Up and Down: Victories and Struggles in the Course of Life Kindle Edition
He was a small-town boy who burst onto the international golf scene with a dramatic hook shot from deep in the woods to win the Masters— before the game he loved almost killed him. Opening up about the toll that chasing and achieving his dream of being a champion golfer took on his mental health, Bubba Watson shares his powerful story of the breaking point that gave him clarity.
Bubba Watson is known as the big-hitting left-handed golfer who plays with the pink driver—the small-town kid who grew up as a child golf prodigy before going on to win two Masters Tournaments, competing in the Olympics, and rising to be the number two golfer in the world.
But every dream comes with a price. Feeling that he was never good enough, Bubba began to let the constant criticism from fans and commentators haunt his thoughts. Success in the game he loved was killing him.
In Up and Down, Bubba opens up about his debilitating anxiety attacks, the death of his father and namesake, adopting his children, and how reaching a breaking point professionally and personally drew him closer to his family and God.
Golf is what Bubba Watson does, but it is not who he is. Through his story, you'll learn how Bubba:
- Overcame his anxiety and feelings of inadequacy
- Found his true identity not in the standards of the world, but in the God who already knows he is enough
- Learned to trust God with his gifts, family, and biggest dreams
- Became the husband, father, friend, and mentor he was called to be
Life, like golf, is filled with ups and downs. Up and Down is the inspiring story of an imperfect man striving to become the best person he can be—wherever the course may take him.

About the Author
Growing up in the small-town of Bagdad outside of Pensacola, Florida, Bubba Watson dreamed of being a champion golfer, and he has more than fulfilled that dream with twelve wins on the PGA Tour, including two Masters. A man of faith, he loves spending time with his wife, Angie, their two children, Caleb and Dakota, and his friends. Bubba is also a big supporter of his hometown, where he is part owner of the AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball team, a car dealership, a candy store, and a driving range. But his family’s support of the Studer Family Children’s Hospital and the opportunity to help improve the community provides him the greatest satisfaction.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA longtime fan, who doesn't read a lot of sports reports or social media on sports figures. This book gave me a better understanding of someone I've enjoyed watching throughout the years playing a game I'm very passionate about. Can't wait to see Bubba as the US Ryder Cup captain!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2021Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseGreat and easy read for any sports fan and non sports fan who want a peek into Bubba Watson’s real life off course. I’ve always been a fan of Bubba and now I like him even more. Kuddos to him for speaking out about mental health we need to see this more in the sports industry.

The way Watson tells his story provides a good inside look at his focus and the support he received to be successful on the PGA. Well rounded details of the support from parents, wife, friends, and business associates, supporting his drive to become a golf professional.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2022Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseLoved this book by an incredible young man. Not only a world class golfer but a true class act. Never had a golf lesson but began the game from bottom up. Every father should buy this book for a teenage son, especially those that enjoy game of golf. Not only this but a two time Masters winner. Well written.

Believe. I now like
Bubba more than I already did.. PATE
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2021Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseLoved story of his wife and family. Very apologetic to his caddie Teddy as well. He really always wants to do RIGHT and right his wrongs. Admittedly was cocky and bratty. However humbled by PGA Tour. Extremely grateful & loyal to his family, God, friends and equipment company, PING.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2021Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI rarely provide reviews on products or books but this was disappointing. I had high expectations that we'd get insight into both Bubba's ups and his downs. Unfortunately it lacked any depth on his downs other than saying lots of tour players didn't like his on course behavior and as a result, didn't like him. His wife and caddie were instrumental in bringing attention to this reality. It also didn't go into any depth related to mental health issues other than he lost a lot of weight at one point. I couldn't tell why that occurred or specifically how he rectified it.
Most of the book focused on the ups. His story about not making the 2016 Ryder Cup was supposed to leave the reader thinking he was being selfless asking to be an assistant captain where, as told, focused on how happy he was thinking others now viewed him differently for it. I was left feeling the entire book was trying to get me to think he really is a good guy. After reading the book I heard he and his caddie split. I expect the caddie couldn't take him anymore.
To make matters worse, the book also was poorly written, repeating things in multiple chapters.
Save your money.
