a paper bird
short works from my notes archive
I wanted to set up a more permanent home for the short works that live within my Substack notes. This idea was inspired by JC's Subnotae volumes. These round-ups will be based on a theme (spring, like this one) or style. This collection a paper bird takes its title from a line by Vicente Aleixandre: a paper bird inside the breast / says the time for kisses is still not here. thank you for reading — Sx
I am busy eating flowers mind your own business I have buds to grow blooms to unfurl I’m bringing a shot of colour to the world
Birdsong.
It’s cold
I open the window
to hear the birds.
they lift me up,
carry me off
on an undulating stave
of the sweetest
birdsong.haiku
beautiful magpie
tapping at my window, what
twinkling caught your eyepetals on the tongue.
how do you think petals on the tongue taste?
the sweetest sugar,
a ray of sunlight hitting the forest floor.A Desire for Radishes
I was upside down in crab
tending my 30x30cm plot
of radishes
you tickled my belly
I remember the sun
on your hair —
corten
and where you
touched me:
patina

Okay I love these little poems so much and I also think the idea is brilliant to give all the little notes a place to nest.
Suzie! So glad you decided to put this together. “A Desire for Radishes” is a standout piece. Excited to see more of these from you 🖤
