Leela of the Sevateem [Doctor Who]
01 January 2020 @ 02:00 pm
This is a general contact post for Leela. Get in touch if you're interested in playing with her.

I also welcome constructive criticism and advice, as well as canon corrections whenever necessary. No one is infallible, and, although this is my interpretation of the character, I welcome input from other fans and writers. It’s always good to know what works and what doesn’t.

Comments are screened, just in case, but you're very welcome to contact me on AIM or by email if you prefer. The details are all in my journal profile.

I can also be reached fairly easily via my personal journal, atraphoenix, but please keep in mind that I live in the UK and operate on GMT.

“The machine is working. What should I say, K-9?”

“Tell them that they have reached Leela and that you are currently unavailable. If they wish to leave a message, you will return it as soon as possible.”

“Well, I don’t need to say it now, do I? You’ve said it for me!”

“On Earth, it is traditional for the owner of the machine to record their message themselves, Mistress. Or to use a reputedly humorous recording of a celebrity.”

“A celebrity? What is ..? Oh, fine! You have reached ...” [Pause.] “Why is that light flashing, K-9?”

“You are running out of room for your message, Mistress.”

“What do I press?”

“Press the ...” [There is a whine of static, as Leela presses a button at random.] “... red button, Mistress.”

[Message ends.]

Leela was bored. Not only bored, but frustrated and angry and filled with fear for the friends they'd left behind on Gallifrey. It was difficult to measure the passage of time on the unnamed planetoid where they sheltered, but even an hour would have been too long in this place of silence and secrets.

She was a warrior. For a few weeks, the war on Gallifrey had allowed her to feel useful. Even blind, she had been able to defend Romana from her enemies. She had not been alone. She had belonged. Now, however, she was all but helpless. The war was not over and there were many battles left to fight, but she could not throw herself into the fray. If Romana had a plan - if Romana knew where they were - then she had chosen to keep it from Leela.

Time passed sluggishly and Leela's impatience grew with every new day. She lifted her knife from her belt, feeling the weight of it in her hand. She knew it well. Every mark in the blade and imperfection on the handle was dear to her, a token of a battle that she'd fought and won. She longed to make use of it again.

- A partial merger with Oliver Day and the Tenth Doctor. Some of the technology of the Axis - which is Gallifreyan in design, but different from what would be seen on Gallifrey itself - can now be found in Ten's TARDIS. Roundels and parts of the TARDIS console room can be found in the chambers of the Axis.

So you wish to play me once more? Good! I have grown tired of waiting. I cannot protect Romana if I am sitting idle in your head!

You must find her quickly. And do not tell me that you do not know where to look! She must be in one of these 'games'. I am certain of it.

As Leela ran, she looked behind her and saw a darting shape, gathering speed and pulling closer. The branches would not hold him up for long. Soon, she would be caught.

The children of the Sevateem liked to play games. It was a way to pass the time before they became true warriors, as well as a chance to test their skills. Leela learned more on the battlefield of the playground than she ever did at her father’s knee. She learned how to take a punch without flinching. She learned how to kick and twist and read a person’s next move from the contours of their face.

She also learned that boys were truly exasperating.Collapse )

The coordinator of the CIA was not having a very good day. He’d been impeached, arrested, released after some excellent political manoeuvring, reinstated, kidnapped, imprisoned and was now sitting in a dark cell with the Presidential bodyguard in his lap.

Wait, what?

“Leela!” he exclaimed, “What on Gallifrey ..? What are you doing?”Collapse )

Prompt: Romance

“I don’t like being followed.”

At first, Leela didn’t realise the Master was actually talking to her. She was an expert tracker and she wasn’t used to being caught. She contemplated pressing herself into the shadows and remaining silent, but the dark figure ahead was now watching her with his hands on his hips, so it was probably a little redundant.

“Ah,” he said, when she stepped out into the light, “Romana’s little savage.”Collapse )

Prompt: Villain
