Here's their next move: The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, would obliterate any semblance of online privacy in the United States.

So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Vote "No" on Prop 26, Pass It On!

Proposed legislation in Mississippi, USA threatens hard won women's rights. (You can read more about it HERE and see a more conservative point of view that still advocates voting no on the proposition HERE) But there is something you can do to help that doesn't require money, or marching, or even a great deal of time - but it can still make an enormous difference!

I'd like to introduce the Say "No" to Prop. 26, Pass It On! video project. Our goal is to present images of real men and women who oppose Prop. 26 and their reasons why - to remind people that this proposed legislation will have consequences that will affect everyday people just like them.

To do this we will virtually pass each other a "Vote No" logo that says, “Vote No on Prop. 26 Because…” And it is up to you to finish that statement on the back of your sign.

It can be with a phrase, short quote, art, original graphic…you name it. It can be words or pictures as long as it’s a reason people should vote "No" on Prop. 26.

We'll be accepting video clips until October 19, 2011. We apologize for the short time frame, but we need to get the video out in time to make a difference before the vote on November 8th, 2011.

Here's What To Do:
1. Print out THIS SIGN.

2. Put your reason on the back of your sign. We recommend putting the reason on a separate sheet of paper and then stapling it to the back of the sign to prevent your reason from showing through the front of the sign.

3. Set up your camera to begin filming. When filming:

a) Reach to your right (your right, not "camera right"), as if taking the sign from the person before you. The page should already be in your hand off screen.
b) Pull the page in front of your chest, with the "Vote No Because..." logo facing the camera.
c) Flip the page to show the other side with your response, and hold it there for about 3-5 seconds so the response can be read.
d) Flip the page back to show the logo.
e) Pass the page to the left as if passing it to the next person in line.

Remember that if you don't want to show your face, you don't have to. Zoom your camera in to just show your hands. If you can't zoom, let us know you don't want your face seen, and we will edit it out in the editing process.

4. Email your video clip to Remember8thOfNovember@gmail.com with "Say No, Pass It On" in the subject line.

5. Include your city/state/country of residence in your email, so that it can be included in the video information. Note that we will not include your name, we only want the locations so we can show how this issue affects people all over the country/world.

6. Sit back and wait for the editing team to do their stuff! Once the clips are all edited together and set to music, the video will be posted on youtube and various websites to raise awareness about Prop. 26. The most frightening thing about this proposed legislation is how little the media is covering it. We may also send DVDs to Oprah and The Ellen Degeneres Show.

7. The deadline to submit a clip is October 19, 2011. We apologize for the short time frame, but we need to get the video out in time to make a difference before the vote on November 8th, 2011.

Some Other Things to Keep In Mind:

• Each video segment should be 15 seconds or shorter.
• Videos should be shot from the waist up.
• Responses should be kept short and relatively specific. Long responses are difficult to read, and vague ones are not persuasive.
• Responses should be kept clean. No profanity or graphic nudity please.
• Try to incorporate location specific items, like flags or posters. Or even better, go outside! We will get a lot of inside shots because many people will be using webcams, so if you have the ability to record outside, do It! Especially if you live near recognizable landmarks.

Mississippi Personhood Amendment

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

I'm reposting this from pristineungift, who brought this to my attention.

The current developments in american politics and in the legal system make me fear for democracy, to be honest. This is just another of many examples of what is going wrong. I have the feeling especially concerning social rights America is headed towards the Middle Ages instead of the 21st century. Maybe this was always like that and I simply wasn't aware, but even so it's time to stop this. There are enough problems and injustices in the world that we have to overcome...

I was pondering for a while if I should make another friend's cut and now I did.

Most of the cut journals unfortunately are inactive now, but I also cut some you who have been on my flist for a long time. But I felt that either we have grown apart or I felt that although we have been friends for a while we rarely really talked.
Some of you never commented on my journal, while I tried and commented on yours. Maybe not as often as I should have...

210. 83rd Academy Awards

This years Academy Awards were amazing. The show in itself was little surprising and I'm not sure I like the facelift they are trying to give the show, but the movies this year were quite amazing. I hadn't had a year since Lord of The Rings when I was that excited about the show.

Also this was the first time I could actually watch it while being online and I tweeted and chatted until my fingers hurt. *lol* Which is much much more fun than watching it alone. :D

The Fashion

I found the dresses to be quite boring this year. Yes, there were beautiful dresses, but the majority just didn't impress me and on almost every look I found something I didn't like. Which is quite unusual for Oscar-fashion. But also the worst dresses were not really entertainingly ugly, but just bleh.

