Module 6: Using the Flowchart Tool

Step 6 focuses on creating a flow chart, a visual tool that maps out each step in a process from start to finish. Flow charts are valuable because they improve communication (especially for visual learners), and the group activity of building one ensures the team agrees on how the current process actually works.
The process of documenting steps allows teams to analyze workflows, identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies, and generate ideas for improvement. Additionally, teams are encouraged to build flow charts collaboratively (e.g., on a whiteboard with sticky notes) and focus on the main steps rather than excessive detail.
Key takeaway: A flow chart helps teams clearly understand current processes and is a critical step in identifying and planning meaningful improvements.
