An indie electro pop line up, the Game Awards, New York, the first virtual live performance, a debuting new single, epic staging, dreamlike lighting, a cult following of gamers and four characters, stars of their own origin story, We are OFK.
The studio collaborated with Team OFK to stage the first live performance for their virtual band, We are OFK, the namesake and main focus in their narrative-led video game. For this campaign video, the studio were tasked with debuting the band at the iconic Game Awards in New York and simultaneously showcasing their new single ‘Follow/ Unfollow’.
"In the world of animation it's not very often you get an opportunity to feel like a rockstar in a band...but working on this project with the wonderful OFK team, we really felt a part of the luscious musical world they were building. It's like we were on stage, jamming along, with an egg shaker or something."
Stephen Middleton, Creative Director at Art&Graft
To recreate the anticipation before a live performance, the studio team played with onstage lighting and opened with the silhouettes of the band, subtle rim lights outlining their equipment.
In turn, the team had to consider how to recreate a digital version of the Games Awards space, which they achieved by pixelating the onstage screen and designing a series of light-emanating discs for the floor and ceiling.
"Art&Graft created a stunning performance for our virtual band that fit our aesthetic and character perfectly, with a level of cinematic glimmer that we still gawk at! The performance itself was hugely well-received, and we still get comments on the lighting, camerawork, animation, and color work. All that, in a collaborative work process that was smooth and communicative. Art&Graft are talented artists and fully kind humans, a combo OFK would like to work with again and again!"
Teddy Dief, Director at We are OFKThe team drew on contemporary live performances as inspiration for the camera angles and edit, choosing only perspectives that were possible in a real world environment to ad an authenticity to the sequence. Similarly, that same research fed directly into the character animation combining emotionally-charged vocal performances with smartly choreographed loops.
Adding character to the mobile network's first TV campaign.
An adventure into animated advertising, a phone network with an outrageously good deal, an internal workshop character who inspired an unimpressed shop keeper, two stories, two films, two ridiculous narratives, lipsyncing to vo, performance and timing, 2D sketches to 3D build, a killer tagline.
Meet the Blooms, a normal pair just like you and me.
Centre stage, two become four, 2D to 3D character development, a couple of lightbulb moments, 30 seconds that covers a whole chapter of life, a wardrobe of tactile textures, models to motion, from to do, to ta-da!
Our ode to West Coast Americana cinema. In one shot.
One shot wonder, a cast of Hollywood archetypes, West Coast modernist homes, a cadillac, a familiar plot in new aesthetic, years of cinema-going condensed into two compelling minutes.
From the dying embers of our planet smoulders the studio team’s latest creation.
An ill-advised experiment in future-tourism, hundreds of unlikely motion-captured creatures resurrected, a group of scientists pushing at the boundaries of time and nature, a family of unwitting guests missing.
