At the urging of amsdia I've decided to update my journal (if only to create an extra snippet for her to read). Unfortunately, seeing as how there have been a lack of exciting things occuring in my life, this update is going to be somewhat boring.

For starters, I've graduated. Yay! I'm glad that I no longer have to be unwillingly looking at my computer screen typing out words like "right-wing authoritarianism" and "one-way MANOVA" a few hundred times while trying to think of reasonable explanations as to why (to put it simply) my experiment was a failure. I'm also enjoying my little break at the moment, while ignoring the fact that I need to go get a job. Soon.

I've been having a headache that *refuses* to go away. Go see a doctor you moron, I hear you say. Well I did but the fact remains I still have this damn headache. Go see a COMPETENT doctor you moron, I hear you say. Well, there's an idea! (Truth is, I'm just lazy *wink*)

Like I said, not very many exciting things happen in my life (and I believe that the above-mentioned paragraphs are hardly riveting), so I'll end here for now. What say you, I update this in another 2 months time? *ducks from amsdia's flying objects*

P.S.: Cookie Monster I love you!

I've just finished reading Naked Empire by Terry Goodkind. It was released a while back, but for some reason, I did not buy the book until a few days ago. I thoroughly enjoyed the book except for the bit, where it ended. Admittedly, it's not his best piece of writing (the earlier books were better). Nevertheless, it was an amazing book. I love it when authors manage to transport me into their world, where I can experience and live the story, the way the characters do. I don't want to just read, I want to be transformed (yes, I'm crazy like that).

I wish I had that gift, that ability...to be able to capture my readers' attention and draw them into my world, where they can be someone else, if only for a moment. Too many people are caught up with what's happening around them, that they forget the pleasure that can be derived from reading. And what a wonderful gift it would be to able to provide an escape for people through words! (cue amsdia)

I am not suggesting that we should stop living our lives and throw ourselves into our books, not at all. I am merely putting forward the notion that perhaps if we indulged our minds the same way we indulged our bodies, we might be better off.

/end rambling.

Yes, no, or maybe?

I really want to get a paid account so I can fiddle around some more. I would also love to get my hands on Photoshop or Adobe so I can create better looking pictures.

I made some chocolate yesterday, and half of it is already gone. I'll probably end up spending it with a bottle of wine at home hehe. Or I might stay over at her place and celebrate it there. It's still a long way away; besides what's the big deal about it anyway? Another year...so what?

Oh the weather was beautiful yesterday and today's weather is even more gorgeous. Unfortunately, there's thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow, and rain is expected to continue for the next 3 days or so - what kind of summer is this exactly?

If there are any Harry Potter <strike>freaks</strike> fans out there, any theories on Aunt Petunia? JK Rowling admitted during the Edinburgh Book Festival that there is more to her than meets the eye; she also said Petunia is not a squib although that's a very good guess. Any guesses? Anyone? And yes, I know I'm obsessed.
Ima terrified my beloved Moony is going to get killed off, although it's very likely. Why else would Ms Rowling make special mention of Wormtail's silver hand? *wails* IDONTWANTHIMTODIE!!!! *clears throat* Sorry. Well, as Mad-Eye Moody would say, "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!"
In other news, I have decided to count my blessings from now on. It's so hard to focus on the positives in my life sometimes, when the world I live in seems so materialistic and shallow. It's easy to get sucked into the whole "I must look good to feel good and I must be filthy rich" thing. But no more. I shall be happy for my blessings - I am pretty enough, I am smart enough and I am rich enough, especially rich in the wealth that I have in the form of my wonderful family and friends. I am able to walk, talk, see, listen, and sense. I am able to go outside and enjoy the sunshine (or rain, since it's Melbourne) and take in the beauty of nature.

2nd day of summer - still windy, and there was still a little bit of rain in the earlier hours of the day. It's definitely warmer now, much more to my liking *nodnod* Apparently, the weather's supposed to be beautiful during the weekend. Too bad I'm not going anywhere.

I got my full licence today! No more driving around with those unsightly P plates. Now all there's left for me to do is find a car.
The strange thing is that the expiry date is on the 29th of April next year, which is the date of my probational expiry for my NSW licence. I'm a bit confuzzled as to how VicRoads operates, needless to say.

Ooooh, I bought some clothes today - the skirt that I mentioned in my earlier post and a top to go with it. And a tailor whom I saw reckons he can fix my favourite pair of jeans (that sorta tore due to me wearing them out), and if he can do that - whoopdeedoo!!

