing but to divest all of their own powers. That’s not historically the usual behavior of bureaucracies. It goes to show what the true role of regulatory agencies is under capitalism, and how stupid it is for anyone to still look to regulators for any kind of action whatsoever which isn’t on behalf of the corporations. You can’t “take back” or “reform” these agencies any more than you can the corporate demons themselves. I’ve written innumerable pieces on this as well. Here’s just two of them.

Elementary Notes on Bacteria

1. Bacteria are the core of most life on Earth. This has been true throughout the natural history of evolution, our bio-cultural history, and physically, today and at all times. We humans are symbiotic with our internal bacterial microbiome and dependent upon it for our physical and mental health. This is where we must start in describing the modern biological war.
 
2. Today’s bacteria are the same as the primordial bacteria, in effect the same bacteria which never died completely but continued splitting. Our symbiosis links us with this. Each of us is linked with and part of an enduring collective organism.
 
3. The human body is suffused with still-free-living bacteria (our internal microbiotia), while human cells long have been symbiotic with what used to be free bacteria (mitochondria and possibly other organelles). Lateral exchanges (horizontal genetic transfer) continue constantly. In general, complex multi-cellular organisms remain assemblages of primal microbial DNA which has changed little over time other than to collect and interlink itself more closely and symbiotically.
 
This is probably true of human consciousness as well: As neuroscience develops, the brain and nervous system are looking more and more like ramifications from primal bacterial assemblies.
 
This puts human hubris in perspective, especially the liberal/Randroid “individualist” pathology. Between the microcosmos, the impetus of bacteria and other microbes, and the planetary macrocosmos, and from there the broader universe, Homo sapiens is a tenuous, ephemeral, meaningless thing, except insofar as we give our lives meaning for ourselves. To be individualistic about it is to be even more absurd and egomaniacal.
 
This also puts idiocy like genetic engineering in perspective: The megalomaniacal lunacy of it, that such clueless puny creatures are going to murder and replace Gaia and become gods themselves; and the biological danger of it, which just like climate chaos is far more potentially disastrous to ourselves than to Gaia at large.
 
4. We’re all symbiotic with bacteria. Herbicides in the environment and diet strip us of our bacterial health maintenance, as sure as wind chill strips our cushion of air, our personal micro-atmosphere which helps regulate our body temperature. Herbicidal bacteria-killers and antibiotic abuse in factory farming and genetic engineering are trying to sunder us physically from Gaia, from our symbiosis with the permanent organism.
 
5. The emphasis on so-called “genes” is an emphasis on an arbitrary unit. This focus, which suppresses emphasis on naturally definable DNA on the one hand, or the full symbiotic organism and its communities on the other, is an attempt to expunge both ecological science and politics/culture in favor of technocracy/scientism.
 
A basic move of the junk science of genetic engineering and sociobiology is to depict “the gene” rather than DNA as the key unit of the genome. DNA, the genome as a whole, always is fluid, chaotic, unpredictable. “The gene” is supposed to sit still, remain unchanged, exert a constant predictable effect. But in reality this is a lie. There is no rigorously definable “gene”, let alone any scientific way to attribute agency (gene reductionists like Richard Dawkins are a type of animist) or causality to such an ineffable thing.
 
6. Human brains networked with bacteria comprise a larger super-organism possessing sentience. Jung expressed this with his theory of the collective unconscious. This is part of the psychological, spiritual idea and feeling of Gaia. Religiosity also arises from a potentiality and trend of the evolution of the bacteria/human brain/human social animal network, and therefore is part of Gaia. (Again, gene-based dogma is bubble-based and posits an isolated individual, and in this way seeks to smash and atomize all collective psychology and spirit.)
 
7. The technosphere is an emergent collective techno-organism with its hominid appendage, driven mainly by its own ideological logic reflected in the conscious minds of the appendages, plus a rogue bacterial strain which has become a form of aggressive vermin (the hominid appendage also is part of this vermin package). This strain operates in accord with the power-concentrating tendency of Mammon and technology.
 
James Lovelock, Lynn Margulis and others wrote of Gaia and the ecosphere, Jacques Ellul, Dmitry Orlov and others against the technosphere. The mainstream media, advertising firms, every kind of PR flack of the corporate state, comprise the technosphere’s mode of speaking, its general mode of indoctrination and propaganda. Therefore we should view propagandists, not as “wicked” but as equivalent to botulism or rabid dogs. This is precise since they are veritably the servants of such bacteria and viruses.
 
8. Agrobacterium tumefaciens is using a portion of Homo domesticus and technology to expand its domain. This includes using these to wipe out many counterbalancing bacteria in our bodies and open the terrain for a few pathogens (botulins, salmonella). Pasteurization, pesticides, antibiotic prescription abuse also are means of wiping out microbiotia and selecting for pathogens, especially those which are resistant to antibiotics. From the bacterial level we can see this as a biological war.
 
The hominids who engineer, deploy, and/or politically and culturally support GMOs and pesticides are tools of rogue bacterial evolution: 1. A. tumefaciens, 2. antibiotic resistant strains, 3. accelerated horizontal genetic transfer from and among these pathogens via supercharged genetic promoters and gene drives.
 
