Product Description
Dome Leak Sensor Dome now officially Works with Wink! The Dome Home Automation Wireless Z-Wave Leak Sensor with Remote Probe helps you cap leaks before they turn into gushes, so you can keep a lid on the amount of money you spend on water-related repairs. Use this battery-powered, smart-home leak detector anywhere you need to monitor water lines for potential problems. Its low-profile design allows you to hook it up underneath appliances and a 4-foot range remote sensor probe makes it easier to monitor water activity in hard-to-reach places like sump pumps. Toilets, refrigerators, water heaters, and other appliances and fixtures that require water lines can generate costly bills from ongoing small leaks and unexpected major breaks. The Dome Home Automation Water Resistant Leak Sensor keeps you up to date on the health of water lines leading in and out of these systems, and it sends you customized alerts via your connected Z-Wave Hub. Shut off main valves and take action when required. Use with most any Z-Wave Hub including: Wink, Home Seer, SmartThings, Vera, Harmony and more. For indoor use only.

Simple, well-designed device
Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2020I needed this to alarm on a leak in my attic AC System. The design is nice, and it tested very well. It easily paired with my Hubitat Elevation Home Hub, and it has an audible alarm in addition to communicating with the Hub. I really liked the design of the remote probe, and I used that so the main electronics which have the buzzer in it could be placed closer to the hatch of the attic. I had $10K worth of damage last year because my weekly renters ran the AC so cold that it generated moisture outside the regular drip pan. I added a new pan, and this sensor, which will give the occupants and audible alarm, and also will (using a program on the hub) send me an email any time water is detected. It claims to have a 3-year battery life. I will update if that turns out not to be correct. For me, it will be good as long as its at least 18 months.

Works Great with Wink 2 and Leaksmart valve
Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2019I installed a Leaksmart whole house shutoff valve on two homes over a year ago and the leaksmat brand of sensors work ok if close by the Leaksmart hub. If you have a larger home you'll need the range extender and being a zigbee product you have to remove the batteries and put back to factory settings and reestablish communications so it picks up the extender and not the hub. I have three sensors that continue to be disconnected and will not reconnect using Wink so I have to reset to factory settings. I've waited over two weeks at times just to see if it would reconnect. I installed the Dome sensor Z-Wave at the furthest point 7 days ago and it has yet to disconnect so I am purchasing a couple more.
Dome sensor was easy to connect and set up a robot to turn off valve. I like the fact that I can just use the Z-wave network rediscovery rather than having to reset sensors from Leaksmart.
Leaksmart sensors using the Leaksmart app work great if you use their extender and I do like that it shows the signal strenth where if you use the Wink app it does not.

Will Buy More
Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2017There are pros and a few minor cons to this device, but the bottom line is it's a good working unit and I will buy more in the future. I have Smartthings and it absolutely requires the use of a device handler. You can download it easily from the seller's website. The first time I paired it, the device handler did not get associated with it and it recognized it as a generic sensor. It did not work at all in this mode. I had to factory reset the leak sensor (hold internal button for 10 seconds) and re-pair it (tap internal button 3 times) and it was recognized properly.
It is very basic in design and function. There are three metal feet on the bottom of the unit. When two or more get wet, it sends a zwave signal and makes an audible tone. The tone only goes until the water is no longer present. There is a remote probe that goes with it, so you can mount the main unit on a wall and have the remote sensor go to in an environment where it can be fully submerged and not break.
I bought this sensor with the plan of also getting a unit that will shut off my water main if a water leak is detected. I am also planning on getting more sensors to put around toilets. This one got placed behind my washing machine. It is small enough it fit easily. I attached some pictures to this review so you can see the size and placement of the leak sensor.
Pros:
Compact size and a remote sensor make it usable in a variety of places/situations.
It was very easy to pair and also easy to factory reset. The indicator light makes it easy to see it's doing what it should be!
Works great with Smartthings when you use the device handler. This was my first leak monitor and it integrates in to the security monitor well!
There are three feet on the bottom, but it will activate as long as at least two are touching a pool of water.
Cons:
It uses a CR2 battery (personal preference is CR123 as many of my other devices use that size)
It feels flimsy/cheap, although it works perfectly
Has a remote probe that only works when the main unit is on a cradle. The cradle covers up the sensors on the main unit and the probe plugs in to the cradle. I thought both could be used simultaneously for broader coverage but this is not the case. They should have designed it that way,
I think it should be more like $40, not $50.

Work perfectly and Battery life is incredible.
Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2019Synced up very easily to my Vera Edge. Works great. I'm using them in two of our properties.
This winter we had a pipe break. Nobody was home when it happened and the water ran for over 12 hours. Did I mention that this unit was on the fourth floor.
After the aftermath and the clean up and the rebuild of our relationships with our neighbors, I thought I better invest in something that could prevent this from ever happening again. I already had our Vera Smart home system, so I added three Dome water detection sensors and the Dome water cutoff actuator. This system work great.
If I would have invested in this equipment long a go, I could have saved lots of money and frustration in repairs, but I did get to meet my neighbors.

