A filmic narrative from forest floor to surf, a colony of leafcutter ants, the great unknowns of coastal exploration, beautiful environments in rich greens and blues, an epic adventure in micro scale, one ant going against the grain, a triumphant film about finding one’s own way.
Art&Graft worked with the teams at McGarrah Jesse and Costa to imagine a story for their latest campaign: ‘See What’s Out There’.
"From our first phone call with Art&Graft, we knew we were in great hands and that confidence never diminished throughout the entire process.
Mike and his team brought an extraordinary amount of skill, wisdom, and diligence to the table which resulted in an epic result for all. I can’t wait to work with them again."
Joel Clement, Creative Director at McGarrah Jessee
The focus of the project was to capture this sentiment for the brand, rather than a product feature and so the studio team set about creating a fully fledged story. Centering on the character of Leafy – a Leafcutter Ant who goes against the grain, the 130 second film weaves between the forest floor and the ocean surf.
"This film was commissioned right off the back of our Sparks project, The Walk, which was hugely satisfying for us - we always want those Sparks projects to inspire others and for brands to recognise something of value within them. But we didn’t want to make the same film twice either and so we convinced their team to pull this film into an entirely 3D character pipeline which gave us a much more flexibility in contracting this epic journey."
Tom Bromwich, Head of Production at Art&Graft
We also produced a behind-the-scenes film to illustrate the character development of Leafy and his ant colony.