9. This is a thread of evolution gone berserk. A. tumefaciens plus maize, soybeans, and few other crops, plus the deranged technosphere-hominid faction, are trying to wipe out soil microbial ecology and from there all other plants. (For example, they used Agrobacterium for Xtend soybeans and cotton, in order to maximize dicamba deployment and massacre all other broadleaf plants. The proximate target is non-GM soybeans, and from there all crops and plants not technologically tolerant of dicamba.) This murder campaign is vastly greater than any intra-humanity death mission such as that of the Nazis. It seeks not just targeted genocide but total ecocide of humanity and the Earth. Humanity, of course, is inextricably part of the Gaian ecology. By definition ecocide includes total genocide, and those who seek to murder ecosystems want to exterminate humanity as well.
 
10. Such ideological notions as “the Anthropocene” or that genetic engineering is a form of conventional breeding can arise only from rogue bacterial derangement. Verily this is a biological war. We have a small but well-organized and extremely violent group of microbes, who have enlisted a small and extremely violent cadre of hominid mercenaries, launching a full scale assault against all existing ecosystems including humanity. We can either go extinct, or we can respond with our own adaptation. This has to mean organizing to fight back on the same biological level to eradicate this aggressive vermin manifestation.
 
11. Our mode of thinking and speaking seems to require that we separate reality into concepts and talk as if reality is cobbled together from separate “things”, that both physical and social reality are nothing but disaggregated atoms. This false mode wouldn’t be a lethal weakness if we could remain aware that in truth reality is not cobbled together like this but is a networked whole. But most cannot remain aware of this. So we must think, write, speak only holistically.
 
12. The constrictions of the language are reinforced because the enemy (the propaganda voice of the technosphere and the bacterial derangement) prefers the bogus construct of “the gene” (reductive, in theory technologically malleable) over DNA (too uncertain and chaotic to manipulate or even comprehend) or the whole organism (too complex to comprehend, leads toward political and social thinking which is anathema to the technocratic mentality, just as much as to the capitalist). Aristotle understood that politics is quintessentially human, which is why all bio-warfare activists hate politics, and all who want to enslave humanity hate it.
 
13. I don’t have a TV and only rarely watch at someone else’s house. But each time I do I see commercials for 23andMe. It’s a major propaganda campaign. This propaganda reruns the original racist/eugenic/Nazi program, this time with the mysticism of “blood” replaced by the pseudo-scientific mysticism of genetics. This is part of the general eugenic war plan: Agricultural GMOs, in addition to being weapons of power concentration in themselves, also are a stalking horse for GM-based animal and human eugenics.
 
14. What is the underlying biological basis of belief in corporate personhood and society’s summoning and worship of corporate demons? Or the fundamentalist cult of money? Biologically it’s destructive and self-destructive, politically and socioeconomically it’s destructive and self-destructive, psychologically it’s psychotic, religiously it’s a form of devil-worship. It’s easy to see why the destroyers of the Earth and humanity have organized themselves this way. But the broader acceptance or apathy toward corporate domination on the part of the great bulk of humanity indicates a general death wish which goes hand in hand with the death wish proven by the acceptance and apathy toward the destruction of the ecology we all depend on for our very lives. This indicates a biological poisoning and psychological cancer. The phase change in our bacterial framework, the eradication of healthy, cooperative microbiomes and their replacement with a combination of pathogens and sterility, all of this driven by the nutritional denuding and wholesale poisoning of our food, water, air, and overall environment; and the mass psychological derangement and spiritual deadening driven by all the institutions, atmospheres, ideas, and actions of modern civilization, have combined to afflict humanity with the most lethal pandemic, combined physical and psychological, in human history. It is the great existential crisis of the entire human experience.
 
15. To review:
 
A. Fossil fuels enabled the most pathological and destructive elements of human nature to run rampant. This is a reverse crippling, an alienation from intact, balanced human nature and from human holism within the ecology. This is the ultimate sundering, and the ultimate anti-ecological vermin infestation which Gaia must and shall correct by any means necessary, however harsh.
 
B. Some bacteria – A. tumefaciens, salmonella, botulins – are taking advantage. This has enabled some plants – maize, soybeans, cotton, herbicide-resistant “weeds” like Palmer amaranth and waterhemp – and insects – pesticide-resistant bollworms, rootworms, borers, and many others – to take advantage. It’s all part of the omnipresent microbial evolution. The bonfire of the fossil vanities is a release of the trapped “spirit” of long-dead plankton, algae, plants and trees.
 
C. Capitalism, Randroid individualism, scientism and technocracy are ideological reflections of this berserk drunken rampage, this kamikaze alienation. The near-universal death-wish is one of its pathologies. The Gaia-writers are mistaken to see this as continuity, and the “Anthropocene” propagandists lie about alleged continuity. But in reality it’s a non-linear break, destructive and self-destructive. The great fossil burn-off is ahistorical.
 
D. All this has powered Mammon to become a totalitarian theocracy, vastly more comprehensive, deep, profound, total than any merely political totalitarian regime ever was. And this theocracy is the perfect habitat for the pathogens and their hominid appendage organized into corporate demons to embark upon their terminal campaign of total destruction.
 
16. The only mode of defense and counterattack must meet the attack on its same ecological, biological plane. Gaia’s kinesis slowly but surely will impose the normal biological correction upon the civilization run amok. The only questions are whether Homo sapiens will survive at all, in what condition, and whether we will join this kinesis to help destroy the destroyers.
