Your “mistake” sink is the sink I wanted but the fabricator wouldn’t deliver… it’s called a reveal. The reason I wanted it is because it is the most sanitary, which is why you have a sink in the first place. You can’t see what’s lurking under that overhang, and how often does anyone even think to clean under it…but you can see and clean everything with a reveal. You lucky duck.

In a classic 11th-hour plot twist, I decided I didn’t want the washer/dryer my designer had specified (chosen by her male assistant — enough said). I swapped them out about two months before move-in for the latest Maytag pair which, of course, meant the countertop spanning over them is now precisely one inch less deep than it should be. This tiny detail haunts me every time I do a load of laundry. Does it matter? No. But also yes. But also… no. But oh, absolutely yes.

If there were a game show where you could win big by spotting microscopic imperfections in a house, I’d be one of those contestants who just keeps showing up week after week, like the Jeopardy champions who never seem to lose.
