Ohhhhh I haven't made icons in a loooonnggg time. I thought it might be nice to icon a series I haven't done before (for once :p), and I watched Hunter x Hunter a few months ago and I loved it. Killua is basically my favourite (he's soooo adorable omg). Anyways, analagous colours was right up my ally, but complementary colours was pretty hard for me. I'm very partial to certain colour combinations, hehe.

Oh it's been awhile since I made icons. I think you can tell haha :p Anyways, I decided to do two icons for each style to challenge myself (or else everything would've been light textures galore!)

9-10: Bold Colours and Contrast - I'd say my colouring style is pretty bold (in my mind vibrant = bold). I also love contrast in my icons, but I don't think of my style as a summation of these two things?? In any case for these icons I really wanted to amplify the shadows/blacks to get intense colours and contrasts.
11-12: Clean and Minimalistic - My icons aren't usually complex but they're not usually clean and minimalistic?? Idk I'm sort of a texture whore so these icons are as simple as you're gonna get for me, heh.
13-14: Close-up and Obscure Crops - I like close up crops because I can get away with not extracting anything, haha.
15-16: Experimental - For 15, there's blending. And even though purple and yellow are complimentary colours I don't usually pair them together so this colour combination is experimental for me. For 16, I was playing around with textures and this icon just came together. Idk if it's obvious but that's a world map, which falls in line with Rider being the king of conquerors.
17-18: Muted and Vintage
19-20: Black and White - why did I make so many Kirei icons? That shitty mapo tofu priest isn't even my favourite character.

I had this brilliant (haha, original huh :p) idea to make dark icons of the villians and light icons of the sailor senshi. Except for the lack of decent images/caps of villians so that plan fell apart quickly... Oops. Anyways, somehow the dark icons turned better in my opinion.

20inspirations Round 22: Mood Ring

1. Red - lust. Gilgamesh is arrogant and insane, but UNF.
2. Red - anger
3. Red - blood. The text is sort of kind of decoration. I know it's not really that easy to read but it says 'the price we pay' and I like how it looks so it stayed :p
4. Red - also blood. Like 3, I wanted to provide contrast between the bright blood and paleness/whiteness of the rest of the icon.
5. Yellow - hope/optimism
6. Yellow - bright yellow to represent Rider's upbeat personality.
7. Green - rich and deep greens to show Waver's personal growth. He is the one character who really grew on me throughout the series because he starts out as an immature brat and I really disliked him initially.
8. Green - sickly green to show Kariya's envy and jealousy. :(
9. Blue - sadness/loyalty.
10. Blue - Same as 9. Both Lancer and Saber adhere strictly to duty and honor.
11. Blue - sadness. It's Kiritsugu....
12. Blue/Yellow - I wanted to show the intensity of emotions during this scene so I used really bright and vibrant colours.
13. Blue/purple - A tad of purple for royalty and some blue again for sadness. Because Saber regrets her reign as King Arthur it brings her a lot of grief/sadness.
14. Purple - dignity for Tokiomi.
15. Purple - royalty for the three kings in the series.
16. Brown - serious/neutral. Kirei before his corruption. This slightly modified line from the Lord's prayer is a nice touch I think, given that he ultimately does give into his dark desires.
17. White - innocence/purity
18. Black/White - contrast and power
19. Black - Grief/empty. Kayneth is a ... scumbag but the way his part in the war ended just hurts me :(
20. Black - empty. And back is crossed out because Kiritsugu never really makes it back from hell... :(

20inspirations Round 21: 2012

So let me start off this post by saying these are a few of the things I discovered and enjoyed in 2012, and by no means is this list inclusive! And yes, I only just watched the original Star Wars trilogy this year (I know... I am actually the WORST -______-) but I REALLY enjoyed it and hence the icons, which are inspired by petite_tomate. We also have From Up On Poppy Hill, the most recent Studio Ghibli film so what's not to like? Fate/Stay Night, which I watched in a span of ~3 days and believe me when I say that's fast for me when I watch anime because I have a horrible habit of watching a few episodes of a series and then abandoning it. And of course, The Hobbit! :)

25 assorted icons for 20inspirations round 10: Epitome

Epitome for 20inspirations

I'm so excited that 20inspirations is back! I chose this round because I thought it would be really challenging and I had a lot of fun with it. I included explanations so be aware that there are some spoilers, but most of these series have already been out for years, but just as a forewarning.

01. 5 Centimeters Per Second | Word - Reunite. The end scene where Takaki and Akari cross paths.
02. 5 Centimeters Per Second | General. I wanted to show the importance of cherry blossoms to this story, by including one of the beginning scenes where Takaki and Akari are children and the end scene where they cross paths under the cherry blossoms.
03. ARIA | General. This is a slice of life story about 3 girls training to become full-fledged undines in Neo-Venezia.
04. Code Geass | Word - Angst. This series is rife with it. This scene is meant to show a major turning point in the series and the fallouts because of it.
05. Death Note | General.

06. Futurama | General. Text is a bit cliche, but this sitcom is about a regular boy from the year 2000 who 'accidentally' ends up in the year 3000. In the background is a silhouette of New York, the setting of Futurama (or I guess in this case New New York).
07. Futurama | Icon by letsey_x. Leela describes Bender. He even has a meme with a similar theme.
08. Futurama | General. Professor Hubert Farnsworth the absent minded scientist. "Wha?" also is one of his catchphrases.
09. Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne | General. The two sides of her identity as Maron and Phantom Thief Jeanne.
10. Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne | General. I tried to show symbols important to her identity as Phantom Thief Jeanne mainly through the chessboard background and the knight chess piece that she uses in her mission.

11. Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne | General. This series has a lot of religious motifs, so I thought this image was perfect to show that.
12. Sailor Moon | Icon by mm3butterfly. Sailor Pluto is the Solider of Time and Space.
13. Sailor Moon | Word - Death. Sailor Saturn's power relate to death and rebirth.
14. The Simpsons | General. Two of Homer's favourite things: donuts and Duff beer.
15. The Simpsons | General. Maggie Makes Three is probably the saddest episode in the series and offers a really touching view into fatherhood. The end scene really shows that despite Homer being a stupid and lazy oaf, he really does love his family.

16. Vampire Knight | General. I like this picture because we see how soft Zero can be when he's around Yuuki.
17. Vampire Knight | Word - Raw
18. X/1999 | General. I wanted to show that fate of the Earth strongly depends on Kamui, depending on his desire to save it as it currently is or to destroy it to create a pure Earth.
19. X/1999 | General. Duality is a major theme is X. Kamui and Fuuma and destined to fight on opposing sides in the war to determine the fate of the Earth.
20. X/1999 | Word - Passage. Kotori's passage from life to death. I like to think she found peace despite her brutal death.

X/1999 for inspired20in20

Good and Evil for inspired20in20

I went with X/1999 for this round because it seemed like a really good choice with plenty of options (and because it feels like I haven't iconned animanga in forever). For this claim I associated the Dragons of Heaven and their supporters as Good (icons 1-8) and the Dragons of Earth as Evil (icons 9-15). A bit of an oversimplification, because hey, it's CLAMP so not everything is as it appears to be on the surface. And for the remaining 5 icons, I used Good vs. Evil as an inspiration. These icons feature duality by juxtaposing characters who are counters/foils of each other (i.e. Fuuma and Kamui), except for the last icon, which features only Kamui, whose name has two meanings: 1) the one who represents the majesty of God and 2) the one who hunts the majesty of God. If you're interested in reading more, Wikipedia has a short summary. Lastly, for those of you following my tumblr you've probably seen my X/1999 tarot card set, which was inspired by this round!
