Inherently decentralized and implementable, it puts emphasis on incentives rather than forcing specific sharing rules from the outset. Analyzing the non-cooperative game the protocol induces, we identify a robust, strict, and Pareto-dominant symmetric equilibrium. In it, even self-centered participants show extensive systemic reciprocity. Thus, despite a setting that is generally unfavorable to reciprocal behavior, the protocol enables users to build trust between themselves by taking on a role akin to a social contract.\n <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3641120","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,24]],"date-time":"2024-01-24T12:16:32Z","timestamp":1706098592000},"page":"1-26","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Blockchain-based Decentralized Reward Sharing: The Case of Mining Pools"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"12","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1140-4495","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jens","family":"Gudmundsson","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Food and Resource Economics, University of Copenhagen, Frederiksberg C, Denmark"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2910-5741","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jens Leth","family":"Hougaard","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Food and Resource Economics, University of Copenhagen, Frederiksberg C, Denmark"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,3,11]]},"reference":[{"issue":"3","key":"e_1_3_3_2_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"219","DOI":"10.1111\/1467-9280.00441","article-title":"Procrastination, deadlines, and performance: Self-control by precommitment","volume":"13","author":"Ariely Dan","year":"2002","unstructured":"Dan Ariely and Klaus Wertenbroch. 2002.
