Over de auteur

Helen Smith, PhD, is a psychologist specializing in forensic issues and men's issues in Knoxville, Tennessee. She holds a PhD from the University of Tennessee and master's degrees from The New School for Social Research and the City University of New York. She has written The Scarred Heart: Understanding and Identifying Kids Who Kill and was writer and executive producer of Six, a documentary about the murder of a family in Tennessee by teens from Kentucky. She has worked with men (as well as women and children) in her private practice for more than twenty years. She has been on numerous television and radio shows including Montel Williams and has appeared on E! Entertainment, Fox News, Discovery, Women's Entertainment, Biography, Oxygen and The Learning Channel. Smith has written for numerous publications including the Los Angeles Times, The Christian Science Monitor and The Cleveland Plain Dealer. She occasionally hosts a show at PJTV focusing on men's issues, psychology and politics. She has written on her blog at drhelen.blogspot.com since 2005 on men's rights, men's issues and psychology and is now a columnist and blogger at PJ Media. Her blog is at pjmedia.com/drhelen.

    Fantastic to see a female understand these issues so well. All of the issues raised in this book are not only still relevant but have worsened. Unfortunately the call to action failed and legislation and attitudes make any interaction with half the population hazardous.

    This book is an essential read for every man and I will be gifting a copy to every eligible bachelor I know.

    In Men on Strike, Dr Helen Smith manages to thoughtfully document the fall-out from 40 years of anti-male legislation in the family courts.

    Although long over due it's release coincides with a UK's Office for National Statistics report, showing that the number fatherless families has now risen to around 1 in 4 of all families in the UK today.

    As men are waking up to just how much they are being duped, more and more of them are choosing to just go their own way and enjoy the freedoms of a single man`s life. These trends are obviously unsustainable and if allowed to continue unchecked, we may very well be witnessing the end of the two parent family altogether.

    However, because men are not burdened with the omni-ticking sound of a female biological clock and their urge to have children is far less of an imperative(than it is for most women) they are actually far better equipped to adjust to this new marital landscape.

    In fact, because it is quite conceivable that women actually end up the biggest losers in this, it would probably be wise for them to read this book also.

    Ce livre, écrit par une universitaire américaine, n'est pas un ouvrage académique. Au contraire, il s'appuie sur de très nombreux témoignages d'hommes âgés de 20 à 50 ans environ pour décrire une tendance relativement récente et qui fait l'objet d'un intérêt croissant de la part des médias.

    En effet, nombreux sont les sociologues et autres "experts" qui s'inquiètent du retrait des hommes de la vie civile de manière générale, les hommes étant critiqués pour ne plus "prendre leurs responsabilités". Cette tendance est symbolisée par le mouvement des MEGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way).

    Ce qui distingue cet ouvrage du reste, c'est l'approche entreprise par l'auteur. Cette dernière est consciente de l'importance du rôle des hommes dans la société et aborde cette thématique sans préjugés négatifs à leur égard. Elle ne cherche pas à moraliser, elle s'efforce de comprendre les raisons pour lesquelles les hommes ne s'investissent plus tellement dans leur carrière, ne s'intéressent plus au mariage, ne veulent plus avoir d'enfants...

    Plus elle approfondit ses recherches, plus elle prend conscience que, contrairement à ce qui est généralement véhiculé, les hommes se "retirent" de la société pour des raisons tout à fait rationnelles, qu'elle décrit au cours de plusieurs chapitres thématiques. L'on découvre avec stupéfaction et parfois horreur de nombreuses contraintes légales et sociétales qui permettent d'expliquer pourquoi les hommes se "mettent en grève".

    Ce livre est un appel à détresse, une alerte lancée à la société afin que cette dernière, et notamment les femmes de manière générale, se rendent compte du désastre causé par la seconde vague du féminisme (la première vague, recherchant simplement l'égalité entre les sexes, étant tout à fait justifiée), qui cherche à "émasculer" la masculinité.

    Bref, un livre salvateur.

    ps: pour le lecteur francophone, il existe d'importantes différences de règlementations entre les Etats-Unis et la France en la matière, gardez cela en tête à la lecture de l'ouvrage.

    Um ser humano consciente procura entender a importância do masculino e do feminino na sociedade. Entende que um complementa o outro. O que esse livro faz é equilibrar a balança, já que hoje em dia há toda uma narrativa que demoniza homens e endeusa mulheres, através do feminismo e outras ideologias de esquerda. O ideal é observar por cima e jogar uma luz sobre o tema.