One of my friends here called me yesterday night and asked me if I wanted to go to a New Years Eve party. Apparently it's a cocktail party held at a posh place, and it's by the riverside somewhere so you can see the fireworks. It's also a very popular event and tickets usually sell out very quickly. Oh, and and one ticket costs $90 *blink* My friend, however, being the sweetheart that she is, said that she would pay for me (me being eternally broke and all) if we end up going. She's having a think about it, and she's not sure because tickets go on sale tomorrow, and to be honest, NYE is a really long way away. It's kinda silly to purchase tickets to an event more than 3 weeks away, and who knows if we can make it? What if something crops up?

If people are wondering why I'm updating my LJ more often, it's because I'm on vacation and I don't have a job. Yet. Hopefully, I'll get one soon. Here's hoping anyway. Until then, I'll happily find something to write about in my LJ. Not that many people read it anyway. And amsdia, whom I know reads it regularly, knows about all the things happening in my life anyway, since she's usually the first person I gab everything to.

Anyway, I'm off to prepare dinner...I've no idea what I'm making just yet, but seeing that I only happen to have chicken in my freezer, it'll have to be chicken somethingortheother. Till tomorrow then!

I was just thinking about the Death Eaters in the Potterverse - Death Eaters support Voldie (Oooh Ralph Fiennes as Voldie *purrs*). Now, what's Voldie's ambition (if you could call it that)? To get rid of all the muggle-borns and half-muggles, and to be a dictator (he wouldn't be a bad guy otherwise).

Sooooo, in other words, he's prejudiced. And so are the Death Eaters. That means they're all bloody right-wing authoritarians. Sort of like Johnny boy or Bush Jr - not that they have actually taken the questionnaire, but if they did I'm pretty sure they would score highly as a right-wing authoritarian.

Where are a lot of Death Eaters from? That's right, the Slytherin house. Does that mean that students from Slytherin tend to be more prejudiced than others? Now, I'm not saying all Slytherins are Death Eaters, but it seems to me that all Death Eaters are Slytherins.

I should have asked the Death Eaters to be participants in my study eh?

Soooooooo, it's the first day of August. This means that my thesis is due in 2 1/2 months. Not good. Not good at all.

Ann (my supervisor) wants to see my draft on the 18th of this month. She'll be lucky if she manages to get two words out of me.

Strangely enough, I'm not stressing. Maybe my hormones are messing with me, but I'm not stressing. I've decided to go with my plan of attack. Instead of worrying about not having enough references, like I was doing before, I am now going to:

Print all the articles

Read all the articles

Understand what it is the articles are saying

Synthesise main points

Start writing draft

Present draft to Ann, who will proceed to tell me it's pretty bad, but then will hopefully take pity on me, and help me out and give me ideas, which then leads to -

Refinement of ideas/concepts

Searching for articles that deal with refined ideas/concepts, then print, read and understand articles

Writing draft

Rewriting

Rewriting

Rewriting

Err...and so on, until the 15th of October

And ta-daa!! That's it for the thesis.

How does that sound?

<lj:music>Travis - Why does it always rain on me?</lj:music>

It's been pouring since 6am. And it's been windy, and cold too...dreadful weather. The wonderful thing is that similar weather is expected for the weekend. Yay...

On another note, remember how I said I would only update the journal next year? Well, I lied. And do you remember how I said I was logging off so that I could get some work done? I lied again. There you go, I did mention that you shouldn't believe everything you read :p

All I did yesterday was bum. I sat on my big fat arse and watched tv and ate. I set goals for myself everyday: "All right, Tina, today you have to do this, this and this". But yesterday, they just flew out the window...what goals? And what has happened today? I have yet to start on my goals (extra goals today since I have yesterday's goals as well). I plan to get to them eventually but not just yet. I think I'm sabotaging myself...the self-fulfilling prophecy.

Sigh. I wish I was on a holiday.

Signing off now, roger. Over.

I have finally created a livejournal account for myself. Don't expect regular updates though - I've never been good at that. Hell, I couldn't even keep a diary for more than 3 days :)

I've been awake since 6am, and right now I'm watching an early episode of Home Improvement. I used to love that show, I still do...one of those classic shows that you don't get sick of, unlike the new comedies that aren't even funny.

Anyway I'm off to do some work now (surprise, surprise..I actually do work). I'll update this sometime next year :p
