Unbefuckinglievable!
YouTube has age restricted two of my videos for w h a t.....?
This came a few days ago: Hi Andy Romanoff,
“It looks like Early 70s. H.R. Cohen, Ken Kesey, Nick Ray, Alternative Media Conference, Earth Day in Union Square may not be appropriate for younger audiences under our Community Guidelines. We placed an age restriction on it.”
What? Now we are censoring 8mm movies of life in the sixties and seventies from younger audiences? Nah, it can’t be I think, so I file a protest, and then this morning another email arrives: …
“Your video will remain age-restricted. Your content was age-restricted because of our Community Guidelines. Content that sexualizes minors, depicts child abuse or other physical harm, or depicts minors participating in harmful or dangerous activities is not allowed on YouTube.”
Really? Scenes of what we did and who we were in the sixties and seventies have become harmful or dangerous? Call me crazy, but I think what we were doing was a moment of relative sanity in the middle of a stupid war and an immense overreaction to people calling attention to it.
Enough grumping. If you are reading this, you’re probably old enough to watch a drunken Nick Ray stumbling around in his underwear or Ken Kesey enjoying a peaceful afternoon on his farm, so here’s where you can find all the danger: https://www.youtube.com/@andyromanoff1/playlists, then click on The Times They Are a-Changing
That’s all, I’m busy. I’ve got to get ready for the May 1st demonstrations, and children don’t look at these old films anyway, but are we ever going to grow up and say, “Looks like people to me.” Later Everybody.
