Work Text:

"Rodney!" John hissed. "Why is all of SG-1 here? Even Mitchell and Jonas Quinn came with them!"

"What?" Rodney squawked. Then reddened. "Umm... maybe I bragged to Sam that you and I were getting married?"

"Rodney!" John sighed. Although John understood the impulse. But everyone he wanted to brag to was already on Atlantis.

"It's not like I expected them all to come," Rodney protested, throwing up his hands.

"O'Neill did say they were here on R&R, so it's not official," John said.

"One good thing," Rodney replied. "Although I suspect Woolsey is in a small tizzy."

John grinned. "Not that anyone would notice." Woolsey's calm demeanor had helped the city out a number of times.

"True," Rodney laughed.

"Well, Ronon and Teal'c have gone off to do some warrior bonding, and Teyla has roped Jonas into meeting Torren and the Athosians," John sighed.

"I set Miko on Daniel, to talk about the Ancient database," Rodney admitted. "Maybe they can figure something out together." He shrugged. "And Sam and Radek are poking at the ZedPM work Jeannie did, since she'll be here tomorrow."

"Okay, Lorne can take Mitchell out in a Jumper. That should work." John thought for a moment. "Oh! I can set Sargent Matias on O'Neill," John added. "The mess said they had room for another not-tuna in cold storage."

Rodney nodded. "Although I don't think O'Neill wants to actually catch anything."

"Anything to keep him busy," John said. "All of them." And keep them away from John and Rodney. Good thing the wedding was in two days.

"Amen," Rodney agreed.

Which all worked until the next day, the night before the ceremony. All of SG-1 dropped their trays around John and Rodney at dinner. Jeannie grinned and sat between Daniel and Jonas. (John wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. He'd have to ask Rodney. Later.)

"Umm... Hi?" John winced.

"Sheppard, while I enjoyed the fishing," O'Neill said, (and he was part of the platoon it took to actually land a not-tuna, which was why there were steaky fillets on the menu tonight) "we really did come out for the wedding."

"Just wanted to make sure everyone was having a good time," John said.

"Clever of you to put us all to work," Sam grinned. "Although it is nice to work on something different."

"No one made you do anything you didn't want to do," Rodney pointed a fork in O'Neill's direction. "You could have said no and done your own thing."

"True," O'Neill nodded. "Although, now that we're here and you've made us all useful, there's no reason you both can't take some time off for a honeymoon."

John felt himself blush. "We planned to spend a couple of nights on the mainland," John admitted. "We've built half a dozen cabins. They're not too far from the water but a ways from the Athosian settlement. And, they're far enough apart for privacy but close enough together in case there are problems. They let folk have somewhere to go off the city without having to leave the planet."

"What's it like?" Jeannie asked.

"A step up from camping," Rodney admitted. "Solar heated water for showers and washing up, more solar for heat and lights, a wood stove for basic cooking and a fire pit. It's a pack-in/pack-out for anything that's garbage but there's a composting toilet for body waste."

"Sounds nice, actually," O'Neill said thoughtfully.

"The folk in the mess will pack food for you, so you can do as much or as little work as you'd like," Rodney added. "We'll probably get some of the not-tuna to take. It's really good over an open fire."

"Woolsey's admin Katrina schedules the cabins," John said. "See what might be available, if you want."

"I just may do that," O'Neill replied. "But we'll let you have at least an extra day."

"You don't have to..." John started but gave up when O'Neill glared. "Thank you."

"Is there a, I think the phrase is, stag party?" Jonas asked looking interested. "I've never been to an Earth party and was hoping there would be one."

"We officially do not know anything about a party," John admitted. "But, well, if you hang around for a bit, there will be something tonight. But not too crazy, we want to have fun tomorrow."

Jonas nodded. "I look forward to it."

John was glad he had told Lorne to make sure that, if there was a party tonight, to keep it down to a dull roar. Or to at least let him and Rodney be able to duck out at a reasonable hour. He really did want a decent night's sleep. And he didn't want to be hung over when he got married.

Everyone on the city had been invited to the stag party and adding the not-tuna to the food stores had let the mess be generous with the party food. John herded Rodney out at an early hour and let the party go on without them. The last John had seen him, Jonas seemed to be having fun.

"Shouldn't we like, spend the night apart?" Rodney asked as they climbed into bed together.

"Do you want to?" John asked, surprised.

"Nah, just... thinking too much with my Earth brain," Rodney grinned.

"I'll give you Earth brain," John growled as he brought Rodney close.

The next morning, John was startled to find O'Neill standing at the front of the room instead of Richard Woolsey.

Daniel leaned in. "Jack pulled rank," Daniel admitted. "Although Woolsey was a good sport about it."

"O-o-kay," John drawled.

John was glad there wasn't a procession or anything. He grabbed Rodney's hand to drag him away from a conversation with Sam. They stood in front of O'Neill, who grinned at them.

Ronon stepped up next to John and Jeannie was next to Rodney. John knew anyone that couldn't leave their post was watching over the city viewing system.

"Thank you all for coming to this celebration of life," O'Neill said with a wide smiel. "I am very pleased to get to do this." John and Rodney had settled on a variation of the traditional vows. At the end, O'Neill said, "By the power vested in me by the Universal Life Church, I now pronounce you married!"

John snickered.

"Hey! Shouldn't there be some kissing?" O'Neill asked, waving a hand between them.

"Yes, sir!" John nodded, bringing Rodney close for a warm kiss. A cheer and some whistling went through the crowd.

"Now the party can begin!" O'Neill called.

"Or continue," Rodney said, under his breath.

The mess had used a month's worth of flour to make a wedding cake. Jeannie had brought a topper with two men kissing each other. Mitchell had brought four cases of whiskey and two cases of champagne, which were greatly appreciated. Radek had organized multiple photographers, to ensure a selection for John and Rodney to pick from.

After multiple toasts, a handful of speeches, and too much cake, John and Rodney made their way to the Jumper they would be taking to the mainland. Someone had draped the Jumper in streamers, which made John feel warm. That someone, or several someones, would go to the trouble of decorating a Jumper for them was a pleasant surprise.

Jeannie, Teyla, and Ronon saw them off. Hugs were exchanged and then John and Rodney got into the Jumper.

In the air, John took Rodney's hand. "That went well," John smiled.

"It was fun," Rodney admitted. "But I'm looking forward to having some time with just the two of us."

"I agree," John nodded. "Although, I did hear one very interesting piece of information from Katrina."

"This has to be good," Rodney laughed. "Katrina never tells secrets."

"Well, she was asking about military protocols," John admitted.

"Oh?" Rodney looked intrigued.

"Well, O'Neill asked about reserving a cabin for a couple of days," John said. "After we got back."

"And..."

"And he asked about three in a cabin," John grinned. "Himself, Daniel Jackson, and Sam Carter."

Rodney's peals of laughter filled the Jumper.

Notes:

I have one more McSheplet for tomorrow, which is technically past the end of the fest, but the best way to end Romancing McShep 2025 was with a wedding!