Here are the worst looks:

Michelle Williams' dress did nothing good for her. Her figure looks strange, her skin looks dead, and the pearls on her dress made the thing look like a grannies bathing cap.

Gwyneth Paltrow, what are you doing? The fabric of the dress looks cheap and such a slim-fitting cut with that cleavage demands CURVES. But Gwyneth, you have none, so get out of that dress. Her hair and make-up also looked boring. And please, next time, make sure your hairline doesn't grow out. That look is a complete disaster. Even Sharon Stone with her feathery something looked better.

Nicole Kidman, I'm so disappointed with you. I know you can do much much better. I love the embroidery on her dress, but the shape is just weird. I usually like structured dresses, but this simply doesn't work. And the shoes don't match at all. What was she thinking?
Also her hair is lame and does nothing for the look. It just looks like she ran out of to time to get her hair done.

But there were some lovely looks as well. Here they are:

Florence Welch looks stunning. I love her vintage dresses and with her hair she pulls them off without looking broing or old. The only complaint I have about this look that it is almost the same she wore at the other award shows this winter.

Hailee Steinfeld has my favorite look of the evening. She looks so lovely in her Marchesa-dress, truly like a princess. And what I find very charming, she looks age appropriate but still gourgeous. The dress, the shoes, the hair, the make-up - she looks perfect! Yup, favorite look of the evening. Also I was hoping she'd win "Best Actress in a Supporting Role" (which actually was a lead role, but nevermind), because she was AMAZING in "True Grit".

Natalie Portman looked stunning as well. I loved the tassle-earrings and her beautiful flowing Rodarte-dress. However I couldn't help but compare that look to Jessica Alba's pregnant Oscar-look in 2008 and Jessica looked even better in her purple dress.

Amy Adams looked dashing in her blue sparkly robe. Between all the reds, blacks and nudes this really was a highlight. Only the green jewellery wasn't the best pick. Her hair could have been a little more red, because it looked a bit washed out on the blue, but all in all her hairstyle was lovely with the dress and she really pulled it of.

Hilary Swank's dress is a dream. It sparkles, it has feathers and the fading color is amazing. She looked like a princess. The simple updo and jewellery made the dress shine. Lovely!

Helena Bonham Carter is a queen and she knows it. And that picture says it all. Go Helena and your wicked fashion sense!

The Show

I was quite skeptical about James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosting the show. Anne was charming and her song for Hugh Jackman aka Huge Jackass was one of the highlights of the show. James... well, he was there I guess.
Overall Anne had her moments, but overall it was bit boring. I think the most important host-moment is the speech in the beginning, where they make fun of the nominees and people attending. And that did not happen. Yeah and that pretty much says it all, it was all very tame, although the opening clip promised something different.

Otherwise this year there were little emotional highlights. Christian Bale made me tear up most to be honest.

Also this year there was only one political statement in a speech, which I think was a missed opportunity, regarding the fact of what is going on in the world at the moment.

My personal highlight of the show that didn't have to do with the winners was Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem presenting an award dress in white tuxedos, OMG.

I fangirled so hard. It was so random, but still my personal show-highlight. :D

The Winners

CHRISTIAN BALE.

FINALLY. FUCKIN' FINALLY. He was so often ignored by the Academy (he should have been at least nominated for "American Psycho", "the Machinist", "Rescue Dawn" and if Denzel Washington got an Oscar for "Training Day", he deserved one for "Harsh Time"), but finally he got the recognition he deserves.
I was so afraid of Geoffrey Rush winning (who was great too), but when Reese announced Christian's name... I was indescribably happy. There is still some justice in the world. It was definetly the best moment of the evening.

I really wanted Hailee Steinfeld to win, but Melissa Leo's speech was so charming that I don't hold a grudge there.

Natalie Portman and Colin Firth won well deserved and I'm really happy for them. All hail the King, the Swan Queen and Jesus:

Also "The King's Speech" is a well deserved winner of "Best Picture". Although I often would have preferred another movie to win, the only real disappointments were "Best Song" and "Best Score". Sorry, but "We Blong Together" is HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. And Hans Zimmer was robbed. His score for "Inception" is breathtaking and all kinds of awesome. He should have won.

But apart from these two categories I can live with all the winners. :) It was a good evening.
And 13 of 24 of my predicitons (which are now updated with all the winners) were right. Not a bad score, I guess.

All in all these were the most entertaining Oscars in a while although there were no big surprises. I can only hope that next year will be this amazing as well.
