You exist...so prove it
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it as long as I have to: YOUR WEBSITE MATTERS.
Social media is loud. It often washes over you. You can forget what you just saw 5 mins ago because you get into a doom scroll rhythm and the world fades away. Yeah. This happens to agents and producers and CDs and people who hire voice over actors, too. Because they’re human. But your website is where things settle.
If social platforms are how people find you, your website is where they decide whether to hire you. And yet, this is the piece most actors treat like an afterthought.
What your website is (and is not)
Your website is not:
a personal diary
a design experiment
a dumping ground for everything you’ve ever done
Your website is:
a credibility anchor
a reference point
a place decisions get made
It should feel calm, clear, and intentional.
Social platforms change and algorithms shift and sometimes Aaccounts disappear entirely. Even though you have some control over your social accounts, you don’t have COMPLETE control over them. Your website is the one place you control entirely.
When someone clicks your link, they’re asking:
Is this person legit?
Can I find what I need quickly?
Do I trust them enough to reach out?
Does it all make sense?
If the answer isn’t immediate, they leave.
3 things your website has to do well
You do not need a massive site. You need three things working correctly.
1. Your audio
Your audio should:
be easy to find
be labeled clearly
load quickly on desktop AND mobile
No scavenger hunt or anything clever.
2. Your social proof
Social proof reduces risk.
This can be:
testimonials
logos
client quotes
short case studies
One or two strong pieces beat a long list every time. If you do testimonials, keep ‘em short for the love of all things.
3. A clear way to get in touch with you
People should not have to guess how to reach you. For fuck sake! PUT YOUR EMAIL AT THE TOP OF YOUR WEBSITE. I don’t care if you already have an email button. I don’t care if your email is in your footer. I don’t care if you have a contact form. I DO NOT CARE. If someone can’t email you immediately, they’ll likely pass and that’s a DUMB ASS reason to be passed on.
If reaching out feels hard, they won’t do it.
Socials + your website = a good team
Social media creates interest. Your website confirms trust. And this is why CLARITY and your links matter. Every platform should lead somewhere solid and answer the questions of who you are, what you do, and how you help.
You do not need a full redesign.
Today, focus on:
updating one audio
clarifying one page
tightening one paragraph
Progress beats perfection.
