How to become a full-time creator without relying on a massive social media following
Yes, you read that right! I mapped out a crystal-clear path of how to transition into full-time creator mode and navigate the ups and downs of income stability.
The reason I am sure this is possible is because that has been my life story.
Let me take you back a bit. My journey started back in 2011 as a photographer. Weddings, portraits, events - you name it, I shot it. But despite my passion for storytelling, the money wasn't exactly rolling in. I was doing okay, making a hundred bucks here, two-fifty there.
Fast forward to 2016, fresh out of university, I decided to take a different route. Instead of diving into the traditional 9-to-5 grind, I pursued my MFA in filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. But let's get down to the nitty-gritty - how did I turn my passion into a profitable career?
1. The Dream Pie:
This simple yet powerful tool helped me structure my financial goals, plan my income streams, and pave the way for the future I wanted. By breaking down my income into urgent, important, not urgent, and not important categories, you will gain clarity on how to achieve your financial targets. You might be wondering, ‘Where do I find clients willing to pay top dollar for my services?’ Cue platforms like Upwork and Fiverr. These digital marketplaces connect freelancers with clients, making it easier to land gigs and build a solid portfolio. That’s where I got a lot of good gigs when I was just starting.
3. Niche down and Offer Value:
Niche down and become an expert in at least two categories in your field. Strengthen your skills to ensure that you are offering the most value to your clients and community. This way, you can leverage on client referrals to contribute to your income streams.