Don't expect support
Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2022Once you get them set up, they work well with SmartThings. No complaints with performance of the leak sensors.
However, if they don't work well, don't expect any support. Opened up a ticket with them for a problem with their siren, they sent me a link to one of the FAQ pages that had nothing to do with my problem, and then never replied again. I contacted them again multiple times trying to follow up, but they never again replied, so their product went in the garbage.
So to recap, if you want no support, this product is good. If you want to buy from a company that stands behind their products, look elsewhere.

Perfect water sensor! Even better when paired with a valve shutoff!
Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2020Currently we have 12 of these sensors throughout our 2 story home. Thus far, over a 3 year span, they've saved us from two toilet clog/overflows and one dishwasher backup. In all 3 instances, the sensors detected the water and triggered the automation to turn off the water valve to the house.
The batteries easily last 2-3 years, but IMHO I believe you're better off replacing them every 2 years to be on the same side. I go through the house twice a year testing the sensors just to ensure they are working; I prefer to do it the same weekend we change the clocks in the Spring and Fall.
We have the sensors spread through the house from the bottom floor to the top of the 3rd floor. Note however we have two Nexia bridges in our home that are part of the thermostats for our heatpumps. I would be concerned about ensuring coverage for all 12 sensors if we only have 1 access point for the sensors.
Seriously, this is a wise investment. If you've ever had a toilet to overflow, a dishwasher to overflow, a kitchen sink to clog, a hot water heater to blow a safety valve, etc, etc, etc.... You need sensors like these combined with water valves.

Easy to install and works perfectly!
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2018I had previously installed a Dome Water Shutoff Valve Dome Home Automation Water Shut-Off Valve - For Pipes up to 1 1/2", White (DMWV1) and device handler which worked perfectly. I had no issues installing this leak sensor on SmartThings and setting it up to close the valve when it sensed water. It worked perfectly as it sounded an audible alarm and notified SmartThings of the "leak". SmartThings then sent my phone a notification and closed the valve. I placed it next to my water heater and intend to purchase more of these sensors.

Unreliable - failed to detect and report water at the crucial time
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2019the leak detects worked for few months, but a year or so later, despite showing to be online and alive, it failed to detect and report water at the crucial time. Support team was courteous but did not follow up on the case. Not likely to ask for/replace to same one, can not trust it.

Kevin B.4 out of 5 starsGood unit, flexible options!
Reviewed in Canada on March 7, 2018Background info: my home automation is an Insteon system with a Universal Devices ISY-994i controller. I wanted to add an automated main water shutoff valve (I settled on an Econet motorized controller) so the system would shut off the house's water if any leak is detected.
I have a couple of the Insteon water sensors which work fine, but needed another for my dishwasher and decided to try this Dome version.
Pros:
- a little cheaper than the Insteon sensors.
- comes with a cradle and remote probe, so I can mount the unit inside a lower cabinet for ease of access (i.e. changing battery when the time comes) and run the sensor down under the dishwasher. See later in this review for how to hack this probe to allow monitoring two locations.
- works with my ISY-994i (note that I did have to buy the ISY-994i's optional Z-Wave card as mine didn't have it to begin with).
Con:
- when it detects a leak it also sounds a continuous beep, which I understand could be a selling point, but not for me. My ISY alerts me with an email and text message, and then opens the main water valve, so an audible alert isn't needed, and will only drain the battery. I pulled the alarm buzzer off of the circuit board to fix this. I also pulled off the indicator LED, as it stays on as well...
Edit: after testing it out a bit, I found that the remote probe is basically a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug that leads to three copper conductors at the sensor end. The water leak simply completes the circuit, which the main unit detects as a leak. I discovered that if any two of the three conductors are shorted, the alarm is raised. So I built my own remote sensor from an old headphone lead - I stripped off the ear buds and soldered extensions, so I basically 'split' the three conductor sensor into two 2-conductor sensors. I ran one under my dishwasher and the other under my sink. Voila! One leak sensor now monitors two locations!

Alexei3 out of 5 starsDidn't work with GE Simon XTi panel despite supporting Z-Wave
Reviewed in Canada on November 29, 2017Connected to my GE Simon XTi panel, which supports Z-Wave but then didn't actually do anything (didn't trigger any alarm). May be a good choice for a dedicated Z-Wave Plus hub but not for alarm systems like mine.

Bass5 out of 5 starsIntegrated flood notifications
Reviewed in Canada on January 26, 2019I am using the Dome Leak Sensor with the Dome chime along with the Wink hub to get notified if ever water levels rise in my sump pit. The detector seems to work well when tested. Hopefully, I will never need to confirm it works, but I feel better knowing I will get a notification in advance if ever the basement sump pit starts filling with water. This will allow me to confirm that my sump pump works before water starts filling the basement...

Jim J.5 out of 5 starsAwesome water detector
Reviewed in Canada on November 25, 2019Bought this sensor, the Samsung Smarthub and the Dome water valve closer as a package. They work exceptional together. If the water sensor detects water on the floor, the main water valve closes and I get an alert on my phone saying water has been detected and that the main water valve is closed. Great setup for preventing a flood in your house while you are away.
