Dear Festividder 2018

Dear Festividder (and anyone else who might be browsing this letter for ideas) -

Thank you so much for making me a vid. This is my first time participating in Festivids and I am really excited. I hope you find something in here that sparks an idea! Here are the fandoms I requested, why I like them, and prompts in case you need some inspiration - although if you've got another idea, please don't feel bound by my suggestions!

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

Sales pitch: Gorgeous 1920s costumes and interior design, sharp cheekbones, a woman who does what she wants, a woman who's inspired by that, men who support these women, a lady doctor in waistcoats, and murder.

Caveats: None that I can think of. There's murder?

Vid ideas:

- Phryne and Jack's amazing flirting and clothes
- Anything Dot-related, like her friendship with Phryne or her unfolding emotional journey
- Women Phryne has helped, or people she has gathered around herself
- Doctor Mac being awesome and well-dressed

Things I am less into: a tight focus on Hugh and/or Jack - although Phryne through Jack's eyes or Dot through Hugh's would be great!

Killing Eve (TV 2018)

Sales pitch: First and foremost, Sandra Oh! Secondly, this show is commonly pitched in fandom as "Hannibal but female," and there's a lot of truth to that: it's about an obsessive game of cat and mouse between an assassin who likes nice clothes and an MI5 officer. There are also nice clothes and it's suprisingly funny in really unexpected places.

Caveats: It's pretty violent and there's a bit of "bury your gays" with a background character.

Vid ideas:

- Something really focused on how amazing Sandra Oh's face is and how much Villanelle wants to bone her
- Villanelle being gleefully psychopathic and wearing nice clothes
- The relationship between Eve and her husband
- If you want to really lean into the Hannibal-ness of the show and come up with a way to really bring the similarities out through editing (maybe even incorporating clips from Hannibal??? just a thought), I think that could be really awesome (but super ambitious)

Things I am less into: I can't really think of any! I really love this show and I think exploring any of its aspects would make for a great vid.

How to Steal a Million (1966)

Sales pitch: This is an undeservedly obscure heist movie about art forgeries featuring Audrey Hepburn in spectacular mod outfits and Peter O'Toole's blue, blue eyes. The twist? Audrey Hepburn has to steal a statue from a museum to save her father from being exposed as a forger.

Caveats: None, it's amazing.

Vid ideas:

- Audrey Hepburn being incredibly stylish (you may have noticed a theme here)
- Her adorable relationship with her dad
- Her relationship with Peter O'Toole's character

Things I am less into: None, anything would be great!

Ocean's 8 (2018)

Sales pitch: An excellent heist, great clothes, and a lot of actresses having an amazing time.

Caveats: None

Vid ideas:

- A shippy Debbie/Lou vid
- A vid about how hot Lou is
- A vid focusing on one or more of the characters who aren't Lou and Debbie and really exploring them could be fun!
- A really vicious and funny tale of Debbie's revenge on Claude
- James Corden's character's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

Things I am less into: I'm not super familiar with Ocean's 11-13, so a vid that heavily draws on stuff from those movies is probably going to go over my head.

Property Brothers RPF

Sales pitch: Okay, so there's Jonathan, who knows how to build houses, and there's Drew, who knows how to sell houses (my friends and I refer to him as the useless one). They are identical twins. They also have an older brother, JD, who looks exactly like Adam Lambert and used to be an Adam Lambert impersonator, because why wouldn't you, if you looked exactly like Adam Lambert. Drew and Jonathan have a show called The Property Brothers, where Drew would sell people a fixer-upper, and Jonathan would shamelessly flirt with the clients while fixing the fixer-upper up. They also did a show together where they renovated their family home and did a lot of absurd things to it like putting in a water slide and forgetting to get a permit for it, while JD sort of stood off to the side and shook his head. They have a bunch of other shows too, but these are the highlights.

Caveats: They are honestly ridiculous.

Vid ideas:
- Jonathan flirts his way through the show
- Their goofy faces
- They are brothers and that's fantastic
- Just generally anything that demonstrates how weird they are

Things I am less into: nothing, it's all good.

Broadchurch

Sales pitch: This is a serious but extremely addictive show about police detectives Olivia Colman (Ellie) and David Tennant (Alec) investigating the death of a child in a gorgeous, tiny English town, as is proper. Their partnership is my favorite thing about this show - it's a great dynamic and a very slow development of their friendship. The secondary characters are very interesting as well - in particular, Jodie Whittaker (aka the new Doctor) is really captivating as the mother who is trying to cope with her grief. There are lots of interesting side plots as well. The first season is definitely watchable as a stand-alone, season 2 picks up where season 1 left off, and season 3 is an entirely different plot, although the characters still deal with the ramifications of the murder.

Caveats: Child death and implied child sexual abuse in seasons 1-2. Season 3 is entirely focused on investigating a serial rapist, with all that entails. Parents coming to terms with their child's death in all three seasons.

Vid ideas:

- Anything about Ellie and Alec's friendship
- Scenery porn
- That extremely short side plot with the lesbians, although they have very little time on screen together so that may not be possible
- Something about the effect of Danny's death on various people in Broadchurch
- The various kinds of child-parent relationships in the show

Things I am less into: I would prefer you avoid focusing very narrowly on the rape plot from Season 3 - although I really don't mind it if you use it to complement some other story.

Other general preferences:

I don't have any physical triggers, so feel free to cut as quickly as you like! I like a vid that moves quickly. I also don't mind whichever way you might choose to handle the more violent of my requested sources - feel free to ignore the violent parts or use them in your vid! I also really like comedy, so if you like a good visual joke too, please don't hold yourself back on my account! I'm a little wary of dialogue-heavy vids, but willing to be convinced! As far as music goes, I am really flexible and open to different genres and nontraditional types of audio.

That's about it! Thank you very much in advance - I'm really looking forward to seeing whatever you make!
